Was in my hometown with an hour to kill when hunger struck. Given the 21° temps, I felt like hot soup. Normally my favorite thing to eat here is the Sicilian Zazza, but today I ordered homemade escarole soup. Served with pizza dough bread sticks and a Mexican Coke, I was quickly filled with the warmth of Nonna. (if only my Nonna could cook). Morena's was sold a few years ago when the original owners retired, and I'm glad to see things have stayed the same. I was the only one eating in at 2:30pm, and the Spanish (not Italian) music made it all the more homey.

Ordered a pizza for takeout and picked it up myself.Would have been better if I had just tossed the food as soon as I carried it out the restaurant.Dough was so thin it became water logged. It was literally wet dough. The toppings were also water logged and did not set. It all slid off as soon as I put on my passenger seat. The cardboard was soaked as well and I had to clean my car.Vegetable toppings were under cooked. When trying to to pick up a slice, the dough was so soggy it was stuck to the card board. The slices that can be picked up could not hold the toppings, it just sloshed off. Nothing about it could be saved.I did not reach out to the restaurant. This pizza sacrilege cannot be repaired.

Food - I ordered linguine and clam sauce but what I got was Fettuccine Alfredo with a couple of garlicky clams on it. (See the pic) In addition, the pasta was undercooked (I know and don't mind al dente...but this was just plain underdone. So two stars were taken away.... My son ordered a sausage and mushroom pizza which was very good, though. Nice crispy crust snd fresh, flavorful toppings. The sauce was mild, but good. Service - Friendly and quick. Ambience - Even though it's a spot where you order from the counter, the interior is actually cute, with checkered table cloths under glass and the tables set up with vinegar, oil, grated cheese, and oregano in addition to salt and pepper shakers. The lighting is soft with chandeliers and I'd you're eating at the restaurant, they will bring you complimentary breadsticks and serve your food when it's done. Synopsis- I may come back for pizza or a sub, but I don't think I'll order pasta here again.

The Sicilian is heavy, clunky. The reason those that don’t like Sicilian pizza, don’t like it. Very saucy, but the sauce isn’t great…go try Leone’s in Somerville, order it well done. You’re welcome.Greek Salad left much to be desired. 2 pieces of tomato, 1 piece of cucumber, one Kalamata olive, a few sprinkles of feta.. no onion, no peppers, no pepperoncini, and some iceberg lettuce. Not much of a salad for those prices.I understand food costs are high. I have a restaurant too..

Fettuccine Alfredo was deliciously creamy with salty ham and savory onion to balance the flavors. The owner personally took my order and was extremely friendly when I picked up my food. I highly recommend.

I've been on the hunt for a really great Sicilian pizza especially Zazza. My nephew turned me on to Morena. Before I review my purchase, please know my family owned an Italian bakery for 54 years and we made pizza too, so I'm extremely fussy. I tried both the sausage peppers and onions, as well as their Zazza. Both were exceptional. Their Zazza is not shy on garlic, which we love. Their sausage peppers are onions Sicilian style was loaded with flavor and cooked to perfection. The crust had a good crispness to it and the peppers were so fresh and not overly soft like some can be. This is now our go to for a fabulous Sicilian pizza. And I'm going to say it, WAY better than Angelo's in Stoneham, which we find lack flavor. Happy eating!
