Three of us had Sunday morning breakfast. The food was wonderful but it was a fairly simple meal with no elaborate recipes or complicated service considerations so I have given the whole experience four stars rather than five.

Very nice. The decor was great with the whole room hardwood paneled. Food was incredible. Fish doesn't get fresher or of better quality. I personally had the meatloaf - fantastic.

Service was exceptionally slow, inattentive and truly poorly done. While functions seem to go well the restaurant is done poorly. Do not waste your time. We were there almost 3 hours due to the timing and service points. The piano was awesome! it was a prix fix menu tonight due to Valentines and yet despite ordering dessert with entrees and again at the conclusion of our meal it never arrived. At three hours in we called it a day.

Their coffee is delicious. However, the food was truly awful. My poached eggs had partially cooked whites, and were not drained before they met the barely warmed, NOT toasted english muffin. And those parm crusted potatoes on the side? Fresh out of the walk in. They may have walked them through a warm kitchen but that was it. Such a disappointment. We enjoy the food in the tavern, but never again for breakfast.

This is my favorite breakfast anywhere. The omelets are better than any other place. My wife had eggs Benedict and it was out of this world. They have several versions of the Eggs Benedict. Sunday mornings they have live music that is always great.

We were celebrating a friend's birthday tonight. The food was great. Alison, our server was the best! She went out of her way along with the other staff to make it a special birthday. They even got us a wonderful birthday cake. You cannot beat the Tavern at the Hawthorne for friendly service, delicious food and winning ambiance!

The Tavern is a lovely, quiet room...soft music and a wood fire burning. Not an extensive menu, but the food is delicious. We were there for my husband's birthday and he loved the atmosphere. We highly recommend.

Our dinner at the Tavern at The Hawthorne Hotel was to celebrate our sons 19th birthday and it was the perfect choice to celebrate. Our waiter was attentive and kind, he did an excellent job. The menu isn't large, which we love, it has a nice variety and the drink menu is very nice. The food was excellent and we all enjoyed our choices. At the end of our dinner our waiter brought over a nice birthday ice cream with fruit as a special surprise. We highly recommend the Tavern, and we will be back soon!

The tavern is consistently good and better than many places in Salem. I highly recommend this restaurant as it has a nice warm, homey feeling like I am dining in an elegant wood-paneled library. Children are not running around. People are not hooting and the upholstery seems to absorb the noise. I have eaten there four times in the past six weeks, and it is in the top five restaurants out of 70 In Salem, to my perspective. The food is tasty, and is very nicely presented, with very large proportions; I always have to take portion of my food home. They have a smattering of all kinds of foods – mac & cheese, baked and fried haddock, salmon, steak, coconut-curry, burgers, sandwiches. They can alter a meal to your specifications. Even the desserts are huge: the ice cream sundae is three large scoops. The cocktails are tasty. There's often a fire in the fireplace they don't rush diners out- I reserved for 3 people for dinner at 6 PM on a Saturday night, and we departed at 9:25 – we were never encouraged to leave!

We've been here many times and enjoyed ourselves - we arrived an hour ahead of our reservation - it took 20 minutes to receive our drinks - my martini was terrible - the place was not at all busy!! Onion rings were burnt - we both ordered burgers - sides and toppings were all wrong!! My husband's burger was overcooked - service was slow and just awful!!Total waste of money!! Its such a shame that the Hawthorne has lowered their standards - will not be returning any time soon!!

We got seated near the real fireplace nice and cozy. We were waited on promptly for our drink order and we ordered are meals of meatloaf and Brie topped hamburger with truffle fries. Both great with generous portions. For dessert we shared a large portion of chocolate chip bread pudding , delicious! Very pleased overall!

Our waitress was very welcoming upbeat kind and attentive and the we loved the ambience of the restaraunt with its warm dim lighting wooden paneling walls and cabin vibe. Great experience and very family friendly we love the tavern at Hawthorne!

Local here, I came last night to watch a friend play, had a group of 6 of us. Accessible seating without reservations, but could have been iffy because their sister tavern (across the lobby) was closed for light reservations. Our server, Brandon, was swamped as the place was packed and I thought staffing was light. However, the bartender jumped in as needed. Drinks took an extremely long time to get to us, note we got our appetizer before any drinks. The app was the flatbread with ricotta and, nuts etc. It's delicious, a little too much on the cheese, but it's still decent. Hubs and I split the Chicken panini, and this was pretty good as well; it missed the mark slightly on the pesto pizazz you want, but overall, it was satisfying. Bonus here: if you have yet to try their cucumber salad, it is divine! Must get. Prices are super reasonable as well. One tip for Nathaniels: when you know you'll only have one room open, and it is popular, staff up! :) We will be back.

I ordered grilled cheese with spiced apples; my friend ordered the avacado BLT. We each had a glass of house Chardonnay. Our lunches and waiter were terrific. The Tavern was under construction ... opening soon, but the room we were in was lovely. Parking was easy. The Tavern is one of our favorite lunch spots!

We love to stop at Nathaniel's when we visit Salem. It's the classy, upscale part of our weekend. The last time we were there, we sat at the bar. Despite the fact that the bartender was so busy because there had been a wedding there the night before, we had exceptional service and she supplied us with some very delicious cocktails. We'll be back.
