I was eager to try out this conveniently placed rest stop on my long and arduous trip between Osakis and Alexandria. As I rolled my 2016 Ford F-150 XLT Edition into the parking lot and shifted the automobile into park, I was greeted by a wooden sign exclaiming 'Burgen Lake'. This left me questioning what year I was in, as any good Alexandrian knows that this rest stop's namesake has been referred to as 'Lake Burgen' for the last 50+ years.Nonetheless, I quickly scrambled inside to find a standard vending machine greeting me, along with a Men and Women's bathroom. I slid a crisp $10 bill out of my wallet, but much to my dismay the snack vending machine only took $1 and $5 bills.Alas, I ventured to the bathroom where I was greeted by a modern touchless urinal and an Xcelerator hand dryer, which worked wonders. It was obvious they had made some recent improvements to the bathroom fixtures.Prior to departing, I tried my hand at the beverage vending machine. Not only was this vending machine situated outside, it was positioned in such a way that as you face it to make your transaction you are facing the northwest. Being that the prevailing winds for West Central Minnesota are from the northwest, this seems like a questionable placement of said machine. With 25mph northwest winds on this January night, I received the full effect from this placement. This vending machine also accepted only $1 and $5 bills, leaving me high and dry. Thus, I was not able to stimulate the local Hudson Township economy.Overall, I would say I had an average experience. The vending machine shortcomings left me disappointed. However, the modern bathroom amenities, convenient location, and beautiful mountain landscape photo on the beverage vending machine left positive impressions on me.
