pros: server was very friendly but overworked. She was doing cleanup and bartending too so twice I had to go find her at the bar. It was not busy so that was not an excuse. Made the restaurant look cheap to not hire busers and bartenders.Atmosphere is lovely.Cons: My almond encrusted walleye was over peppered. Huge ground pepper chunks on the crust and potatoes. Nothing on menu about heavy peppering. Asked for a new plate without ground pepper. Second round had less pepper on crust but more on potatoes. I gave up.Am sticking with the restaurant on Lyndale.

Kind of good but weak service unlike the Minneapolis one. Also the tomato basil soup was good but not as good as the incredible soup at Minneapolis restaurant.

The ambience is peaceful, the jazz music on loop is a nice touch. The food is always fresh and tasty. The servers are very kind and attentive. I love how versatile this cafe is. You can have coffee, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is the perfect place for any meeting or get together.

Such a charming, comfortable place! The staff was welcoming and the food was delicious. The menu has many creative and delicious-sounding offerings, and on the breakfast side most things could be made with meat or ordered as vegetarian or vegan. The menu also reflects lots of connection with local farmers.

First time here. The ambiance was pretty casual, acoustically it might be a challenge for someone with hearing difficulties. It was full when we arrived but the line went fast. The service was fantastic and the food was really good! We both had the breakfast burrito with chicken chorizo added and mochas. The food was hot and very tasty! We will be back for sure!!

I met 2 friends here for brunch yesterday. Parking is easy on the street or a small lot reserved across the street. This is a cute part of St. Paul for sure. We made advanced reservations for 10:30. We were seated promptly, but that was the end of anything prompt for the next 2 hours - ha! Service: slow and inattentive. We were seated in a booth through the restaurant and behind the bar. While the lighting and ambience is fine, both of the bench seats in our booth had broken springs it was very noticeable - it literally felt like we were sinking 6 inches down into a huge pothole in the vinyl pads. Our server was pleasant, however she rarely came by our table and we had to flag her down after 30 minutes just to place our order. I ordered coffee when we sat down, and after that never once in our whole time at the table did she offer to bring me more hot coffee or refill my cup. It seemed really disorganized because there were like 3 different servers coming in and out of our section. After we got our food she never came by the table to see how things were or check back until we asked for the bill. Also, there was a line out the door when we finally left so definitely a missed opportunity for this place. Food: Ok. I ordered the avocado toast with eggs over easy. The avocado was generous and well seasoned - very tasty! But the toast was not crunchy so it was like thick white bread, and the eggs were cold. One companion ordered eggs and bacon and the bacon was quite limp and fatty. My other friend ordered Cajun hash browns which she enjoyed. I would give this place a try again but only if I have lots of time and patience!

Wonderful! Our family went for breakfast on the weekend and it was everything we hoped it would be. Atmosphere is cozy - the space is inviting and clean. Service was top-notch as well, but the food was the star of the show. Everything was delicious and made with quality ingredients. They also accommodated a dietary restriction with ease for one member of our party. We somehow resisted the baked goods in the display case, probably because we were so full from our meal, but they looked crazy good! ? A++Dietary restrictions: One member of our party asked for a dairy-free meal and the staff accommodated that request easily without any hassle

The Kushi Bowl with tofu was excellent - fresh and well seasoned. We also loved sitting outside in the back and the excellent service. The bread board was a delightful extending-our-vacation indulgence last August.

We went for my daughter's birthday. We were seated promptly. But that was the last prompt anything. The service was absolutely terrible. We waited 20 mins or more after we stopped looking at menus before anyone came to take our order. No one ever rechecked our drinks, which took 15 mins to arrive. People were standing around for 15 to 25 mins waiting for a table when there were more than a dozen places to seat them. They were not short of staff. But most of the time, they were just standing around doing nothing or talking with each other at the bar. No one was helping each other. We waited 25 mins for our dessert. The food was decent, but nothing too special and nothing very French. The sauces were quite bland and unimpressive, nothing like you get in France. There are basic cooking techniques that you can use to impart flavor even when cooking very healthy food. This place doesn't use them. The few flavors they had were disjointed.Vegetarian options: Many options clearly markedParking: Free parking in lot across the street.

I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries. The fries were cold and limp when they arrived, the chicken sandwich was so hard I couldn't bite it with my front teeth, had to gnaw it with side teeth like an animal. The server kindly offered me a new meal, and I ordered the beet and goat cheese salad with sirloin, medium rare. It arrived fully rare, purple in the center, but no way was I sending it back, I wanted to eat finally. The goat cheese was nowhere to be seen on the salad, and since the server didn't come back to check on the new meal, I had to bring my salad to her at the bar to ask about it. She informed me it was hidden beneath the salad, and I needed to stir it up. If I needed to go on a treasure hunt for my goat cheese, it would have been nice to be informed of that as part of the presentation. The French Meadow in Minneapolis should be ashamed of their poor cousin on Grand.

French Meadow in Uptown would be straight 5 stars across the board. I have always had a great experience over the years. This time, I went to the St. Paul location for a pick up order. It was the most unpleasant experience. (Noting I've been to the St. Paul local many other times prior and wanted to give it another chance to revive themselves). I stood right in front of the barista station along with several others, waiting for over 20 minutes, making several efforts to get the attention of the staff. That whole time, I was in close proximity to the staff. I could see my food in arms reach. The only reason someone acknowledged my presence was due to a person behind me from Door Dash shouting to get the staff attention. I understand it was busy, and honestly, I wasn't in a rush, so I patiently waited. I felt bad for the long line up of people waiting to be seated as no one even addressed them (not even a simple hello or welcome, or we will be with you). There was so much confusion everywhere. The energy was really chaotic. That being said, French Meadow's food has always been amazing, and they have a lot of gluten-free options. I have been loyal to the restaurant for over 20 yrs but definitely will be skipping the St. Paul location and going back to Uptown for my orders from now on.Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free

Been to French Meadow twice now: first time was a bit of a subpar experience (had to remind about a coffee that never got delivered, then the coffee had a gnat or some other bug in it, and food was just okay except for the fries which were great) but the staff was very nice and I'd heard good things so I knew I wanted to come back. Second time was there this past weekend as a walk in - the hostess let us know when a seat yourself table became available as it was quicker than if we waited for a table we put our name in for. Food was enjoyed all around and I finally noticed all their dietary dessert accommodations! Dairy free and gluten free cakes?? Amazing little spot. Not perfect, not bad, but definitely worth a visit!
