I came here for lunch for the all you can eat sushi. I probably should of went somewhere else. If y’all had good sushi you should not come here for all you can eat. If you like grocery store sushi, this place is for you! I ate like 10 nigiri eel so I felt like I got my money’s worth. Good people with okay sushi.

TLDR: Endless Sushi and Japanese/Korean eats at a reasonable price! Both maki and nigiri were delicious.Vibe: 3/5. Located in a small strip mall off Congressional, parking at Hinode can sometimes be tough. The strip mall has several popular businesses inside, so parking during peak times can be scarce. On several occasions we have had to street park on nearby side streets and walk to the restaurant. The inside of Hinode is your pretty basic sushi restaurant. Dozens of 4 tops and a large wooden sushi bar occupy the bulk of the main dining area. They have several rooms full of tables, so getting a table is usually quite easy, even for larger groups. The decor is a bit antiquated , but it is clean and they do have 3 very nicely maintained fish tanks at the front that are a joy to watch while you dine.Service: 5/5. The staff have always been very nice and accommodating at Hinode. On our most recent visit for weekend lunch, service lived up to that expectation. We were seated immediately and given the all you can eat menus with our order taken promptly. Both the kitchen and the sushi chefs were quick in getting the food out and our waiter was on top of the beverage refills. Couldn't ask for a better experience .Food: 4/5. Before the pandemic, Hinode used to be a predominantly buffet style restaurant, offering sushi and Japanese/Korean food on the bar for you to take at your leisure. Post pandemic, they have transitioned to an all you can order style of dining, which in my opinion produces a better overall experience. The sushi comes out fresher and you are always guaranteed to get what you want. On my most recent lunch, the sushi was well prepared and generous in fish portion size. The hot foods were also exceptional, offering a delicious alternative to prevent sushi palate fatigue. The portion sizes for each sushi order are also nicely thought out (1 nigiri and 4 pieces per roll) so diners won't get full off of a single roll or 2. Overall, for the price of $23-30 depending if you down for lunch or dinner, Hinode is a great choice for sushioholicsVegetarian options: Some vegetarian sushi and hot food but not enough to warrant the endless food priceKid-friendliness: Mostly sushi so not worth it if the kids don't like sushiParking: Parking is difficult at peak times so be prepared to circle around or street park nearby.Wheelchair accessibility: Restaurant has wide spaces between tables so wheelchairs could fit

Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐What a great deal, all you can eat Shushi, seven days a week! A good variety; sushi, nigiri, sashimi, miso soup, salad, Korean BBQ, Bulgogi, terryaki chicken... I'm not a sushi expert. I enjoyed my meal and so did the two others with me. The sushi rolls were so filling. I recommend ordering the nigiri, and a limited amount of sushi rolls. For those of you who don't eat much just order á la carte. A California roll without caviar is only $5.75. pair that with miso soup and green tea and you have a meal for about $11. A bargain! Very large seating area and an area in the back you may reserve for large parties. Take out service is popular. Decent parking, one handicap parking space for the entire row of businesses, so be prepared to wait a little bit for a good parking space if you need to park near the entrance. Definitely worth checking out. Enjoy!

Nice lunch & dinner all you can eat with some restrictions on quantity but still reasonable. I had a nice salad, miso soup, Korean bulgogi, kimchi, cucumber salad and a nice tuna roll with some nice pieces of salmon, tuna & mackerel sushi. It was prepared nicely snd I really enjoyed myself. The bulgogi portion was a bit small but tasty nevertheless.

Maybe not the greatest sushi in the world but it's darn good. Our family goes there a couple times a year. Lots of variety. Always fresh. It's reliable, a good meal, and a nice place to go to. It's nice for our family - there's plenty of variety for everyone. Can't go wrong here.

Great service but the overall food quality is very low considering the cost and the history of this place. While times are hard indeed the rice had an old taste, the salmon dishes didn't quite taste right and the texture and temperature was too warm. The gyoza paper was off putting but so was the filling. While I was a coward and didn't bring this to the waitress attention I was literally staring at the guy behind the counter making the sushi. Perhaps the all you can eat days of old are long gone. Go up the pike to get better quality sushi for the same price.

Okay so this is one I would actually say, believe the good reviews! It's around 30 per person for the All You Can Eat which lets you pick up to 10 nigiri options, 4 sushi rolls, and 4 selections from the Kitchen per round. The Menu is thoroughly explained on little papers at the table. The Kitchen Menu has all Asian favorites and they're all surprisingly delicious! Fried rice, lo mein, sesame chicken, egg rolls, dumplings were all so good I ended up ordering twice. You can have the person you're with order different dishes and share so you can try more items. I've been twice so far and still havent tried all the options I wanted (teriyaki salmon, bulgogi, tempura) because the menu is so expansive and filling! For the people saying the sushi isnt that good--this is Rockville MD which is miles from the sea its not like any of the sushi around is gonna be the most gourmet you'll ever have in your life, but its still delicious and its all you can eat! You can take your leftovers to go for a surcharge of $5-10 (depending on how much you've ate, which I think is fair). Great experience. Super lowkey location too, and the staff is friendly.

