Disappointmented to say the least. We've been coming to Axel's for years as the food, prices, and the atmosphere were amazing. At our last visit to Axel's we learned that the menu had changed and many meals previously offered had been taken off the menu or what used to be included with your meals (e.g. popovers, soup/salad) are now completely seperate menu items and extra costs. In addition when I had asked to substitute my fries with a Ceasars salad, I was given a small tear-dropped shaped plate with an intact, half-stalk of romaine lettuce that was cut into four thick pieces with parmesan and croutons on the side. This was not the Ceasars salad I had previously had and had been looking forward to at Axel's. The plate was not even big enough for me to pull apart the lettuce to even try to make it into a true, mixed salad. It was as if they took the lettuce head out of the bag, cut it in half and placed it on the plate. Sadly, because of our experience we will not be coming back. Prices are to high with added extra costs and the qaulity of food is not what it used to be.

Unfortunately we sat for almost 15 minutes to receive service. Drinks took another 15 minutes. Dinner was served ice cold. Popover were served cold. Waitress blamed the kitchen. Manager was incredible and did Not charge us for our meals. We tipped the waitress and have full meals to reheat for for tomorrow. All this took 2 hours and 40 minutes. Very disappointing. But, the management understood.

After dining here for many years we were surprised and saddened to see the menu change. Prices are very high and I can’t believe you don’t get a salad (like you use to) with your $45+ entree, in fact the popovers are no longer served unless ordered from the menu.The food was good and cooked as ordered but I gave it a 3 star based on price. The entrees ordered did come with (2) included sides, but a salad was not an option for a substitute? Service was very good.I enquired about the changes from years past and discovered it’s under new ownership, hence the menu changes.Too bad, seems like drastic changes to an already well established restaurant. Sadly I’m not sure when or if we’ll be back.

They have changed ownership recently. We had very slow service, cold food, poorly prepared food, too sweet old fashioned, and a mouse running across the floor. Not sure what else could really go wrong. They did comp things, but it was a really bad experience.

I work in a memory care, and today we ate at Axels for our lunch outing. I couldn’t thank the staff enough. From accommodating a last minute change in our party size to opening the doors when we arrived and departed, the staff ensured our residents all had an excellent experience. They brought out a delicious looking cake for our resident’s birthday and he was thrilled! Each of them rated the outing 4 or 5 stars. Thank you Axels for making so many people’s day today!

Popovers with every meal although they were dry. Comfortable booths. Quiet, but a little dark.
Our server was terrific and the best part of the meal. My French onion soup was great, as were the French fries. The French dip sandwich was kind of a greasy mess. My dinner companions enjoyed their walleye and shrimp orders. The atmosphere was very nice. The value only moderate. We'll be back but I'll need to try a different entree.

My friend and I had lunch at Axel's and really had an enjoyable experience! The “order two” lunch option is great, and we both really enjoyed the crab cakes and seafood chowder. Gretta was awesome and made the experience more enjoyable! We will be back soon!

Very nice restaurant with an old school lounge style vibe. Steaks, Walleye, Salads are very popular. The popovers you get with your meal are INCREDIBLE. Friendly staff. Parking can be a hassle but not much can be done about that.

3.5 overall because of the serviceHadn't been in yeaaaaars, finally decided to go back for a date night.Waitress was top notch, very kind and on point with everything. Wine selection was pretty good as well.Food left something to be desired. My wife had the coconut shrimp and liked it. Nothing special she said, but nothing terrible.I had the sirloin steak and it was... edible :). I ordered it medium and it was still extremely tough. It lacked flavor and was overall, underwhelming. The mashed potatoes were fine, and the mushrooms were flavorless and thrown in what looked like beef broth.We both agreed we'd go back for a happy our or something as the vibe was nice, but probably not for a full meal.
