Many over hyped restaurants disappoint in Annapolis and many fail. Soul excels in taste and casual comfort. Couples, friends, families.... it's just delicious. Memphis baby back ribs, Mac & cheese is a good choice.

Fried Pickles I love fried pickles! They fry pickle spears, which still kept the pickle crunchy which I loved. They also had fried olives?!?! I never had those until then and now I have a new addiction. The crunch of the breading was perfect. The Cajun aioli was the perfect combination. Perfect amount of spice that wasn't over powering. This was my favorite dish! Arugula Salad Nice thick pieces of pork belly. Needed more dressing on the arugula. The cornbread croutons set the salad off. Crispy yet soft at the same time. I am not a fan of overly hard croutons, these were perfect. Salmon Vieux Carre The Brussel sprouts were the star of this dish. Great char, perfect amount of hot honey and roasted perfectly. The salmon was over cooked and dry. Almost like they reheated it or something? I had to smother it in the Cajun aioli to make it palatable. The blackened seasoning was not as flavorful as I am accustomed to (I've been to Naw'lins and the blackened there was not replicated here at Soul). Southern BLT I did not eat this, not a tomato fan. I tried the bread though. I was impressed with the ciabatta. It was fresh and soft, with a nice crunch. Same Cajun aioli, so I imagine it was a tasty sandwich. My buddy said it was good. I would recommend Soul, even though it didn't get Feed My Soul Status.

I almost stopped myself from writing this review for fear of overcrowding this hidden gem. Tucked away in a quaint shopping plaza is definitely an element of surprise. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the bartender who always flashes a quick smile while managing to continue to serve his patrons, without missing a beat. If you asked to be seated, you'll pass is patrons and turn to your right for an intimate dining experience like no other. If you pause for a moment, you will even notice soulful ballads sung by all the jazz greats and Motown's own playing at the perfect toe-tapping decibel. Within minutes of being seated, you're typically greeted with a pleasant server but if you're lucky, the bar tender will pitch in and show up to your delight. No matter who calls on your table, you have to start off with the sweet tea. The subtle notes of peach transport me to the south every time. If you decide to order a real drink, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Now when it comes to starters, the fried green tomatoes and spicy chicken bites (sans the pickles) are my fave. From the first bite, you get the impression that someone's grandma is in the back frying up pure joy! But judging by the way the plate and the small bites, I would say that it's not grandma. It's probably her grandson or granddaughter. Definitely a young chef, but one that honors traditions and legacy. When you're ready for an entrée, the shrimp and grits are amazing. Let's take a commercial break to honor the grits. These aren't your average runny grits. These are stone ground Georgia grits, so if you don't like 'em thick go to a diner because this place has Soul. **Now back to our regularly scheduled programming** Seriously, if you up for the jambalaya, you will quickly realize that it's not anyone's grandma in the kitchen, someone's grandma was either raised in New Orleans or the chef has Creole DNA . If you don't believe me, order the beignets. Do yourself a favor, dine in, order takeout, bring a date, date yourself or do whatever it takes until you try everything on the menu. Like I said, this little gem has Soul and they never disappoint!

Definitely a unique spin on soul food, I lucked up finding this place when my regular Sunday breakfast spot was closed. I ate the shrimp and grits and it was pretty tasty. Nice people working and cooking in there.

Wanted to meet a couple friends somewhere between Baltimore and D.C. for brunch and stumbled across this place. Not only was it such a cute find, there was also a parking lot. If you try to brunch in either of the aforementioned cities, you know how exciting finding parking feels. You walk in immediately to the bar area which is where we stayed. While there, we could see some of the kitchen - clean and fast. We didn't order much food but what we did order, we enjoyed. My friends loved the candied bacon. And, although one of my sides was just scrambled eggs, this was the first place in a long time to get them just right. Went to find the restroom and realize there was some in and outdoor/patio seating in the rear. There was a constant flow of diners coming and going while we're there. The place is definitely small but mighty.

Wide choice of southern food, southern vibes feels in the atmosphere of this place. Southern flavor here as well. If you will order meatball soup, hot dixie chicken, flatbread and pizza would not disappoint you. Will recommend this place to my friends.

We visited Soul again last night. This was the second time we have been to Soul. The first time was in 2020 before the pandemic hit. Soul is comfort southern food. We had fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, crispy brussel sprouts and shoestring fries for appetizers. My significant other and friend enjoyed the Highway 61 cocktail. For our entree, I shared the gumbo with my significant other since we were both full from the appetizers. The gumbo was flavorful but I thought it was salty for me. The service from Vince, Misty, and another young lady was spectacular. It was a very busy Saturday night and the three of them made sure we were taken care of.

This is a small plates place. They have an outside eating area that's covered but it was closed today (weather) and the inside eating part was small but not terrible. Food comes out quickly. Went for Shrimp and Grits...was not impressed. Brussel sprouts, Cornbread and chicken bite things I highly recommend.

I really like this restaurant. The food and service is amazing. They will quickly get your order and make your food. The food is also delicious. The flatbreads are a necessity and I got shrimp and grits to eat which were very filling and very exquisite. Overall this is an amazing restaurant and a great place to bring anyone from children to distant relatives.

This was my first time at Soul. They only have dine in at the bar due to lack of help because of covid. Once they get more servers and kitchen help they'll open the dining room again. The bartender was friendly. He showed me different dishes, explained how everything was made in house. The food was good and presented well. The Mac and Cheese is to die for! Soul sounds like it would be amazing to go at summer time. The bartender said they have outdoor seating and music in the summer months. Next time I'm back in the Annapolis area I will stop in again.

The restaurant has a beautiful aesthetic. The food is delicious. After one bite of a beignet, first few words that came to mind was this-is-a-beignet. There are some other restaurants in Maryland that serve beignets, but Soul is the best thus far. The Jumbalya as well is the best in comparison to other restaurants that I've tried in Maryland too. The service was great and kind with accommodating! Once home, guest wanted to try my curbside/pick up order below after smelling it and everyone that I "allowed" to have a taste said "mmmm" after each bite. Too bad that I am just now finding this restaurant before moving. - beignets - Jumbalya - fried green tomatoes - white rice and red beans (Apologies - no pictures, the food was too delicious.)

I had real high hopes for this place based on reviews I read but, my food was terrible. The red beans and rice with the andouille sausage was bland. They need to remove the word andouille sausage because essentially I received only a couple of diced pieces which is what I was looking forward to. I don’t know why this place received high reviews or it must have been before the pandemic or a different chef. I wouldn’t recommend this one place. It would be just a waste of money

Had dinner this evening for the first time at Soul. Tall gentleman, who I believe was the chef quickly seated us. Our server was the best ever!!…she explained menu items, was very friendly and gracious. The food was very delicious and the price for value was great! The Hot Chicken appetizer was tender and perfectly seasoned. Everyone loved the fried tomatoes and hush puppies. We really enjoyed our entrees of gumbo, mac n cheese bar, and shrimp with grits. We ordered beignets for dessert which were toasty and the perfect way to end the meal! We will definitely return to this understated gem in Annapolis!

Been here a handful of times now. Not the kind of place I dash to but I do enjoy the food usually. Things I have had and would get again: Pepperoni & arugula flatbread, cornbread, hush puppies, meatball sub, fried chicken sliders Things I probably wouldn't get again: Gumbo, arugula salad (too simple in my opinion), and hot dixie chicken (was good the first two times but not after that)
