I often times forget that courses exists, but I'm truly glad it does. I've been here multiple times now and the experience has been consistently good. It's inside of the culinary institute and is more or less a classroom experience but I wouldn't let that discourage you as the students do an incredible job. I'm always impressed with the service, the generous portions, and the quality of the food. It's a really great way to have some finer dining at a reasonable price. Speaking of the food the menu changes fairly regularly based on the term, so you'll want to check the latest on the site before you go. It's all over the place, but always good. My favorite thing to order here is the coffee! They bring a full French Press, a few biscotti, and some truffles out as part of it -- all for $3! Give it a try!

This is a cooking school and boy do they know how to cook. Good luck finding them open, and Lord help you if you insist on sensible service, but the food is great and they will eventually get you things like: a refresh on your ice tea or catsup for your fries. Their focus is on the oh so tasty food so forgive them if they need a reminder on the other details.

I've been to Courses several times now, and each time it has been consistently excellent! The restaurant is a part of the Culinary Institute of Michigan and is actually run by students. Students are the hostesses, bartenders, servers, and chefs (of course with supervision.) The restaurant is open at various times during the year, so it is important to check online for dates they are open. Courses is open for lunch and dinner times. The drinks are delicious. I had a blueberry lemonade that was delicious, and completely made from scratch. We ordered an appetizer that was a pierogi. Oh, my gosh, it was SO delicious. So many flavors wrapped into them. I also ordered the small cream of mushroom soup, and it too, was fabulous. I shouldn't have ordered so much because I was starting to get full! The food is so rich and yummy that it is filling. I also had a salad and the club sandwich with fried. I ended up taking 3/4 of the sandwich home! A little about the staff ... they are really terrific. It is easy to tell that some of the kids are nervous, but they do such a good job. There is real attention to detail and flavors. One of the best meals I've had at a restaurant in Muskegon.

Everyone was polite ... but the food and service isn't up to par with the motif they're trying to portray even at a student level.

Having lunch at Courses is such a delightful experience. The food is innovative-gourmet: raspberry sauce, strawberry lemonade, flights of wine. Professor Chef Johnson leads a kitchen of students at the Culinary Institute of Michigan. He does an absolutely superb job of planning, teaching and supervising all of the cooking. Some students cook, others are servers or tend bar or the attached bakery. The servers are learning, but that is part of the charm. Diners can be part of the gentle teaching and encouraging. Share their dreams: to be a head chef or to open their own restaurant some day. Please note: Be sure to call for reservations. Menus and times may change and Courses is closed when the CIM is not in session.
