Called on 5/4 @ 5PM to book a 7PM reservation on 5/9 for a birthday dinner. Drove 28 miles in rush hour traffic. Arrived to find restaurant closed. Call to restaurant, recording said restaurant was closed on 5/9. Arriving home, found telephone message, left less than 3 hrs before reservation saying the restaurant was closed because of staffing issues. We had already left. More than disappointed.

It's a very nice and accommodating spot! Hot food was hot, cold food was cold. The server and host were very attentive and professional. Food was very good in its presentation and taste, although I thought the food could use a bit more salt in general. The octopus was great, as was the scallop special. The girlfriend loved the crab cakes. Prices were on par with a restaurant of this quality. It's definitely worth a try.

We had a great dining experience at City Kitchen. Our server was thoughtful and attentive. The water was always filled without asking and used plates were cleared quickly. Appetizers, drinks, and main dish came out fast and were delicious. We’ll be back! Great for a local date night.

We hadn't been here for a while and were surprised to see how much the prices had risen. My wife had the parmesan encrusted whitefish, which looked good and was quite a large piece of fish, but it failed to have much taste. Her sides were nothing special, just spinach and mashed potatoes, which anyone can easily make at home. Altogether, this meal was acceptable, but a bit of a disappointment. I had the cioppino, one of my favorite dishes, and as it was one of the highest priced items on the menu, I expected something wonderful. Unfortunately, it was the worst cioppino I ever had in my life. There were no clam or mussel shells in the stew, which is how it is almost always served. The main seafood ingredient was breaded and fried squid rings floating on top - in other words a calamari appetizer dumped into the stew. There were also shrimp, as expected, but no other chunks of any other type of seafood, only small strings of something that probably came from some type of fish. On top of that, the taste was nothing remarkable. Our waiter, John, was superb; if it hadn't been for him, the entire dinner would have been miserable. In short, it is not worth the price.

This place has very good food. Atmosphere is, well, very grosse pointe boring but decent food. Unfortunately they are closed a lot due to “staffing issues” Whatever that means.

City Kitchen is the best restaurant in the Grosse Points period.. The fish is their signature dish.. especially the halibut (in the pizza oven) and the trout.I noted that they were closed recently because of staff shortages..Does anyone know if they will reopen?

Terrible food and terrible service. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your time or money here.

We came to celebrate my sister's birthday. The service was awful. We We sat and watched others arrive after us dine and leave. I cannot believe we were treated so poorly. I recognize many restaurants are struggling to hire and retain staff but what was disconcerting is that several parties received very timely service. So, disappointing my sister did not complain. I flew in from out of town to make.sure my sister had a memorable.and joyous birthday. You guys failed big TIME. We are still waiting for our entrees, while watching yet another party that arrived well.after we did leave.Mason was our waiter kind young man but not trained.

Food was good. Service was very lacking. Had to ask other servers for drinks, and assistance.

Just okay, nothing was bad but overall underwhelming. Expected more for the price. Good service, not rushed, pleasant ambiance.

I'm always pleased with the service and tasty meals here. This past weekend we entertained a visiting friend and cousin and amazingly the restaurant was so well staffed that we experienced pre pandemic service. They didn't miss a beat, the salmon, shrimp, parmesan crusted fish, spinach, bread, drinks and more were delicious. City Kitchen is a local gem!!!
