It was our first visit to 5 Star Cafe. We tried the Zilzil tips and Kikil. The beef in the Zilzil was very tough and difficult to chew. Based on that experience doubtful we will give them another try.

I ordered the veggie sambusa there was only one in the order for 3.95. Def not used to that price. Also i got the veggie platter and it was terrible. I only ate the cabbage and spinach. And the salad had too much dressing. Will never order here

I bought a veggie combo on Friday night 12-15-2023, this is not my first time visiting restaurants. This is my third time, but this time I had to write the review. potatoes was uncooked and why did it took over 20 minutes for a veggie combo to come out?

Are you seeking authentic Eritrean & Ethiopian cuisine where the locals hang out? This is it! The Ethiopian members of my family have been enjoying a delicious coffee or meal here for years! Did you know that the horn of East Africa was the birth place of coffee? (It is pronounced "boo-nuh" in Amharic.) Ethiopian & Eritrean women host an authentic coffee ceremony, where they light incense, roast the beans, grind, brew and serve the coffee right in front of the guests. 5 Star roasts its own authentic coffee- come try it! Traditional coffee is served like a shot of espresso, black or with a bit of sugar. I can only drink coffee with sweetened and flavored, but I found that Ethiopian and Eritrean coffee is naturally very smooth and sweet; there is no need for sugar or cream. We love the veggie platter, which is "Ingera" topped with various vegetarian wot, and "Doro wot" (chicken stew). "Wot" simply means stew. "Injera" is the staple in Ethiopian cuisine; it is a large, thin, spongy flat bread made from a healthy ancient grain called "teff." It is slightly fermented, giving it a slight tangy taste which compliments the spicy dishes. "Berbere" is an amazing flavorful blend of 12 spices that is in many Ethiopian and Eritrean dishes. For a traditional meal, a large piece of injera is placed on a serving tray and topped with the entrees, with extra injera on the side as needed. The entire party gathers around the platter and shares it. Wash your hands first; you will be eating with your fingers. It is customary to use your right hand to eat. (Why? In various cultures, as well as in Muslim communities, the right hand is considered clean for eating, while the left hand is considered dirty from using the toilet, even after washing.) You rip a small piece of injera (about 3"x3") and pinch it around a small amount of wot or meat, forming a ball with your finger tips, then put the entire piece in your mouth. Repeat with the various foods. Then finish any remaining injera on the platter, soaked with the flavorful sauces. Mango juice (nectar) compliments the food nicely. "Tej" (a rich, homemade honey wine) is my favorite, if you can find it. "Chai" (spiced black tea flavored with clove, cinnamon and cardamom) is also delicious. "Baklava" is a well-known traditional Mediterranean flaky pastry filled with chopped nuts, soaked in a honey sauce. It is delicious! They also have American fare and pasta for the less adventurous.

Wonderful service, amazing food, great ambiance! Came here because I originally grew up in this neighborhood over 30 years ago and a lot has changed. This is traditionally an immigrant rich area and because of it, there is quite a plethora of ethnic cuisine of a large variety. Highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates East African cuisine.
