I mean the service is ok, but there was to much going on outside for me.

Ordered take-out from here for the first time today. They were friendly and fast and the food was delicious! I love it that we are getting more and more local restaurants in town!

This mess was disgusting ion even know what the first picture was. The pork chops were nasty taste like it was frozen then thawed. How hard is it to fry a pork chop make a gravy. We got the barbecue plate to that crap wasn’t smoked and tAsted like a refrigerator..This is so sad man.

Great meal of Walleye, potatoe salad, and cold slaw. Wait time was excessive; however, good food is worth the wait.First time eating at this new soul food restaurant. I will be making a return visit to try other menu items.Recommend you try ? it for your next meal.

After a day cycling the Battle Creek Linear Trail, we decided to have a special dinner at Kitchen Proper, where we'd been once before, last year. The hummus with turmeric appetizer was definitely a starter I'd get again! The shrimp linguine had a lemony brightness and flavor balance. The cheesecake with brulee topping was over the top! It was unlike any we'd had before. I'd get it all again. The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and the ambiance made for a memorable experience. We'll be back!

Definitely the best restaurant in the general Battle Creek area...without exception. The talent of the owners and the food that is prepared is second to none in the area. Tony and Sarah have done a great job with Kitchen Proper. Most people would not expect a restaurant of this quality in Battle Creek. It could compete with restaurants in much larger cities. In the 5 county area where there are many fine/excellent restaurants, it is in my top 5. Definitely should be on everyone's list...especially those that appreciate quality.

I am a local and this is the best place to eat at in Battle Creek. We dine there at least 2x a month. Never (yes never) had a bad meal! Book it! Enjoy!

Great food, creative menus changing daily, open kitchen, courteous service. As good as you can find anywhere. Tony & Sarah have created a gem with a great cast in the kitchen and serving. Compliments from Dennis

Shhh. Don’t tell anyone else! This place is a rarity and a big surprise for Battle Creek. I was simply amazed that Battle Creek has a place like this. Creative food and excellent service combined to make this a great evening. It’s not a large place, and it can get a bit noisy with a few extra happy diners, but it’s well worth the visit. We will be back, and back, and back again!

Can't say enough about this gem of a restaurant, serving a contemporary mix of Italian, Mediterranean, and American dishes, in a comfortable, relaxed setting. The food is truly fine, the vibe is fun. Nothing is more encouraging than entering a restaurant to the sound of laughter. When four of us arrived on a mid-week night, the place was hopping: guests and staff alike seemed to be enjoying themselves. We were met with smiles (and apologies even though we'd arrived 10-15 few minutes before our reservation) and asked if we'd like drinks while we waited for our table. (Although the waiting area is cramped, there is seating.) Cocktails were perfect. My husband is always impressed when a bar gets his dry Manhattan just the way he likes it. Bingo for him--and everyone at the table. We all shared the baked goat cheese appetizer with crostini--and loved the combination of flavors: tart creamy cheese, walnuts, fruit. Next, each of us had either Caesar or the "Proper" (house) salad. I can speak to the Caesar, an excellent version. The house salad was also deemed "fresh" and "well-prepared," with good dressing. I ordered the pappardelle with ragu. I couldn't finish the portion, but wanted to as it was absolutely delicious. As was the rigatoni with Italian sausage, which I tasted. My husband had seared duck breast with red cabbage--big thumbs up from him. The fourth entree was ordered from the selection of tempting daily specials featured on a large chalkboard. (I know it had scallops and pasta, maybe shrimp, and I know it was devoured with joy.) Someone ordered a dessert for the table, but I couldn't manage even a bite (and the wine we had with dinner must have erased my memory of what it was). We all ordered coffee, wanting to linger in the experience. Service throughout on this busy night was great--friendly, accommodating, not at all stuffy. We walked out feeling the same happiness we saw on the faces of folks when we entered. If we had not been heading South a couple days later, we'd have returned. We certainly will next time we're in the area.

Great food and service! I recommend the Ahi Tuna Flatbread. The downtown area of Battle Creek is getting a facelift and this place will be a key driver for drawing people to the area.
