Read a review so we thought we'd check it out. Hard pass on this one. Street tacos were wrong - saucy beef instead of steak as listed. Carnita Nachos were fatty and greasy. Probably would have been better if I went plain. Waiter didn't know the difference between large nachos and small nachos. For future reference to readers - small can easily be shared between 2-3 people or as a large meal for one. Giving two stars for the artwork.

Most excellent margaritas and street tacos and we are from the southwest. Love the atmosphere and service would definitely make it a regular dinner or lunch destination!

My food was good, but it was also really expensive. My wife was not so lucky. She tried the Burria tacos for $17. It was just two tacos, rice, and some sauce. The tacos looked good on the outside, but they were mostly fat on the inside. One taco was completely inedible. It was just two, large chunks of tough fat that you cannot bite through. There was so much fat that the cook must have known what they were serving. He/she should have just tossed it in the trash. Instead, we lost money on table scraps and left hungry…and they lost a few customers.

Food okay. Asked to make sure no cilantro on order. Had cilantro anyway. A genetic marker can influence whether you're a Cilantro lover or hater. Julia Child hated cilantro. QEDIn the midst of the Mayo District and surrounded by hotels, yet you must check your to-go order to make sure you are provided with utensils and napkins.Too much competition within a 5 block radius to go for a second try.

The place was empty during the lunch hour, we were not greeted, we seated ourselves. Took a while for the waitress to come to the booth we sat ourselves in and she was not very attentive or knowledgeable about the menu. When we finally did order, the food took forever to arrive. There was no silverware at the table and we had to ask for ketchup; not once, not twice, but three times. The first two bottles of ketchup they brought barely had one squirt left. I also ordered corn tortillas to go with my Carne Asada. Never saw them. Seriously, how hard is it to make french fries? They came out soggy and I wonder if they hadn’t been reheated twice. We should have known something was wrong, when the water tasted off (as though it came from a well in the country). Not bad, but not your normal tasting city water. The cilantro lime rice was lame and the carne asada was not authentic. Rarely did we see staff out and about, and when they did come out of the back which was the kitchen area, they weren’t very engaging, friendly or helpful. Customer service was severely lacking. We haven’t been this disappointed in a meal in many years, especially since we took a chance and it was our first time in downtown Rochester. Do not recommend, and for people who usually tip very well, we did not leave anything. If we would’ve had a better experience, we would have considered purchasing the T-shirts that the wait staff were wearing. Because of the experience, that sale was lost as well. Very disappointing! This restaurant would be a fantastic candidate for Restaurant Impossible!

I had read reviews about Hefe Rojo before I tried it and many people remarked on how good the nachos are. They were right! I ordered the nachos with pork carnitas. There was ample amount of beans, corns, pork, etc. with no skimping and no dry chips. I also ordered a Caesar salad. Since almost no one orders this, apparently, the waitress had to confirm that it was on the menu! That was average, though.

A recommended restaurant that did not live up to the hype or just good food. Service was great and the lemonades were the best thing. My food was cold, not warm, and my sisters was piping hot. Avocados on her food came out brown and match the ones inside her burrito. I really wanted this to be great. I hope you have a better visit than I.

Fantastic Mexican food restaurant right in the center of town!! Great quac. The nachos are $5 and have an incredible cilantro pesto. The burritos rock. Service was just awsome. Love this place!!

Nice spot! Food was good, and they had a nice outdoor seating area. Service was good!

They use to have the most amazing shrimp tacos! Not anymore, what a disappointment a soft taco filled with flavorless rice with 2 shrimp for 6.50. Never go back!

Do not expect free chips and salsa here. It is $9.00 for what you get free at every other Mexican restaurant. The fried avacado is weird. My friends are vegetarian and would have preferred it raw.

We were seated immediately and then waited over 10 minutes before a waitress took our drink order. Then waited another 5+ minutes before drinks arrived. They were not short handed of staff. When we finally got our food it was very good. We should have left with the long wait.

Food is great! Staff is not. We were unclear of whether to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. When asked, they did not have a kind, clear or welcoming response. Service from then on was consistent with the first interaction we had. Unfortunate. Did not make our already difficult visit to Rochester any better.

We recently ordered off of their new menu and while the food tasted good, one of my friends and I ended up having the food not agree with us.We ordered the Elote Dip and Shrimp Tostadas. And while both tasted amazing, something made us sick.I am also sadden that you guys got rid of your spiced yam fries, those were my favorite menu item and the reason I kept coming back. I have had multiple times were I have tried to call in an order for food and no one answers the phone, waited a few minutes and tried with the same results.
