The best restaurant in Saint Louis. The food is so flavorful. I tried the gnocchi and the tofu dish and it was the best tasting dishes of those type I have ever had. You might require a reservation and the space is a bit limited, but the staff is very accommodating.

Great upscale restaurant. The food was amazing and the cocktails were also great. The service was good but there was only one waitress for the whole place. Even though the place was small, it ended up taking a little longer for some things but the waitress was doing everything she could to keep up with all of the parties. Great restaurant for special occasions!

We had our anniversary dinner there last Sunday. Food was scrumptious! My husband said this restaurant reminded him of one of his favorite restaurants in SOHO, Hong Kong, which also reserved a lot memories of us together when we were in Hong Kong. We will definitely come back again.Short rib: slow cooked and extremely tender, excellent Asian American fusion with peas under and carrots.Scallops: love the risotto flavor with the scallops. That cabbage starter was typical Chinese restaurant starter , very appetizing. We love the desserts too, mocha brûlée, asked pear and that cake. All not too sweet but just right.

This food was amazing! The tables were a bit close together for my liking but worth it. Great place for vegans and non. You all MUST get the brussel sprouts! We were also happy to see they had a mocktail menu and the drink I got was yummy!Vegetarian options: Several awesome choices!

My girlfriend and I went to Akar for New Years Eve to celebrate with a dinner and some drinks. The staff was very friendly! Drinks were spectacular and offered a new variety I’ve never experienced before. The food came out quickly and was delicious! The duck breast was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be retuning for more!

Some of the best food in STL. Jason was a great and attentive server. Highly recommend the lamb shank, gnocchi, pickled cabbage, scallops, sake-poached pear, bread pudding, and matcha creme brulee. Thanks for a great night, Akar team!

Edit:I went back and had wonderful time. I legimately think that the last time was a fluke. The service was perfect tonight, and the food as always was perfect. Perhaps, the last time the person was just having an off day. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.I have been to Akar probably 10-15 times and the food is always excellent. The lamb shank is some of the best food in Saint Louis. It is for this reason that we decided to take our out of town friends here for nye dinner to show them the best of Saint Louis. The dinner was wonderful until I asked for a box for my half eaten lamb shank, which the box never arrived for. Eventually I asked if the box was coming, but was told it was thrown away and there was nothing on it. Now I don't normally like to dispute that, but I intentionally left about half of the meal to eat later. The waiter did apologize a couple of times, but nothing was done to rectify the issue. I think this was most likely a fluke as I have never had an issue before, but I was left feeling disappointed. I sincerely hope this does not happen to others, and was a one time thing.

The atmosphere is good with candle. The servers are very friendly. However, the food are a little pricy and very expensive. Also, the space is very small for one person and the table are very close to each other.

What a diamond in the rough!!! We had been intending to come to the restaurant for some time, finally did last night and were sorry we hadn’t found this sooner. From the service, to the cocktails, to the appetizers, entrees…the entire experience was wonderful, do not overlook this place. Well done AKAR!

Check out Akar for high quality dishes, top notch service, and a cozy vibe.I went to Akar with my family for my sister's 30th birthday. Many dishes were amazing, but the highlights were the fried okra, cabbage, and gnocchi. There were some many incredible flavors and textures. I can't wait to go back.I think Akar would also be amazing for a date night or a night out with friends. Just make sure to make a reservation well in advance.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the wait staff. The drinks were unique. The one i had, serai, was very good. I lived the addition of black pepper on the rim. The pickled cabbage is hands down the best I've ever had. I would order that by the bucket! The other two meals i had were mediocre. The crispy chicken was fine. But the chicken itself was under seasoned and the breading was too much. It distracted from the amazing herbs and glaze. The breading was initially crispy but began falling off. Id have preferred a lighter maybe cornmeal breading or none at all with a crispy skin. The scallop dish was mediocre as well. Everything was good until i got to the orzo pasta. Pasta was not necessary. It was very starchy/floury? The dish would have made a great appetizer if the lobster curry was lessened and the orzo removed. The mango/scallop pairing was great! The olive oil cake for dessert was very pleasant. Not too sweet. There was a lingering bitterness though but it isn't ruin the experience. Overall I'd try it again but try other dishes to see if the more traditional Malaysian foods are better.
