One mai a wanted a good lunch place, so we decided to go to imperial China in south Portland. I ordered 2 orders of steamed meat dumplings. The wait was pretty short. I got 6 dumplings to start and the waiter said that I would get the other 6 in a couple of minutes. They were amazing! I personally love doughy food and this is the doughiest you can get. The meat on the inside was extremely flavorful and soft, but not mushy. My mom ordered Mei fun noodles with chicken, and she loved it. It was the perfect lunch portion and was super affordable. My aunt ordered chicken lo Mein and she really liked it too. Overall it was a good experience the food was great, but if you are looking for somewhere fancy this is not your place.

For me to write a review it either has to be really good or really bad. And this was really bad. We ordered orange chicken, fried rice, chow mein, crab Rangoons, and an egg roll. Their was something chewy and questionable in the orange chicken and the flavor was so weird. The rice was average. They didn't even give us our chow mein and second side of rice and gave us wonton soup instead (which was atrocious). The rangoons were really dry. And the egg roll was red inside?? The only good thing was the wonton chips which you can't mess up. Not to mention the two women at the counter were extremely rude to all of us. Needless to say, panda is 10x better than this place. Not sure how they earned all the awards on their wall with food like this.

This afternoon we tried to find a Chinese resturant with indoor dining. We stumbled upon this place and are glad we did. The place is spacious and very clean. We ordered a pu pu platter with vegetable fried rice. The food was excellent and our server was friendly and prompt. Definitely will return!

The best Chinese food in Greater Portland by far. And awesome staff that has been here forever. Always welcoming. Family owned. We’ve been coming here for more than 30 years. Please support this independent locally owned family business.

The sesame chicken I had was very dry (I have never in my life seen white meat sesame chicken) and the fried rice was bitter and mushy and just inedible, which is a word I do not use lightly. When I asked for that dish to be refunded, I was told that I had to bring the food back to them that same day, and tomorrow would be too late, because if they let me bring it back tomorrow I might "get food from another restaurant"?? This was not a good experience at all.

I ate Chinese food all the time, cause my job makes me travel a lot, and Chinese food is quick and cheap, but this place, let me tell you.The have a wall full of awards, and they deserve it, cause the food is awesome, what a good food what a good place.Saturday Dec, 25 2021

Very disappointed with Imperial China Chinese Restaurant. Food was OK only reason rated 2 stars. The service was terrible from being seated, waited on and leaving the restaurant. The waiter and another employee were talking in a foreign language across the room to each other while the waiter was standing next to our table. This happened throughout our meal. The menu stated we will meet dietary needs of customers, wife is allergic to sugar, unable to make sauce without using sugar. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT.

Some dishes are quite good, like the Mongolian beef or the double cooked pork. Those are probably their best dishes . Everything else I've tried there is quite average . However, they are one of the few places that make cold noodles and sesame paste and that's okay. But don't even try the egg foo young. Possibly the worst sauce I ever had, though the patties we're ok. The chicken wings are also horrible.
