“I recently visited Brookline Lunch in Cambridge on a busy Sunday afternoon for brunch and the place was packed--there was even a line outside! To expedite the wait, I strategically left my partner holding our spot while I popped over to a nearby ATM for cash, knowing this spot is cash-only. After about 30-40 minutes, we were finally seated inside. Despite the crowd, the restaurant exuded a cozy, homely atmosphere. I started off with a Turkish coffee, which was akin to a condensed espresso but had a wonderfully aromatic effect. It was not quite my cup of tea/coffee but I'm more of a latte fan. I could still appreciate the artistry of it and enjoyed trying something different. For my main course, I opted for the spicy sausage shakshuka, and I thought it was a unique take on the dish. Unlike any shakshuka I've had elsewhere, this version felt more like a hearty breakfast bowl, with fewer tomato sauce but packed with all my favorite ingredients--potatoes, sausage, poached eggs, garbanzo, carrots, and delicious naan bread. We read a review that recommended the chili oil sauce and requested some. It added a nice kick to the bowl. We also decided to order the Baklava pancakes to share. While undeniably delicious, they were extremely sweet, with the top pancake boasting generous toppings of pistachio and baklava. It's a unique dish and a must-have for those with a sweet tooth, but personally, I preferred the savory shakshuka. Overall, I highly recommend everyone to try Brookline Lunch at least once. I'll certainly be back, but perhaps when the lines aren't as daunting!“

“I would walk by Andala every single week and was always so curious as to what was inside and I finally did it! It says Coffee House but it also has tons of food options! The upper floor of the restaurant is definitely more cafe-like with people studying, seats by the windows, and the front where you can order coffee and desserts. Downstairs, on the other hand, offers more seating and cozy seats. Because it is a more casual place, the service is a bit inconsistent. We had multiple people come and take our order and didn't really have one server. For food, we ordered the Falafel Plate and Chicken Shawarma Sandwich. The falafel was extremely crispy and crunchy on the outside. The inside was a beautiful green color and full of flavor. The hummus and sauce it came with was also a delight. The star of the show was the shawarma sandwich. Every single bite had me verbally saying "Oh my gosh this is so good." The flavor profiles on the chicken were ridiculously delicious and the tumeric came out wonderfully without being overpowering. It was also so juicy that I could legitimately drink some out of the sandwich (even though yes, that's gross). The pita on the outside was the perfect level of chewy and the pickles in the sandwich cut each bite with acidity. I will definitely be back to try other dishes, or just for the Chicken Shawarma sandwich!“

“We usually order from a different Shawarma place in Somerville, but decided to give Sam's a try. The food was very good, and in good sized portions. They were good about following requests to leave things out of the wraps. Note that they do the style with fries on the side rather than in the wrap. My only complaint is that they list some, but not all, of the ingredients on their site. So if you have things you can't eat, I definitely recommend calling them to double check. My partner can't do creamy sauces, and they listed tahini sauce but not garlic sauce in the lamb/beef shawarma, which ended up being a problem. Not a huge thing, just annoying that they make it look like everything is listed when it isn't.“

I always get the chicken on rice. And I usually get the garlic sauce, the barbeque sauce or some mix of the two. It's consistently good, but your other options are tofu or gyro - but I've never had either. They have cans of soda (coke company!) and some house made beverages. Always a delicious meal. This is the only brick and mortar location I've ever been to - and though I liked the Cheeseboy that was here years before, Chicken and Rice guys is a step up. (The cheeseboy lives on in a rectangular garbage slot in the center trashcan console that is the exact shape of the cheeseboy sandwich boxes)My less favorite things.The Kiosk is right in front of the door, so if a customer is slow at the kiosk, folks queue up and block the door. “This is my favorite spot in high street place for lunch. I also get the chicken skewer bowl. It's super filling and flavorful. You get nice servings of rice and the condiments (hummus, red onion, etc). The best part is you get two chicken skewers. After eating this around noon I don't think about dinner until seven. Completely worth it and they always package it really nicely to go. Staff are always friendly and ask how your day is going even when they are busy. You always know it'll be fresh and made quickly. The space is clean and they have a couple seats to dine in but I have only done take out. We tried their chicken plate and kafta roll up. The chicken was juicy, and the plate came with rice, salad, hummus, and falafels. But my favorite was the kafta roll-up! It was refreshing, and it really hit the spot. Also- you need to try their falafels. I've never really liked falafels because the ones I've tried have always been so dry and bland, but I LOVE them here!! They're crispy outside and moist inside. Also, I'm not one to gravitate towards falafel and would prefer meat, but I really enjoyed the falafels and now order the falafels on the side.“
