I've been debating posting this because I truly like supporting The Fat Tomato, we've been going for a while now, and their food is something both my partner and I enjoy. However, I don't think I will be supporting them in the future or at least I will not order within an hour of closing because this most recent visit I was met with plastic in my food. Thankfully it was a big enough piece for me to notice but unfortunately this soured my experience. The sandwich (beef gyro) has been a recent favorite and I was really looking forward to it, but when you bite down on something and it turns out to be a part of a plastic tag (like the ones you use to tie a bread bag), that made its way into the mix....that is a potentially dangerous situation. That said, their Greek salad was really good and the sandwich itself, apart from the plastic piece, was also good.I did not call the restaurant because by the time we got home and began eating they had already closed for the evening. But I want ownership to know this: while I am not one to call and complain, this could have happened to a child or to someone else and it could have resulted in a much dire way. Thankfully I was able to pick out the piece and did not notice any other issues. I also understand that the restaurant industry is still impacted by the pandemic, that training new folks takes time and effort. But please, please be more mindful when preparing guest's food. I shouldn't have had to worry about accidentally ingesting any additional fragments of plastic. Moving forward I hope the new owners can return to the quality and care I have come to know and love from The Fat Tomato.

The food and the quality isn’t the same as it used to be. The guy working there was kinda smug and rude when I asked about the menu. ???

I had been coming to fat tomato for a long time, but sadly I won’t anymore. I grew up in the area and fat tomato was always a super convenient option with good food. Unfortunately the ownership recently changed in late 2023 and things have taken a jurassic turn for the worse. The original owners were genuinely so nice and prioritized the quality of the food as well as your experience as a customer. Sadly the same can’t be said about the new owners, I immediately noticed a dip in quality when I found out about the ownership change (once freshly breaded chicken now frozen, once fresh oven roasted turkey now just deli turkey meat) but I was willing to overlook it and give the new owners a chance. One day I called in a sandwich in a rush on my way to work and the man who took my order “alex” assured me my order would be ready within 12 minutes, I showed up almost 30 minutes later and when I asked for my order they hadn’t even started preparing it. Then when I asked for an explanation Alex simply said he didn’t have one. I then asked for a voucher/gift card since I had no time to wait and then the “new owner appeared” after much resistance he agreed to give me a voucher equal to the value of my order which I was fine with. However I then asked him for a explanation as to what was going on he acted extremely offended and told me my expectations were too high. it’s a little ridiculous to be told 12 minutes on the phone and 30 minutes later nothing had been prepped so explanation to what happened doesn’t seem like much to ask for. As if that wasn’t enough he then told me it was best I don’t comeback as my “expectations are too high”. As a long time customer this experience was sad, because fat tomato always stood for good convenient food and a warm atmosphere however as far as i’m concerned fat tomato died when the original owners sold it. I definitely won’t be giving fat tomato anymore chances after this experience and i’ve stopped recommending them to people. Support other amazing local businesses with genuinely good local food and people such as MOOSEBURGER, WILDWILLYS, STONEWALL KITCHEN CAFE, Ect. it’s unfortunate I have to write this review as a long time fan of fat tomato but after my experience with “alex” and the new owner fat tomato is not a good restaurant at all.Ps. ALEX AINT P, rip fat tomato late 2023

I'm currently in 8th grade at YMS, and thank god this place exists; nothing beats going through, ugh, school, and getting to walk here afterwards. Great food, employees are awesome, chill vibe. Some stuff is a lil' pricey, but hey, good food is good food. If you're planning on going, definitely get the mozzarella sticks, absolutely outstanding compared to other places.Dietary restrictions: They have a little bit of everything.Parking: Not many places to park, but it's conveniently right in front of the shop.Kid-friendliness: They're nice. I'm a kid... I guess... 13 counts, sorta...

Mid-October, off-season and we're looking for a place for lunch after a long hike. Everything was closed except the house of pizza, but while driving there were spotted the Fat Tomato Grill, so we backed out of the house of pizza and parked across from the grill. Friendly staff, indoor and outdoor seating. We chose outdoor. Some tables have umbrellas, others are in the shade. our food was brought to us quickly. It was wrapped and packaged incase we wanted to take it, but we ate outside since it was so nice out. We got The Rachel and Roger's Thanksgiving sandwiches plus a full order of the fresh hand cut fries. The food was good, nothing wrong with it, but I had expected more. There was room in the basket for more fries, and the salt was not evenly distributed. I thought they would not even need it, but I did find myself dipping them in ketchup. This place is very popular with the locals. Our sandwiches were good, no complaints, they just weren't great. We appreciated the marble rye. Our order came with three mini cups of ketchup and some napkins.

Small counter service burger joint, with a couple of tables inside and a few outside by the side of the road. The staff are really friendly, and really seemed to be enjoying what they were doing. We had the home made veggie burger which was delicious. Would definitely eat here again.

This place is an amazing hidden gem. My husband and I found it last year. This year when we came back to Maine for our anniversary. We stopped before even checking into our hotel. Great food and great service.

Was visiting York for a friends wedding and wanted to enjoy some local shops. Stumbled upon this place while window shopping in the town center and gave it a try. The food was delicious - classic sandwiches and crispy fresh fries. The Reuben was melt in your mouth cheesy, and the outdoor seating area let me still enjoy the ambiance of downtown York! The customer service was phenomenal, family oriented and clearly locally owned/operated. Definitely stop by for an unforgettable, and nostalgic, sandwich!

Fat Tomato has new owners, I was skeptical, yet the sandwich quality was as good -- if not better -- than the last time. The Rachel (Reuben with turkey) was nice and toasty/grilled, well-balanced with swiss, cole slaw, and dressing. The side of fries were as crunchy and lightly salted as I remembered. Food size is generous; I'll have the other half with fries tomorrow,. Because food is cooked-to-order it is not fast but you can order ahead online. Alex the order taker/operations guy was courteous, attentive, and called most everyone by name. To sum it up, Yum!

My mother lives in York, so I visit a lot. I had never noticed Fat Tomato Grill before. My bad. I've now eaten there twice. The food is excellent. There isn't much by way of service, and the outdoor seating is somewhat uncomfortable and close to the road. But the food was first class, and was prepared quickly. I've tried a cheese steak sub and a pulled pork sandwich. Both were excellent and served very hot. I suspect that if I had gone there at a time they were busy it might not have gone so well, but who knows? I'll be back.
