We love this wonderful “old world” restaurant! The menu and the atmosphere are the best in Frederick. Owner Francis and his wife Michele have perfected this amazing dining location! If you close your eyes you can imagine you are in bistro in Paris or Italy. The Venison with the brandy sauce is amazing and any of the pasta dishes you can’t go wrong with. Love the drinks, the coffees and the desserts. If you are in the mood for a romantic, beautiful and authentic dining experience, Up on Market is your number 1 choice! We hope to try their brunch soon!

By far the best dining experience in Frederick. A combination of atmosphere, impeccable cocktails, and carefully crafted entrees wowed us. The best Irish Coffee on par with the Buena Vista in San Francisco.

My family and I visited this establishment on 3/29 at noon. Being a party of six, I had made us reservations. Upon arrival, a woman behind the counter halfheartedly greeted me. I stated we were there for our noon reservation. The restaurant was empty with the exception of a larger party of about ten. The woman behind the counter refused to seat us until the other party was settled and finished saying there ‘hellos’ to one another. We thought this was odd that we couldn’t sit until another party was finished saying hello to each other when there were plenty of tables available and our table was ready as well. This left our party, including my 84 year old father with mobility issues, standing at the cramped entrance for about 10 minutes. We were finally seated and ordered drinks. Our waiter, brought our drinks and took our appetizer orders. We ordered the hummus and empanadas. Both were ok. Our entrees, which were sandwiches and two orders of french toast off the brunch menu, took approximately an hour and half from the time we placed the order. The bread was very hard and food was average, at best. Overpriced for what it was. The male owner did come by and had a chat with us, which was nice. Our waiter was great. He was very polite and apologetic for the excessive wait. I don’t feel this establishment is equipped to handle larger parties. There were other parties there that came in after us and left before us. Overall, the lady at the front is aloof and inhospitable, food is average, wait time was unreasonable.

What a beautiful restaurant with fantastic food. The ambiance mirrors the food perfectly. The attention to detail given to this superbly renovated building from the late 1700's was greatly appreciated by our party! We could sit and sip espresso to the also beautifully paired soundtrack, all day. We had dinner on Friday and brunch on Sunday, and didn't find any crowds. We will hopefully return soon...c'est magnifique!

When we got to the restaurant, we had a reservation at 6:30 PM. We told the hostess who seemed to be the manager (short blonde old lady) she looked like she had no idea what her job was. We waited for five minutes and then she finally pointed to the table across the room in the corner and said oh there's your table over, there didn't even seat us. Gave us eight drink menus and two restaurant menus we had a party of five? We had drinks and appetizers. I had to wait several minutes for my drink, and had to remind my waitress about my drink. (The waitress was fine). However we waiting almost an HOUR for our food. I ordered the filet...please save yourself and order something else. It was chewy and under seasoned sooo much. Our party featured one person with a dairy/egg allergy. We made clear at the beginning that she had an allergy. During the meal she noted she was getting itchy and there must've been something in the food. We told the waitress and just wanted clarification that there was no butter. We were greeted by darth Vader herself - the manager aka the old blonde/grey lady. SHE HAD NO COMPASSION. She was so rude to our table when we were just making sure our friend was ok. She said there was a small amount of parm cheese on the dish which btw is dairy and said "oh that little amount?" YES..REACTION IS REACTION???? There was no is she okay? I'm sorry...literally nothing she just walked away. She was such a B word the review isn't enough. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!!

Disappointed - watery crab bisque, soggy empanadas, under cooked chicken, and oily pasta primavera. Major fail!

Another hit for downtown Frederick. Went to this restaurant for brunch and honestly could have found something for each meal of the day. The ambience is upscale modern French and the menu can be a bit pricey, for good reason. Large portions of delicious fresh food. Paola was our waitress and she gave great suggestions to try, including a really good sparkling rosé that was light and smooth. Two of us got brunch items while one got the Cesar Salad with Salmon and we all cleared our plates. The 3 egg omelettes were very fluffy and not over stuffed with our toppings. The roasted potatoes were perfectly roasted with a delicious dill crème to dip in. For dessert we got the Pan au chocolate croissant and it was small but tasty. Overall, I would go back for another meal and try some of their craft cocktails.

The food was good but I watched the owner berate a server twice and we were only there for about 45 minutes. Would not come here again just because of that. Also, wildly overpriced.

Such an intimate dining experience. The decor is lovely and sets the stage for an exquisite meal. Everything was prepared to perfection.

