Service was a bit slow, but the servers were very kind and knowledgeable. The food was excellent and clearly made with love, and the chai was divine! The portions looked a little small, but they were very filling.

This is my new favorite in St. Paul. If you like Lamb Chops you will love Chopan Kebab.

Khyber Pass just re-opened for the first time post-Covid, and I am thrilled about it. Trying an Afghan-specific restaurant for the first time, the menu was brief with great explanation of all dishes. The food was incredibly tasty, plus something new and exciting for our palate - as we learned, the fusion of flavors from around the region combine in Afghan cuisine, and that came through in each dish. Emel, the owner and our waiter for the evening, was kind and helpful. His art lines the walls, and his writing skills are also on display in the form of a well-written history of Afghanistan on the back of the menu. The restaurant had a great atmosphere - distinctly inspired by Afghanistan, yet very cozy here in Saint Paul. Excited to go back on a cold winter day to be warmed by the space and the food alike.

It's been a while, just getting around to write a review on our incredible experience here. Staff were extremely helpful & friendly. Authentic menu and everything we had was delicious. I'd recommend Khyber Pass Cafe for any occasion but it'll be a fun date night out.

Horrible and rude service. We waited more than 15 minutes for them to even consider taking our order. It was dead in the restaurant. We were ready to order within 5 minutes of sitting down. The server kept ignoring us, walking past multiple times, not bothering to even look at us, so we closed our menus to indicate that we were ready to order. Two parties came in after us and they were assisted first. The server walked past us each time to bring their orders to the kitchen, refusing to look at us. The same server walked past us AGAIN and went to check on another table that was already eating, still ignoring us even though we tried to wave him down. We finally waved down another server who told us he couldn't take our order because it was his third day on the job. He said he could get us drinks only, which we already had. He went to notify the server who finally came over and casually asked us if we were ready. No apology for ignoring us and serving 2 parties who came after us first. We said we've been ready and he rolled his eyes. They didn't even have what we came in for so we got up and left. Can't tell you much about the food, but can't be that good if this is the service. Also, I was the only person of color in that entire restaurant and the two parties that were served first were entirely white, so this tells you a lot about this place. Take your money somewhere else.

Do not miss a chance to return to the Khyber Pass Café. Having held out through the pandemic serving takeout, Emel and Masooda have reopened the dining room for dinner and it is, as always, like being welcomed into their home. The beautiful, decor and inviting atmosphere at the Khyber Pass reflects the fact that it is a family-run restaurant serving delicious, soulful Afghani food developed from generations-old family recipes. There are too many truly special dishes on the menu to list - the Chopan Kebab (lamb chops) are an unbelievable treat, the Daal a comfort, and the Murgh Kebab (chicken) I wish I could eat every day forever - multiple visits are required to try everything. But the Hummus - hands-down the best in town - and the chutneys go with every meal. The chutneys are magical pieces of art.The Khyber Pass has been an important part of the Mac-Groveland neighborhood for nearly 30 years now, and with good reason. There is no warmer, more welcoming place around.

The most delicious lamb in the Twin Cities! Had their Chopan Kebab and it was perfection.

Just had a wonderful meal. Service & food was excellent. This was our third time there and I wonder why we don't go more often.

Food was ok. Not bad but nothing special. I found the place from yelp and was looking for the special Afgan food. But it's more like any Arab or middle eastern food. They didn't have had any nan or parata.

If you are going to make people wear a mask: 1) you should have some to provide, not everyone has one. 2) you should wear one yourself.

The food was phenomenal. My friend and I ordered the vegetarian dish with potatoes and spinach, and it was life changing. I still dream of their sauce. And the baklava -- incredible. Cutlery wasn't provided (we didn't ask) so bring along your own silverware or order up extra flat bread to scoop with.

I’ve been thinking visit this restaurant for a year, but the pandemic impede the dine in option. We choose to takeout! It was fabulous! The chopan kbab was flavorful, and the murgh kbab was tender. The curry sauce are not spicy which is what I want. I definitely will order again! We were too hungry to take a picture before we finished them?

Beautiful restaurant, yummy food. Take note they’re currently to go only. And not open for dine in. Highly recommend

Incredibly sweet staff even though we ordered takeout in the last hour they were open. Meatballs and lamb kebab were incredible, as was the hummus and pita. But the chutney is really where it’s at. Mainline that into my soul.

Was expecting halal food for my trip in Minnesota but this place served alcohol, the man didn't reply to my salam. The food wasn't as I expected, it didn't taste as good as authentic afghani food.
