I used to love Shangri-La, after my experience yesterday I will not be returning. The servers looked confused when we arrived at 3:30pm, two different servers tried to seat us at the same time in two different locations. They sat us in the stained glass room, but in the booth under the T.V. 4 staff members just stood near our table and watched the T.V. while loudly talking about the cooking show they were watching. The meal seemed pretty normal until we got the food, which atrived incredibly fast after ordering. This leads me to believe the majority of our meal was sitting somewhere in the kitchen. The entire meal two servers stood uncomfortably close to our table and the moment we finished a plate they were hovering to grab it. It seemed like they wanted us out as soon as possible.I ordered an assortment of Dim Sum, each more disappointing than the last. To begin, everything was simultaneously cold and overcooked. The siumai and shrimp kau were rock hard and the wrappers were melting off the dumplings. The BBQ pork steamed buns were cracked and hard. Turnip cake was too soft to be picked up, we had to use spoons as it was falling apart. They forgot two of our dishesI will not be returning.

Very disappointing experience on Valentines Day. The service is terrible. Ordered multiple dishes, but they brought out two dishes 15-20minites ahead of the third dish. The dim sum orders were also delivered 20 minutes after the first two dinner orders were delivered and not fresh. No rice is included with three dinner orders. Had to request rice, which is an extra charge. The plates used to eat your dinner are small appetizer plates. Waitress only checks in when they bring out the food but not afterward. Then they add an 18% tip automatically to the bill. I don't mind adding a tip but not for this type of horrible service. Never going back and do not recommend this place.

First, I was raised in a Chinese restaurant in Ann Arbor, so I know my stuff. Second, this place is mediocre at best. The dim sum leaves much to be desired. The dim sum menu is small, and so are the portions compared to price. The regular menu is wayyyy overpriced. I know inflation is high, but $22 for a dinner combination of sweet and sour chicken is ridiculous. The service was fine, and our server had the usual bland Chinese personality. The food was bland as was the service.

What a wonderful discovery for dim sum. This is really the place to go if you need a fix for dim sum. We came here for dinner time so I will definitely check it out again on a weekend brunch hour. The dim sum menu is available all day. We ordered the usual and wasn't disappointed. Not as good as east coast Chinatown but close enough for suburban Michigan. Good enough variety and has all the obligatory dim sum items. We also ordered noodles and string beans from the menu and weren't disappointed. The flavor is right. We ordered a lot and didn't get judgement that we ordered too much for 2. Service is prompt and polite. Seating choice was good. Has booths. Would definitely come back!!

2024.2I've been there many times but forgot to write about it...^^;This is my favorite restaurant because you can easily eat dim sum at a reasonable price. I especially like seafood porridge. I forgot to take a photo, but the Sichuan beef was also delicious ♪ (not that spicy)Reservations must be made for 6 or more people.

We had a great meal for the 2nd time in a row so I know it is not a fluke. The wait staff very attentive. The restaurant was packed and had a wait to be seated (Chinese New Year). We didn’t know the significance of the date just had a craving for Chinese.

This is the best quality, most authentic, and most delicious Chinese food in Michigan. Period.I love Chinese food–soup dumplings, char siu bao, basically every kind of bao bun, etc. I also admittedly love American-style Chinese food staples like sesame chicken. I've eaten at all of the famous classic Chinese restaurants, both upscale and modest, throughout NYC, SF, LA and Chicago. All of that is to say that I know good Chinese food when I have it. This is hands down the best Chinese restaurant in the state of Michigan. I love their bao buns and soup dumplings (which rival those of Dumpling Time in SF), and their sesame chicken (which is equally good if not better than that served by Joe's Shanghai in Chinatown in NYC). If you want legit Chinese food, and are in the Detroit suburbs, this is the only place you should order from. If they are closed that day, don't get Chinese food that day and wait until they have re-opened to get your bao bun fix. It is that good. I really only write reviews when I am so inspired by an establishment's excellent (or abysmal) quality. This is the best Chinese food in Michigan and you must try it if you like Chinese food and either live here or are visiting family here.

The worst beef chop suey I have ever had!Tasteless! How do you mess up basic chop suey? Ordered here by mistake, I meant to call Golden Phoenix at the other end of the strip mall. Their food is delicious! What a world of difference!Do your self a favor do not eat or order from this restaurant!

I recently returned to Detroit from Mexico. Best Chinese food since I left 20 years ago. At 81, I've eaten at Chinese restaurants all over the USA and Mexico. Never had rice as an option, extra. Things change. Owner and waitress hung around our table. Made conversation difficult and uncomfortable. Took the joy out of my meal. It wasn't busy. Perhaps they had nothing else to do?8

Pretty disappointed. Ordered Szechuan shrimp and there were 4 shrimps total and a bunch of undercooked veggies. The sauce had no spice or flavor. Their lomein was pretty dry with no flavor.

Went here for Dim Sum. So good! I love the ceiling and glass walls in this place. The staff is very friendly and fast. We had the Chinese broccoli, taro, sesame balls, bbq pork, shrimp balls, etc. everything was very tasty and looked amazing. All of our dishes came out fast and together. I recommend the sesame balls, stuffed peppers and eggplant, shrimp balls and Chinese broccoli and the baked cream bun.
