The Frying Dutchman has been on my radar for a while. Even way back, when they were just serving fries. But then... behold! Something I've had on my bucket list forever! Korean corn dogs on a stick! At first, I assumed they were meat corn dogs, and my excitement faded... but my vegetarian/pescatarian self was delighted to hear they are just cheese. There's no "just" about these corn dogs tho. My brother and I visited, and we got two each. They're pretty hefty. My fear, I'll be honest, was the fear I often have when I eat fair food that's deep fried - the expectation that I'll have to take a Tums later. But these were lightly fried, in a sweet batter, and I didn't feel glutinous (or bloated) when I left the market house. I got the Panko dog with wasabi mayo and bonito flakes (I will say, I adore wasabi mayo but this was "just ok" I wanted some more kick!) It was stringy and so fun to eat. I also got the ramen dog, and this was by far my favorite. Deep fried in ramen pieces with gochujang mayo and green onion? It was soooo good. If I'm ever craving a corn dog again, I know I'll be back. Trust me, you have to try it at least once in your life!

The best fries I have ever had in my life by a mile! And the chicken sandwich was truly delicious. I was even able to grab a much needed ice coffee. Can't wait to try some other items on the menu.I was staying in Portland for a wedding a stumbled upon it while looking for a lunch spot. The second I walked in I knew I had found a gem with a ton of soul. Highly recommend!

The BEST fried chicken I ever had. I’m sorry every other place in Portland that claims to have fried chicken. You pale in comparison to this small business that truly knows how to make a fried chicken. Pair it with a small (or regular, who am I to judge?!) mapo poutine and you’ll thank me later.

LOVE the FD! My husband and I have visited 2-3 times now and it never disappoints.Whether it's loaded fries, S+P calamari (the best!), or hand pulled noodles, its ALL good and unique.I appreciate you need to pre order the hand pulled noodles and some other specialty items online ahead of time. I visit from out of town so its nice to know my order will be ready at Xpm.

They advertise themselves as 'Global Street Tapas' -- maybe because of the Dutch fries and meatball, Japanese ramen, fried Maine blueberry ice cream, the Sichuan version of Canadian poutine, the Thai fried chicken, and the Korean slant on the American corn dog. I got the curry fried chicken, which was good but needed more seasoning, even though there was a Thai red curry aioli sauce for dipping. Next time I'll try the fries and the salt & pepper calamari. The mapo poutine and the Korean cheese corn dog looked interesting. Hint: try to avoid ordering when the local high school kids are there for lunch because it'll be a long wait -- they seem to love that place.

Loved the Frying Dutchman, arrrrrrrh!!!!! Ha! They’re on the second floor of the Public Market. The gentleman operating the location is very kind. We assumed he is also the location owner. We had their Classic with Garlic Mayo, Curry Ketchup, and Gochujang Mayo, and Chopped Onions. Yum! The gentleman also kindly made me a hot coffee that was great. It was a small to-go cup but it was packed with flavor for a little guy. I felt plenty buzzing after drinking it. When you’re in the area, enjoy some items from all the vendors. They all have a lot to offer. I plan on trying the Jamaican stall, and the Pho stall next! Enjoy!

In The Market on the 2nd floor is the Frying Dutchman. Wonderful food, great service. Shared table space but definitely recommend. We stopped here while walking the town. The French fries were wonderful. Avoid the tourist old Town and head here for lunch.Kid-friendliness: Fried chicken and fries, what could go wrong.

I absolutely love fries and The Frying Dutchman has the best fries in Portland! The sauces complement the fries so well, but the fries are so good that they also taste perfect without sauces. The adults and the kids in our party loved all the food. Everything we tried was so satisfying and tasted so fresh. Also very reasonably priced and affordable, even the seafood. The batter on the calamari and Korean cheese dog is light and crispy. The Mapo poutine is so flavorful and so well balanced. The strawberry choco flan is a must try dessert. It tastes as good as it sounds. They are located on the 2nd floor of the Portland Public Market House. There are dining tables and chairs which is convenient to accommodate our party with kids. Highly recommend this place. The owners are very kind and friendly too.
