This was our first time dining here. We went for dinner on a Thursday night, and I was glad we had made a reservation, as it was crowded. It took a while for us to get seated, even with the reservation. Then, it took a really long time for our server to come to our table. Like, too long. When she did come, it then took a long time to get our drinks. We were told there was a new bartender. When she came back to take our order, my husband planned to order the beef stroganoff, and my son and I were each going to have the drunken chicken. It was only then that we were told they were out of both dishes. I feel like that should have been mentioned right away, so we would know that as we were looking over the menu. So, then she had to leave again to give us time to figure out what we were going to have. Ultimately, my husband got the butter chicken, and my son and I each had the vin rose pasta. We started with some salads and the cheese plate. The food was really good, and came out in a very timely manner--almost too soon between courses. So, a little mixed for us on this first visit, but the food was worth it. The ambiance is.....odd. It's like a supper club, mixed with a sports bar, with a little club atmosphere thrown in. But, it definitely doesn't feel like a strip mall once you're inside. Service needs a little attention, but food was really good.

We are from out of town and had dined here a couple of years back. Everything was great. Unfortunately this time not so great. We ordered the lobster bisque. There was no lobster in the soup and even without it, had no lobster flavor. It tasted like a tangy lemon-y tomato soup. The cheese plate came with pepitas instead of pistachios and plain crackers. It would appear that the restaurant is making substitutions. Update the menu or tell your diners. I’m now seeing other reviews stating these same kind of issues. Our filet sliders, brisket and meatballs were all good but it’s doubtful we’ll be back on our next visit considering how many other great restaurants there are in MN.

Such a beautiful relaxing Ambiance. I came in for dinner where I was greeted immediately by Linda who was outgoing and friendly and made me feel welcomed, I have never been there before so I asked what she recommends. She recommended the Chicken marmalade which was delicious, the rice was not over cooked like some places and was bursting with flavor . The Chicken was cooked to perfection and complemented the Rice pilaf perfectly, For desert I tried something new also by Linda's recommendation I told her I wanted something sweet she recommended the Italian Donuts which I was unsure about.. Life changing....almost like a perfect mini donut but it came with a whipped icing to dip in that I have craved everyday since. By far my new favorite place to go.Very classy where you can go have a drink and still hear your partner and feel like its your own private setting. The staff makes you feel like its all about you. I hardly ever rate restaurants but this place went above and beyond and the food is AMAZING. Highly recommend and I will definitely be back !

Cute place, nice staff, but the food is a disaster. We ordered burnt end cauliflower, butter chicken, sliders, & pasta with tomato sauce. The food came out scary fast…. Like 5 minutes. So that tells me everything was precooked and likely just heated back up. I would say a microwaved Lean Cuisine has more flavor. They also didn’t have a kids menu which is a big negative in my opinion. I would NOT recommend going here and will not return.Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly

I enjoyed the food quite a bit and like how interesting the menu is with a something for everyone vibe. The burnt end cauliflower was an experience I hadn't had before and was quite tasty as well arancini ball (let's be honest, the sauce is what makes it, and their tomato sauce on this was fantastic). The steak sandwich was very good as well (although I'd like to see some additional toppings offered on the side as an option).Unfortunately we weren't impressed with the service. The side dishes for our main course were delivered after our appetizers but before our main dishes for some reason and our server didn't appear before the main courses came out for us to inform them. Other than this, there was nothing egregiously wrong, but nothing memorable or good about it either. The ambience is the toughest part as the design of the place is actually nice and I really like how they put in the open kitchen, however, the place carries sound to the point that my wife and I had trouble hearing one another. Hopefully they can figure out some kind of sound dampening, but I think next time, I'll try to just sit at the bar which may be easier.I really like the concept and think this place has a ton of potential so will definitely be back but hope they can continue to improve as they mature.

For the prices, the food is very marginal. Jasmine rice was just white rice. The Marsala sauce was okay with canned sliced mushrooms it looked like. The smoked salmon dip was about 2 oz and served with Ritz crackers for $15 and the menu said chips was the accompaniment. The salad had brown edges on all the iceberg pieces. The atmosphere is extremely echo prone. Two items we asked for on a very small menu to begin with, were not available. I really was hopeful after seeing the reviews but I wouldn't ever go back.

Great service, legit drinks, solid appetizers…however the entrees were only okay nothing special unfortunately but still a good vibe overall and I wouldn’t mind going back!

The vibe, atmosphere, & drinks were 5 stars!Service was ok. When we arrived the hostess said we didn’t have a reservation. She was pretty rude about it, even when we stated we were apart of a party of 4 and ask if our friends have arrived first. Luckily our friends (who had arrived first) spotted us, and came and got us to sit down. The food was gross. It came out cold, soggy, and tasted under-cooked. All 4 dishes were just plain bad.If you read the menu you assume quality. I had much higher expectations that fell very short. There are so many amazing restaurants in the Twin Cities that have better food and service. We gave it a try and will not be coming back.

This is my first visit to "Kitchen and Rail". Very atmospheric restaurant with great service. The food that we ordered didn't surprise me, but Margaritas were good. ?

The meatballs lacked flavor. The fries are not standard hand cut. They have a coating and were greasy. The duck was good, but the rice was way over cooked and gummy. The frog legs were really good! Small portions for the prices. Service was great, and a comfortable atmosphere.

I would give this little gem 6 stars if I could :). Tucked away in a strip mall is the most welcoming restaurant I have visited in a while! Fun, eclectic decor paired with awesome cocktails, friendly service, and an inventive menu. MUST see this one!

Im giving it a 4 star review, but in reality it was more 3.5 star.We came for a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday, which may not be the best time to go but here was our experience.....Love the dining room and the atmosphere. The front of house staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered the french fries for and appetizer and they were amazing. The homemade dipping sauces....wow.Unfortunately this was the end of the excellent experience. The entrees were both ok to good (C+/B-). I had the flank steak and it was overdone and most egregiously cut incorrectly (with the grain) so it was tough. Also, the chimichurri was too spicy and lacking salt/flavor. My wife had the drunken chicken which was also under seasoned and lacking finesse. I also dont understand everything being over jasmine rice. It simply doesnt go with these cuisines, but thats just a nitpick. We will definitely try it again but unfortunately our first experience left us wanting.