We arrived at 6:30, seated promptly. A party of 6. The owner, Male, seated us and asked if we had been there before, yes 3 times, He proceeded to tell us the historical improvements, what they did with each board. We gently reminded him, we've heard the story. At each course, regardless of our conversation, he inserted himself into the conversation with recounting how he learned to make bloody Marys from his sister, when he was 12. No consideration of his guest conversation. Each course, brough a new conversation from him, although we told him several times we new the story and we could read, which they have printed for the diner to read. The food was good, long time between courses. Not enough help. Cramped table and banquet for 6 people. Chairs not comfortable. Not again. Too many other good places to dine.

Very aesthetically pleasing & Food was great! (Recommend the pastry basket with berries and cream) only giving 4/5 because of the time we waited to get our food.

I was on a solo shopping trip to downtown Frederick on a Sunday. I happened upon this place and thought I’d give it a try. I was warmly welcomed and seated at a window table, where I enjoyed people watching. I had an excellent glass of Sauvignon blanc with cup of cream of crab soup, followed by the quiche Lorraine. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was prompt and friendly. The decor and music were wonderful and I felt as if I was in an authentic French bistro. I will definitely go back. The menu had something for everyone, and the wine list had a lot of great choices as well. I loved everything about it!

Wonderful, Charming Dinner We had dinner here on the recommendation of a friend, though I admit I was a bit concerned after reading some recent reviews. All for naught! The restaurant is a charming, beautifully decorated bistro, in an old restored building. We had a wonderful, relaxed dinner. Both the entree and dessert were delicious and tastefully presented. The owner stopped by, thanks us for coming and gave us a bit of the history of the decor and the location. As to the comments in some other reviews... we were there on a Tuesday, and were one of only 3 parties there, so things might be different on a crowded weekend. However, our waiter was pleasant and attentive without being obtrusive. I ordered the roasted quail, and he mentioned it would take 20-25 minutes, asking if that was okay for me (it was). When dinner came, I ordered a second glass of wine, and he asked if I might like to try a Resiling they had recently added. He promptly brought me a taste, followed in short order by a full glass. The service was relaxed, but not inattentive. We did not feel rushed, nor were we antsy at any point. It's not a place to go for a quick meal, but if you want to enjoy a special evening, you won't be disappointed.

The atmosphere was unique and historical if your looking for something French corner. The food wasn’t terrible, but wasn’t worth $25 a plate. We came to sit down for breakfast and we ordered the French toast, 2 slices cut into 4, and then I ordered the plain omelette - they called it an omelette even though plain meant literally no choice of cheese and just an egg folded over -$17 I also ordered a side of eggs scrambled for the Child - $8 it came with little baguette slices and a tomato stuffed with Parmesan it was so nice and that would of been my first choice over the just egg omelette - then we ordered two lattes for $8 each not knowing when we asked for a flavor he was charging us the equivalent of an additional espresso shot at $12-On a $72 bill for the above- I handed $100 and was asked if I want change? Basically asking me to agree to giving nearly $30 in tip- I said yes please. He returned $17 and coins keeping $10 without saying anything about it to me- what could of been much more pleasant turned in to robbery and although we don’t have complaints about the taste of the food we won’t be returning-

The restaurant is cozy and well appointed. The issue is the staff and owner-service was non existent. Our party of 4 had a reservation on an evening when there was an event, so the restaurant was full, but understaffed. Initially, the waitress was fine, we didn't have to wait too long for drinks. One of owners came over and chatted as he recognized us as repeat patrons. We placed our order and the waitress then just ignored us, didn't even look over. I had to call out her name to catch her attention for another drink, 20 minutes later, she brought it. We asked for bread and when that finally arrived, part of it was frozen. We had been seated at 6:30 and ordered soon after, and at 8:10 our dinner finally came out. While the rest of the party's dinners were ok, mine was terribly dry so I sent it back. The waitress was visibly annoyed, not sincerely apologetic. Neither owner came over to engage with us about the wait and food issue. We didn't have another hour plus for me to order another dinner, so my party shared with me. I went to speak with the owner about the experience and she was also visibly annoyed that I was bothering her. She made excuses: That's our #1 waitress It's very busy tonight She's doing her best When she asked what I wanted, I said take something off the check, her response was "I am not charging you for the quail" ( that I sent back ). As that wasn't an acceptable response and she wasn't amenable to satisfying her patron, I told we will never come back. Very condescendingly, she put her hand on mine and said you do what you need to do, I have plenty of other customers. They used to be great, but now Up on Market isn't worth the time or aggravation. There are plenty of other wonderful restaurants in Frederick to patronize.
