This was my first time at this restaurant and I was there for a work dinner. It was lively in the restaurant and a little louder and people around us seemed to be deeply engaged in conversation. Our server was very attentive. We ordered cocktails, and a few appetizers that included spinach artichoke dip, the shrimp, brussels sprouts and a couple of folks got the gumbo. I ordered the scallops and grits as my meal. The grits were delicious and the scallops were well prepared. Not overcooked at all the dish had a bit of a kick that was perfect other folks order the salmon, and they seem to like it. I ordered the English garden with vodka, and it was smooth. I enjoyed it very much. We will be back again!

I recently went to the black pearl, and the food was great! The only issue is that there was a homeless man outside of the window which continuously started at the girls and made us extremely uncomfortable. However, the restaurant could not have made us feel safer and handled the situation wonderfully. After informing the waitress, the manager went outside personally to speak to the man, however, he ran away right when he saw the manager come. The manager then proceeded to stand by the door and come over to apologize, personally. Amazing staff, great food, and great ambiance!

Probably one of the best in Ann Arbor and great location in downtown. Will need to park in nearby parking garage. Service and food selection is great. Can get noisy.

Appetizers, entrees, drinks and dessert were fantastic. A great placeVegetarian options: The mushroom entree would be considered more of an app than entree.

I truly wish I remembered our servers name because I do not belive our visit here would have been as memorable without them. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was great. But our server went above and beyond. They got our friend a piece of cake for his birthday when the kitchen was closed. They got us the recipe for the spicy ketchup. Never underestimate the value of kindness. We can't wait to come back.

We went here for a date night and everything was so delicious! We started with the Harvest Salad that had apples, butternut squash, and goat cheese with an apple cider and agave vinaigrette! It was a perfect combo of sweet and tangy. For cocktails, I got the Fatalistic Danger- which was nicely balanced. Fruity, but not too sweet. It's made with Ravo vodka, Solerno blood orange liqueur, St. Elder, and lime. My husbands drink was the Agave You My All- which reminded me of drinking apricot nectar! Very good. For an entree I got the Denver steak which is a 7oz American Wagyu Zabuton, medium rare. This was one of the best steaks I've ever had!! It was perfectly cooked, simply seasoned, and the taste was so flavorful and buttery. It was nice and juicy and just melted in my mouth! It was accompanied but some nice asparagus but the Boursin potatoes are a new fav of mine! So creamy and cheesy and just full of flavor! My husband had the white fish and said it was very good. He also got the I Pine For You cocktail- I tried a bit and it was full of delicious pineapple flavor :) I should also note that the ambiance was romantic and the service was friendly, accurate, and quick! I can't wait to go back!

Love the heated patio sheds. They’re actually adequately heated. The food was delicious- highly recommend the salmon, the salad, and the potstickers. We had some non alcoholic cocktails as well that were pretty good. The server was kind and attentive. Would recommend for a nice date night!

Came here during the 2024 Ann Arbor Restaurant Week. Got to try the seafood gumbo and fried brussels (GF) for appetizers. The gumbo was flavorful and spicy. The brussels were crispy and sweet. Hummus was a nice addition to the brussels sprouts. For our main entree we got the Atlantic Misoyaki Salmon and the Scallop and Grits. Salmon was soft and delightful, while the scallop and grits was my favorite dish of the night. Lastly, we tried Tres Leche Carrot Cake which was so yummy and super filling. We also ordered a drink that wasn't part of the restaurant week menu. 'I Pine Over You' was the name. I tend to enjoy sweeter alcoholic drinks but this one wasn't as sweet as I had hoped. Ambiance was nice, would recommend this place for a date night.

I enjoyed a delicious bowl of gumbo and the salmon entrée while I was in for restaurant week. The gumbo was nice and hearty with lots of goodies, and the roux was velvety smooth. The salmon was absolutely the best I have had in very long time, served atop nicely seasoned fingerling potatoes. Expectations were exceeded.
