Cute place, not as stylish as some city cafes, but that highlights that the focus is the food not the look. Every single food thing here is phenomenal. They're known for impeccable breads, though coincidentally the pastries are flawless, and the croissants aren't even too "bready". They rotate their selection-- we get about 12-14 items maybe once a month, and every single one is a knockout every time. Their coffee is also very good. The only improvement would be the service. I think there hasn't been a single time I've gone where they've actually gotten our large order right. Most recently, two bacon egg and cheeses were left off the receipt and just never made. This didn't detract from my rating though. The service is still kind and quick and the food quality more than makes up for it.

As an almost daily customer for over a year, AJs is one of the main reasons I'm glad I moved to Salem. The food, drinks, and bread quality are top-notch, and I've never had anything subpar--the consistency in their quality shows through their workers as much as their coffee. As an artist, I always look for cafes with ambiance, and this space, although small, offers many different spots to sit and work. I'm already looking forward to my next visit (likely tomorrow!)

After 2 days of a continental breakfast buffet at our hotel, my husband and I craved something different. Luckily, A&J was a short walk from our hotel (Hampton Inn) and it wasn't too crowded when we arrived. It smelled amazing when we walked in and the display of delicious treats were overwhelming! I wanted to order everything! We opted for the egg sandwiches and a bunch of pastries to take back home to Queens. The egg sandwiches were absolutely amazing, super fresh, and packed a lot of flavor using simple ingredients. The pastries were great as well and I couldn't resist eating a few during our 4 hour drive. I highly recommend this spot!

They charge a 14% admin fee on all orders to supplement wages? You're a business just raise your prices of your products like every other business does when your costs go up instead of doing something deceptive and sneaky.

Pros: -Loved that almost all staff members were wearing masks, especially during high respiratory virus season in the winter -Delicious, buttery croissants -Solid brownie (rich, but not too rich. Just enough to keep you wanting more) -Tasty lattes This place gets busy for good reason. Most pastries were sold out before noon on a Friday, but everything we tried was good, and the environment is bright and cheery.

This bread is the best! If you see it used on a menu, you know you're in for a treat! They also sell at Marblehead Farmers Market and is consistently the first booth sold out. Tucked away on a side street- A&J King is worth finding!

I've been a fan of this place for years - their scones are perfection - especially the ginger pear. They used to have a huge plate glass window where you could watch the bakers do their thing, that has now been turned into extra seating - which is a good thing, because they need it!
