This is a wonderful place operated by knowledgeable and friendly people. They have a variety of delicious food and drink options. The grilled cheese here is taken to the next level, definitely a must try! Also, the desserts are fantastic! If you find yourself at a Sea Dogs or Celtics game and have some time before or after you should check it out!

Absolutely lovely, delicious small plates and refreshing specialty drinks in a clean and cozy space. Had their version of shrimp cocktail with an expresso martini. Great addition to Portland. This place has become very popular with folks that want light fare and amazing cocktails. Simply the Best!!!Paul Hood

Fantastic meal and service. We had the seared tuna and the steak tips. The tuna was very fresh (sashimi grade) and a huge portion. Lightly seared with sesame seeds. The steak was tender and delicious. Our server was very polite and attentive. We will definitely be back.

I really enjoyed stopping in here for some drinks and a small bite to eat. The bartenders were friendly and helpful! I enjoyed the low key somewhat divey atmosphere. I enjoyed having some of the small plates they had and it felt like I was having tapas!! I especially enjoyed the tuna!!

Great laid back ambiance (loved the vintage jazz playlist). Well chosen small plate choices. Loved everything except the unripe tomatoes in the special burrata and tomatoes (it's still homegrown tomato season so should have been better). Bread and olives - very good; seared tuna (sesame coated, perfectly cooked) - exceptional; martini - large and very well-mixed; special burrata/tomato plate - nice blend of flavors except for the unfortunate tomato. Surprisingly reasonable prices for high quality food and drinks.

A newer business that deserves a chance. Serving small plates we started with Kalamata olives and toast points. A perfect starter. Burrata and tomatoes would have been better if they had waited for the tomatoes to ripen. We ended with seared tuna for a fabulous finish. Done with a distinct Japanese flare including wasabi and pickled ginger the sesame crusted tuna went down beautifully. My partner's martini was huge and moderately priced. Great atmosphere and music. Make this corner bar your next visit.

Came down to Portland for surgery and was staying at the Inn next door. Checked out the menu for Bread & Olive and it was exactly what I was looking for. Sat at the bar, where I was greeted by the owner Sarah, who was super friendly in a very genuine way. I ordered a delicious Chardonnay and the 'Bistro Plate', (basically the MOST excellent Charcuterie Board I have had) for $22. This was to be my dinner, and I could not finish it all. Met some great 'locals', (who seemed to be regulars), as well as a few other patrons. Lovely time, food and ambiance.

We discovered this " best kept secret" while staying at the Inn at St. Johns. It's incredible to be able to say that every aspect of our meal, the colossal shrimp that was grilled with perfect textures and flavor, to the brilliant creme brulee and wonderful port, is worth the visit and a return!Portion sizes are perfect for small plated meals, absolutely no waste.Bread and olive is an establishment where the value is equal between meal, service and quality of atmosphere...Very well done!Philip and SonjaLitchfield, MinnesotaParking: Typical Portland parking but it is within walking distance from any of the available side street spaces.

Love this place! Really tasty and interesting small plates made to order; well-stocked bar with skilled and generous tenders; well-managed, friendly, local gem of a place!

Stopped by for lunch and it was super tasty. I chose one of the salads with couscous and pesto and it was a serious portion. My husband opted for the humus and falafel which came with a generous serving of bread which we both enjoyed. Not busy and relaxed service, delicious food!

Amazing lunch find on our cruise stop in Portland. We had the grilled Haddock bowl and was perfectly splendid. The fish was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was inviting and staff extremely friendly. Will definitely be back on our next trip to Portland

We had an excellent lunch here. We were overheated and wanted something quick and light, this was the perfect place. Everything was flavorful but not salty. It also didn’t break the bank. If we were staying longer we would definitely go back.

Everything from the drinks to the ambience to the decor was 5 stars! We had such lovely conversations with Sarah and other locals who seem to just adore this place. The night we had here was one for the books!

A slightly elevated dive bar in a decidedly not elevated part of town, I feel that Bread & Olive has remained under the radar. The cocktail list is huge, with most in the $12 range. These are strong cocktails. Like I came home legit fade to black after two. If you drive home from Bread & Olive, the county jail is conveniently a block away. The food is better than it should be as well. The charcuterie board is a steal at $22. Filled with various cheeses, meats, nuts and jams, the only downfall was limited bread options (isn't Bread in your title?). I love baguettes, but it's too heavy to be the only show in town. Maybe crackers would be a good fit? It's been a locals-only crowd during my couple of visits and is a great respite from summer tourist season.
