We ate dinner here before a show at Chesapeake Shakespeare theatre based on their ads in the programs. The escargot appetizer was good, lots of bread to soak up butter and garlic. Main courses were steak pomme frites which was well prepared and a lamb presse with cauliflower and root purée which was excellent. The eclair caramel was outstanding not too sweet

I can’t remember the last time I had such a delicious meal. This restaurant is a gem! Make the time to go, you will not be disappointed! The service was fantastic as well.

No reservations on an early Friday and not part of the pre-theater, but we had a nice open-kitchen view. Steak frites was terrific. Pheasant en croute was beautiful but somehow lacking in that wow-flavor-factor. Ambiance was very nice.

Such a charming place. Food was beautifully prepared, presented. Our server was friendly, knew the menu, gave good advice. LOVE the decor, especially the way Chez Hugo is broken up into smaller sections, like many bistros in Paris. Will return and recommend it highly!

Our first experience was with the prix fixe Valentine's menu, but each bite was delicate and delicious and a successful tease to make us want to go back for more. Looking forward to returning for a meal off their seasonal menu!

From start to finish our meal was spectacular. I highly recommend the escargot and the rabbit dish. It feels like the menu changes often so try to get there before the rabbit is gone!

This review is for Valentine's day special. My husband and I have been to Chez Hugo multiple times in the past and have been pleased with their service and food so we decided to celebrate v-day here but oh boy, what a mistake. That tasting menu for v-day was by far, the worst tasting menu I have ever had in my life. When we got the menu, it was separated into 3 large categories and then 2 desserts (Chocolate Textures and Citruses), please see attached photo of the menu for more detail. You get everything on the menu, and I mean.... Everything. Considering how it was $80 for the tasting menu and only $30 more for wine pairing, we were both pretty excited to get both but the excitement pretty much died right here. FOOD: The best thing out of this entire tasting menu was the Puff Potato from Category II and the desserts: Chocolate Textures and Citruses. I actually really like the different ways the chocolate textures came out but I was disappointed by the inconsistencies in the plating - we got 2 pieces of layered cake, one had 9 layers and the other had 7 layers. Hmmm, did someone eat my bottom 2 layers? Category I Crispy Onion Flowers - raw. It was inedible towards the center because of how raw the onions were, I was tearing up. Fromage Tart - the cheese was extremely overbearing and covered up the beautiful flavors of caviar. Beet Cannelloni - extremely salty. Sunflower seed cream and black garlic flat bread - tasted burnt and unappetizing. Category II Foie Gas, Blue Corn & Chestnut waffle - did not taste or look like waffle, also tasted burnt. Puff Potato - nice and crispy on the outside and delicious avocado and lime cream inside. Oyster Leaf with Beef Tartare - interesting concept but execution fell short, I got a bucket load of horseradish cream whereas my husband got none. Peking Style Duck with Steamed brioche - this was insulting (look at the photo), are you calling Chinese bao bun a BRIOCHE? It does not even LOOK the same or TASTE the same. Lamb with Pea Tendrils - this was interesting how shredded and crispy the lamb was but it was not my favorite. Category III This is what ruined dinner for me. I could not eat them and left the plate barely touched. Crab Custard - tasted mushy and smelled so fishy, gross. Potato Doughnut with Sea Urchin - the sea urchin looked like it was deep fried and I felt that it destroyed the beauty of what a naturally delicious ingredient sea urchin really is. Crispy scallop and black truffle - I have never had a jello like truffle before, it was... yuck. The scallop and the black truffle and apple were wrapped in some sort of a tortilla and was pan fried? It was crispy on the outside but the scallop was chewy (over cooked) with jello like truffle that didn't even taste like truffle and mushy apples. Omg, this was like a torture in my mouth, I spit it out. Like why, Chez Hugo? WHY?!?!?!? SERVICE: Service was awful. The tables next to us were seated after us but kept getting their food before us. Considering how everybody got the tasting menu, we should have received our food first. Also, our waiter was clearly overwhelmed. He would give an explanation of the food that came out to some of the tables and of course, he forget to give us an explanation. He also never refilled our water and we had to ask multiple times to get our utensils changed. OVERALL: Although we have enjoyed Chez Hugo in the past for their regular menu, this v-day experience totally ruined it for us and we will NOT be returning.

I have come across reviews with regards to the burger being one of the better ones in Baltimore and since they dont do carry out decided to pop in for a quick lunch. I will say it was a really good one, my gripe is that i specified medium and it came out more rare than i would have liked, also a yelper did say that the bread is typically not as fresh on Tuesday. He was spot on, i will in future go on a different day. Service was good enough for my in and out dash

Just a lovely little spot. Great for a date or just stop in and eat at the bar. I had the pate which was great, but the real star was the blood sausage. DO NOT leave here without trying the blood sausage, it is fantastic. Great atmosphere, eclectic liquor selection. Just love this place.

Amazing food, cute space, amazing service. One of my favorites restaurants in Baltimore. It's not cheap, so keep it for a special occasion. It's really worth it.

We went for New Years Eve dinner. They had a special menu of champange, truffles and fried chicken. It was truly the best fried chicken I have ever had at a restaurant. All the pieces, light or dark meat, were juicy and full of flavor. The buckwheat waffle with fois gras was crisp and decadent. My only complaint was the chicken lollipop with caviar. The chicken was amazing, very crisp with such tasty breading, but the caviar did not hold up to the chicken. It was only a very small dollop but it was not special. It did not burst with flavor the way it should have to match the chicken. I am excited to go back and try Chez Hugo another night and see if it holds up.