My husband & I just went here for the allyou can eat lunch. We got sat immediately- the staff was so kind and responsive… the whole experience was very seamless. And the food was AMAZING! Really everything I had was delicious and took no longer than 5 minutes to be prepared.(I am also pregnant so I consider myself to be an extremely picky eater right now. So this is quite literally the best review I have ever given any restaurant.)10/10 worth it!!!

Don't listen to the negative reviews. This is my favorite AYCE Japanese in Maryland! Great mix if sushi, salads, and Japanese food with good enough service. Can est outside too. I love it.

Decently priced all you can eat sushi ($30/per person for weekend dinner). I've been here a few times for their AYCE but keep forgetting to review it. Recently, we came an hour before they closed and they welcomed us in. The servers are nice and attentive. They serve sushi and non-sushi dishes (like noodles, tempura, rice, katsu, tofu, soup, salad, edamame, etc). The shrimp and vegetable tempura is always good and battered well. The bulgogi was pretty good too. For maki, it's decent quality for AYCE sushi. They do not have many "special" maki options. For nigiri, the fish slices are pretty thin, more than some other AYCE locations. Their menu is somewhat limited to other locations. You order everything on a piece of paper and they bring it to you. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to come here but good if you want AYCE sushi and already in the area. I would rate it a 3.5/5, rounding it up to a 4/5.

Stay away.Food is not even close to Japanese.Quality is really bad.If thats your first time to Japanese Kitchen you will be scary to visit any other place after that.Stuff is great.

Very mediocre. Over priced for the quality. Waited 30 minutes to get pork katsu that was obviously not freshly fried (lukewarm) and looked like it was under a hear lamp for few hours. (dried brown meat). They did make me a new one that was very good and this time only took only 10 minutes.Don't order the bulgogi (soggy that looks like it has been sitting on a steam tray) and the spicy tuna tempura roll. It is made with canned Tuna and cold and hard in the middle. (see photo attached)Vegetable and shrimp tempura was to standard.Sushi was overpriced for the quality.Service was fine except for one waiter who was very argumentative when I showed him the bad pork katsu.

We've been going to Hinode for 15 years, mostly because of the All you can eat buffet. The Sushi has always been just ok, not amazing like some other local establishments but good enough to keep coming back. Back in the day it was $15.95 and understandably has gone up over the years to where it's now $30.95. However, during our latest visit we were completely unimpressed. The AYCE bar is gone. They give you 2 separate ordering menus that set a limit to what your allowed to order. The rice was bad, thinly sliced fish that was cut so small and thin. I think there hoping the abundant amount of rice they serve with each piece will fill you up. We ordered our limit allowed, however got filled up on rice and couldn't finish so requested to take the rest home. We were floored when we were told it cost $5.00 additional to take home leftovers. Our server was rude and didn't understand our complaint that we ordered our limit, however we had to pay to take the rest home. What restaurant does that. I also think the language barrier of the servers needs to be addressed. The restaurant is old and very outdated compared to other establishments. So sad, after 15 years of loyalty to Hinode we will not be returning!!

I've been looking for an AYCE sushi place ever since I moved here and I still haven't found one that does it for me. (This review is only for the AYCE, no idea what their a la carte is like)I came by myself on a Thursday around 6pm, not too much people, but people started coming in as I was finishing up.For ~$30/person, not bad price-wise. If you bump it up to $35/person, you can order sashimi too, but I wasn't feeling that. In total, I got about 10 pieces of nigiri, 6 rolls, and 2 skewers of chicken.First off, I can understand AYCE establishments putting small amounts of fish with large amounts of rice, that's understandable, but at least make the rice taste good. It was colder than room temperature (you don't want sushi rice to be warm though) and kind of dry tasting. The fish itself was alright. The chicken skewers were honestly really bad. The chicken had very little flavor and it was really hard to chew, almost like it had been overcooked. For the money, you can definitely get a lot of food, but it's not that enjoyable.

I’m sorry but wafer thin, 1.5 inch long, tiny nigiri with mostly rice is a complete ripoff for the all you can eat buffet. Would be ok if they didn’t charge for leftover rice. I want AYCE Fish not rice. I miss Matuba :(
