Nice little place in Winthrop. Atmosphere is great. Good selection of craft cocktails and craft beer.Food was hit and miss. The vinegar flavor to the pulled pork had a nice zing to it but was a bit overwhelming. The burnt ends were flavorful and tender but could have been crisper. The spicy slaw and mashed potatoes were spot on.I'd like to come back and try some other dishes, including the BBQ fries. And I disagree with other reviewers comparing Blackstrap to places in the Carolinas and Texas. I didn't expect the place to be internationally competitive. It's good for Boston and worth a visit.

Best BBQ in the greater Boston area. Love the atmosphere- the jukebox is on point every time I go. Service is great, everyone is friendly. Oh and best BBQ ever.

I have travelled all across America and have visited many BBQ restaurants, this is by far my favorite. Who knew that Boston has sensational BBQ? The food was just sensational, and was only outdone by the service. Melissa waited on us, and she was an absolute delight, making sure that all of our needs were taken care of. The restaurant was spotlessly clean. The owner was working while we were there and he came over and chatted. He’s charismatic and enthusiastic, and his passion for food is clear to see when you look around the restaurant. Don’t think twice about visiting this lovely place!

I sooo wanted to like this place not just because I love bbq but because every time I’m down the center the aroma from Blackstrap is intoxicating. We ordered Texas brisket and burnt ends. GROSS!!! The Alpo dog food company would appreciate the donation, I, however, did NOT. It was way too pricey for such low quality food. I so wished we had stayed home and made sirloin burgers which was my hubby’s original plan but I insisted on getting bbq. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone, sadly.

Awesome first experience at Blackstrap. Sat at the bar and was greeted by a super friendly staff. Good atmosphere and energy for a beer and some food.My brisket was a little dry so looking forward to trying it again before ruling it out. Their special, poutine, was actually amazing. Can confirm as a Canadian.

Best BBQ in town! (And probably the surrounding towns) my wife and I agree that the wings which are smoked and then fried I belive are the best wings world wide. They always have specials and they are always good. I don't believe I've had anything I haven't enjoyed. Food is always hot and quickly leaves the kitchen. Good beers, good cocktails and very healthy pours. Friendly staff and live music if you are into that. I have only one criticism for the place and that's that they need a rail for your feet at the bar. Other than that it's all around a great place to eat and drink. ( I do not give out 5 stars all around unless they really deserve it)

Went back after I heard it changed ownership again. Service was friendly and warm, food was much *much* better than before. It feels a lot closer to the 'old' Blackstrap that I remember and love! Huzzah! I'll keep this at a 4 for now because I'm still a little hesitant about whether or not the changes are consistent. I'll update again as events warrant!

After being seated, it took a while (10 minutes) for a server to take our order. Ended up ordering for apps the cauliflower bites and the onion strings which were both delicious. The Mrs. Ordered the wings and I ordered the 2 meat plate with brisket burnt ends and jerk chicken. The sides were mac&cheese and mashed potatoes. It came with a piece of cornbread. Aside from the brisket and the mashed potatoes, the Mac & cheese was cold and horrific. It was literally from a box. The worst part is it was cold. The jerk chicken was dry aside from the skin, which had a dry seasoning on it, it was unappetizing. The cornbread was cold and dry. The setting was pub bar style. Overall I'd come again, but I'd only order the brisket as my two meats as the burnt ends had flavor and was moist.

Juke-joint feel in a small down town. Dive bar feel, BBQ goodness, old t-shirt and jeans welcome. Parking can be a challenge if you are thinking of booking for a big group, double up.

What a great restaurant/bar in Winthrop! We tried dang near everything on the menu. Service was great. Beer selection great. The meat was a little on the dry side for me, but flavor was incredible. Plenty of sauces to choose from. Definitely will return next time I'm in Winthrop. I will say I'm a little bummed they don't carry crowlers from the brewery across the way, but I don't mind making 2 stops.
