I recently discovered this spot and I loved it!! The rolls are delicious and the decor is nice too. Happy we have a great sushi spot in downtown Detroit!

Last night I dined at Maru to celebrate a special occasion with friends. It was the first and only meal I had last evening. Upon leaving, I began to feel increasingly ill. Throughout the night I had gastrointestinal issues that included vomiting and diarrhea. At certain points in the evening it was explosive diarrhea and projectile vomiting. This morning after visiting urgent care I was told that I had a case of food poisoning. I attempted to call multiple times in order to report the issue with a manager and was unable to reach anyone. I also reached out via email and still did not receive any kind of response.UPDATE 3/5/2024:I was contacted by the GM of Maru and was given a refund for my meal and a gift card in hopes that I will visit again soon. I appreciate the effort on the company’s part to rectify the situation and will visit again soon in hopes of a better experience.

2nd time at Maru, and disappointed.Food took way too long to come out. We waited 30 minutes for appetizers and an hour and a half for sushi rolls.Everything tasted great and our waiter was nice, but ridiculous to wait that long for sushi.

I was excited to visit this restaurant being that I had a great experience at the Grand Rapids location. Despite making reservations for a special event, the wait time was surprisingly long and the restaurant was a bit chilly. While the wait and greet staff were pleasant, we experienced significant delays in service due to being short-staffed.We were immediately waited on by our waitress and were served water as that’s all we wanted, after sitting for about 10-15 minutes we placed our order. We sat for about another 20 minutes before our waitress informed us that hopefully our meal would be out shortly due to being short staffed. We sat for another 15- 20 minutes and decided that after being at the restaurant for an hour to cancel our order because we had another event lined up to be at in the next 30 minutes and The couple at the table besides us informed us that they waited for an hour and a half for their 3 sushi rolls.So to our disappointment we didn’t even get to try the food and unfortunately had to result to fast food. Although the initial impressions were positive, the disappointing service and long wait times make me uncertain about returning in the future.

I’m so picky and maru hits every-time. Our waitress Vanessa today was adorable, ambiance is a 10/10. The sushi guys sing and bring the best vibes!! Perfect for 21+ date nightupdate 2/20 I keep coming back i’ve been here at least 12 times in the last 12 months. I have so many good thing to say about Maru and Venessa, we had here again tonight ❤️❤️— with that being said I am BEGGING the new :) chef to switch the crème brûlée from the eggnog flavor. I’ve tried the lemon and the eggnog. It’s past valentine’s day, we’re just not feeling the eggnog anymore ?? please give us the lemon back or plain!! ??

Place is pretty cold. I have been there twice and my last experience is very disappointing. I had to wait almost 1.5 hrs for the rolls, in one of those I was missing the fish and had no time to wait for the next order. It is not a quality place anymore.
