The food: calamari was like shoe leather. They say tempura I say panko and someone forgot it in the fryer. Service: she did not notice the calamari sat there. Ambiance: this is the second time they started cleaning the back with fabuloso a full hour before close. It smells bad and the sushi tastes like it. The good: mochi!

Mmmm I love love love the sushi burritos here at Jaku! I have yet to find another place in Grand Rapids that sells these! You get a large sushi burrito for a reasonable price, I can normally split this up between two meals if I'm ordering out. I have dined in once as well, and the restaurant is very clean and the service is extremely efficient. My dad and I showed up after work and we were so ready to eat, and our apps and entrees were served within minutes! My favorite sushi burrito is pictured here - the Fire Crunch burrito!

Rather expensive but the quality is there. In most cases an order that would contain two pieces of sushi (Nori) is reduced to one piece so the price in some cases is double. They offer unique rolls, but I stay away from most of them. My love of sushi does not include cream cheese or mayonnaise. There are less expensive options in town to be sure but Jaku offers consistent quality and freshness. A nice treat once in a while but too expensive for me to make it a regular. Again, there are better priced options.

Stopped here for a quick bite and was in and out just as I hoped. My server, Camila, was kind and efficient. The restaurant was accommodating with my allergy, the food was delicious and I was on my way in no time. Thanks for a great, quick visit.

Our waitress Karen had great suggestions and kept on top of it. I hope she is paid more than just tip wage!Dietary restrictions: I have a few dietary restrictions and my server did a great job answering questions.Kid-friendliness: They have a great kids section on the menu but makes them feel like adults using the big menu.

Upon walking into Jaku, the atmosphere was quite nice. We went at dinner time so it was notably busy, thus we were lucky to get a table upon walking in. The decor of the venue was quite modern and elevating in combination with the ambient lighting. Even though the restaurant seating was full, it didn't feel too cramped to sit within the restaurant and it didn't feel too loud even though everyone was having their own conversations and there was also background music. The menu was quite extensive and I felt that there was good value for all the option they offered. We ordered shumai, gyoza, three rolls of sushi, and mochi. For the shumai, it is not similar to the ones that you'll find at a traditional dim sum place (it felt more like a round shrimp dumpling that had been steamed). The gyoza was pretty standard, pan fried. The sushi rolls that we had were the highlight, the fish was fresh, it was clear that they were hand prepared and arranged (very nicely). The mochi order had 3 pieces in it and we had the option to choose between red bean, green tea, mango, and strawberry. We had the latter three options. The strawberry tasted like traditional strawberry ice cream. The green tea was succulent and a balanced end to the meal. My friend commended the mango (she also really likes mango in general). In general, would 100% visit again! Great place to bring a date to or a smaller group to. When exiting the restaurant and leaving in your vehicle, turning left is NOT an option, you will turn into a median.

Cute spot. Food has great flavors but technically executed weak. Rolls are often too large and falling apart. Nice enough people. Prices are alright for the area.
