Food was horrible. Got the hot braised chicken wings lunch special and the chicken was old and very chewy. I got my wife the chicken and broccoli special and it looked disgusting. Rice was half cooked too btw. She said it tasted how it looked. I’m completely disappointed!

One of the first things I do when I move to a new place is hit up the Chinese buffets and local Chinese take out spots. I have met the family that runs the business because I frequent the restaurant every Friday night for some yummy take out after a long hard week of work. My wife says I eat there so much that she now dreads Friday night lol. They have worked in the Chinese restaurant business for 20+ years and truly represent what good Chinese take out in St Louis should be... I'm so glad it's near my house in Chesterfield. I LOVE the egg drop soup. It's got a nice balance of starchy thickness and egg white. Sometimes it's too salty and I just add a little hot water. I love the fried chicken wing appetizer. I was eating it when Att was setting up my internet and right before the guy left he asked where I got it because it looked and smelled so good... he went to pick up some for himself. Pork Fried rice is my favorite thing to order. It's got that smoky wok flavor. Good amount of pork and saltiness. This one is always spot on. There are times I've been and some things were too salty or simply just not as good the last time I ordered it. But if I average it all out I think this place deserves 4 stars. I've found these 3 items I mentioned to be the most consistent. Other things that I love to order are the big crispy fried shrimp that's on special, shrimp with broccoli, sesame chicken, beef chow mein, and the chicken in garlic sauce. Try it. Try it a few times.

I hate doing this review. Hunan Empress has been our go to Chinese for years. However, today for some reason they changed everything. The starters, egg drop soup and hot and sour soup was a gelatinous mess. There was something sweet in the egg drop soup, and the last thing I expect is sweet. The hot braised chicken was a doughy, tempura. The sauce was a drippy sweet, and turned the doughy to soggy. The shrimp lo mein was ok, but not great like it used to be. The fried rice that came with our lunches was bland and pasty I'm not sure whether they changed ownership or what, but they also cranked the price up. Almost like they want to clean up before people stop coming. This actually happened years before when they changed ownership, but they got things back on track after we waited a year to try them again. Hopefully they can get back to great food and prices. But it will be a while before we return to Hunan Empress.

First thing I noticed when I walked in environment of this food place is dirty. Did not give napkins or utensils. Some people are on the go and need those to eat their food . Fortune cookie was old. Food was bland.

Owner very rude bad food terrible

Placed online order. Received message that it would be received no later than 5:55. At 6:10 attempted to reach restaurant because order was not received. Phone was not picked up and could not leave message. Contacted grubhub at 6:55 and they ended up canceling my order and gave refund. No reason given as to why food wasn't delivered. DEFINITELY WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THE RESTAURANT OR USING GRUBHUB!!!!!

Very average. Very underwhelming. The food isn’t bad, just bland. Dry chicken, seasonless lo mein and fried rice. No official ordering system so you better remember what you order when you pick up.

Egg rolls were soft mushy and practically inedible.Lo mein tasteless and without sauce. Noodles were fresh, which was the highlight of my experience.
