How the mighty have fallen: There was a time when Holy Frijoles was THE spot to hit in Hamden for good food. Those days are long gone. Its success has made it a mere shell of its former self. Let's start with the bar staff. They all looked as if they just rolled out of bed...the bed being their rusted out 1973 Impalas. To the obese server: the red tank top is not a good look for you. They were actually rude. I guess being a boomer white guy with no tats doesn't qualify for good service. The food, once the talk of Baltimore was just awful. The queso was nothing more than Velveeta. No taste, not hot in the least. I ordered the beef chimichanga supposedly loaded up with extra salsa and more Velveeta. There was so little of it I could hardly see the salsa. And again, no taste. At least the chips were OK. It speaks volumes when the chips were the best part of the meal. Oh, the tea was good. So there's that. And guys, try cleaning up the place a little. Maybe, cleaning off the hot sauce bottles would be good start. They were disgusting. The only reason I went out of my way, actually, was to play the pinball machines. They were OK, I guess. At least half them them were broken down. There were some vintage machines there which was kinda nostalgic. If this place was actually in a competitive market it would sink. But it is obvious they cater to a specific crowd. Really, they are a glorified corner bar and not a really good one.

It is a bar that serves southwestern tex mex food with a standard menu. You get a LOT of food for the money. It has quite gd selection of pinball machines. Likely the best but crabtowne is in

Good for drinks, not so much for food. Crunchy rice with a dry taco, not the best. Good vibe inside and decent cocktails and drinks.

I love dive bars and pinball. That said this place should have aced my requirements but it really didn't. Location just is just lacking atmosphere.Staff was pleasant enough when getting drinks at the bar, but waiting for 45 minutes for simple food even after enquiring several times just doesn't cut it.

I've never had tasteless Mexican food before. Everything was bland! On a positive note, the drinks were good and service cool.

Food was pretty good! The steak quesadilla needed more seasoning but the fish tacos and fried plantains were amazing. Staff was awesome!
