New taqueria in Union Square with satisfying Mexican dishes.With so many Mexican spots in East Somerville, I initially perceived Picante as just another taqueria offering standard burritos, tacos, and quesadillas. I recently dropped by this place while walking my dog, and found the place empty during peak dinner hours. To my pleasant surprise, Picante offered special dishes like Carne Asada and Pollo Asado - both my go-to dishes at authentic Mexican restaurants.Since the restaurant looked like a standard counter-serve kitchen, I was surprised when they brought a huge slap of meat from downstairs and put it on the grill. It took quite a bit to get them prepared, but the wait was worth it. The chicken from Pollo Asado was exceptionally tender, complemented by a medley of fresh vegetable toppings. With the occasional coarse grain of salt, each bite was further enhanced by a delightful burst of salty umami. The Carne Asada, although slightly overcooked, remained a savory and enjoyable dish.With its subtle surprises and quality Mexican specialty plates, Picante is a place I would probably frequent more. The experience with their standard burritos and tacos may be a bit different, but these dishes are certainly worth trying.

Loved this Mexican place in Union Square - it was quiet on Saturday night when I went. Service was super quick & accommodating; they loaded my bowl up (as you can see)! They have a lot of flavorful sauces to spice up your meal. Worth checking out if you're in the area!

Overpriced, not very good.The price for my burrito was significantly more than the listed price. That's when I discovered that they apparently charge extra for such extravagances as corn and cheese on your burrito (there was a tiny transparent sign which no one will notice as they place your burrito in front of the toppings and let you state your preferences just like every other sub and burrito shop does without add on costs).So while eating my $13 generic tasting burrito with the bonus of old stale rice it occured to me to make this review.

The food here is absolutely amazing. So far I had the al pastor taco, the tongue taco and the fish taco - all of them delicious! Also I tried the birria torta which was amazing. I have no photos cause I inhaled my food but I’ll update my review later with pictures.

I was going to take a picture but my man already put it in the disposal. I ordered a chicken quesadilla regular 8.50 with guacamole. It was not worth eating. Cold and rolled. Not what I've expected. I was charged 12 dollars and change. One strike and you're out. Sorry to say. But I do wish them the best with their business but not for us.

I absolutely LOVE picante! They're birria tacos are some of the best I've ever had :) The upstairs is a bit crowded but they have a downstairs area that's absolutely GORGEOUS ?
