Love it! The Backdoor: the tacos, the cocktails, the staff, the atmosphere. Cozy yet upbeat. Feels like the place to be! Cool that it's a speakeasy vibe, literally, the restaurant is the "backdoor" behind D'Marcos.

Very weird place they choose to close at 10.00pm even though they say 12.am on Google . Turned away two parts of 8 and 4 . Just cause they felt like it . This is the second time, seen this happen .

It's a hit or miss. There is a reason why you will find such mixed reviews. Lower your expectations and you will be fine. The place and the vibe is good, drinks are great and they have an extensive selection of tequila. The waiter was super nice. The downside is that sometimes the kitchen will close at 9pm or sometimes at 10pm, the bar could close at 10pm or at 11pm or at 1am, there is just no way to know as it would depend on how slow or active the night is... so you might feel neglected or rushed at times or you might find yourself and your party having a great time until late night if you are lucky. Even if you ask the staff they will just openly say they might close anytime between 10pm or 11pm or later at 1am... so just come prepared with that mindset.

I want to preface this by stating I have worked many years in the restaurant industry, and so has my sister. From Chicago to Rochester, I’ve truly experienced the worst end of patrons not getting their way.Tonight, my sister and I thought to get some Margaritas and tacos at Backdoor. Neither of us had been there before but we thought to try it out. Night started off fine. We got a spot at the bar and the bartender greeted us and got us drinks and our food order fairly quickly. But that was the last interaction we had with her. From the moment we got our food from the bar back, we did not get a single acknowledgement from any of the 5 people working the bar. After 25 minutes, and witnessing one of the bartenders take a shot with his friends & fiddle with the TV channels and music a million times), we finally grabbed his attention, as he was the closest. I asked him if he could take our dirty plates and glasses as they had been sitting empty for quite a bit. My sister also asked for the check. When he came back he asked if it was even ours. Great question since our original bartender was no where to be seen. After I confirmed it was our check, I told him that it might have been nice if we had any sort of acknowledgment from any of them during our time there. His response? It was our fault because we didn’t speak up. Okay… rude… I could understand that if it was a huge bar & super busy, but we had ordered food & drinks and it was dead behind us. You can afford to pay a little attention to your patrons sitting there.Like I said, we’ve both worked in the service industry and I can understand a busy night, short staffed crew and too much on their plate. With empty tables & other groups being taken care of, this was not the case. A simple apology would’ve gone a long way, but he was rude & arrogant - which is hilarious considering the food and atmosphere did not warrant for it.TLDR; Subpar Mexican food & margs. Even worse service. Go elsewhere.

The atmosphere of the place is just not there, had a dive bar vibe but with expensive drinks. Drinks are very expensive for what they are, not bad but not great, other speakeasy bars are just much more worth it. Very average experience, gave it a chance but would not return.

I love this place!! been a few times and sit at the bar. Megan and Lauren are the dynamic duo and give great service. I highly recommend the shredded chicken taco and pork carnitas taco. I usually get the 401 or Blackberry Margarita. Both are great drinks. Will be back in the future.

This is a cool taco and tequila bar! Located in downtown Rochester behind D'Marcos. It is very small inside and fills up fast. They have a large selection of over 150 tequilas and also serve cocktails and margaritas. We ordered brisket and carnitas tacos prepared street style (topped with onion, cilantro and lime) and made it a combo, where it comes with rice & beans. I would say the tacos were a little dry and skimped a little on the onion & cilantro. We would try this place again, we liked the atmosphere.

A nice little place for tacos and tequila.Kid-friendliness: Not really kid friendly. It's more of an adult place.

Excited that there’s a taco option downtown - but the service is not the best. It’s as if they could take or leave you being there.

This was a horrible experience. While I lived my midnight margarita the great experience ended there. My brisket tacos were extremely spicy. I asked the waitress if the fish tacos were spicy as well and she said she would check. She never came back to the table. A female manager came over about 15 mins later and said no food in the tacos were spicy. She was very disrespectful and quite mean about it. She did not offer to get me anything else. We did not tip well as we usually do because the service was so unprofessional. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We ate here during happy hour on a Friday night. Backdoor might be the best upscale "drinks and an appetizer" place around. The margaritas are amazing, and the food is really good. All of the seating is very intimate and cozy, the wait staff is attentive and helpful. The seats along side the windows are great for people watching and hanging out. The only challenge is parking is tough (limited street parking) and there will almost certainly be a wait after 5 or 530pm. Love this place and can't wait to eat here again.

Loved this cute and cozy place! Service was great, the manager came by to make sure we were happy. We ordered the Dip Trio to start, then chicken, beef and fish tacos...and of course margaritas! There was so much food, the tacos were delicious! We can't wait to go back! So glad to have a nice place for tacos and tequila in Rochester!
