The food is ok. It’s a bit bland but the service was horrible.

One of our favorites in Kansas City! They have so many vegan and vegetarian options, all are delicious! We also love their fish options and the cocktails are fantastic. The staff are always kind and welcoming.

I'm sure a lot of people would love the food here but I was looking for comfort food and... A course sourdough muffin doesn't count

I’ll admit, we came at a bad time l - around 10:30. However the food was horrible. I ordered the cheese curds. The cheese inside was amazing. However their attempt at frying them ruined them. They were wet and soggy. My wife ordered the vegan biscuits and gravy. The mushrooms appeared to be canned mushrooms. The food here appeared to be made by a kid allowed to stay home for the first time making their own food. The best thing there was the bottle of Coke.

First impression was of the ambiance. It feels quite hipster and minimalist, which is fine if that's what you like, but each place you sit in the main area was quite exposed. I'm not a fan of this. I realize at breakfast joints, turnover is important, but still, I don't like it. The staff were super friendly. My waitress was kind and attentive. I was seated in a timely fashion and given a menu. Now, for the important part: the food. I ordered a salmon benedict, which was $19, and did not come with hash browns or home fries/breakfast potatoes. Fine. If you produce elevated experiences with the mains, I get it. Because of this, I chose to also try the "Morning After", which is a separate dish. The benedict: poached egg was overdone, more of a medium well, but the salmon cook was great. It was served on a bed of greens on each muffin. It's topped with a hollandaise. I'll be blunt, the hollandaise was bland and under-seasoned. The whole dish lacked flavour. The hollandaise was so thin that it just rolled onto the plate. It was difficult to get enough on subsequent bites of other aspects of the dish when trying to gather more of the flavour profile. I did at one point get a burst of mustard flavour, but this lasted a single bite or two. Finally the muffin. I'm unsure if this was due to it being an "organic" English muffin, but it was as if they did not toast the English muffin prior to plating. Cutting through it felt dohy and it tore under my knife as opposed to being cut. Morning After: this dish looked awesome when it came out. An egg scramble with cheese, veggies and buffalo sausage over top of french toast? That just sounds like a flavour bomb. I hoped it would be after my benedict. Unfortunately, however, it fell flat as well; the entire dish was under-seasoned and gave, at best, a whisper of it's intended flavour profile. The only part of the dish with seasoning was the sausage. I could barely taste the vegetables, would have guessed they skipped on the cheese and experienced zero evidence of jalapenos in the dish. Overall, it was better than the benedict, but for the price point...? I have had more flavourful, more robust dishes from mom-pop shops that charge half the price on a consistent basis. I'm overall quite disappointed. Irrespective of cost, the food was bland and mediocre. At their price point, they should be producing plates well above the level that they do. And for goodness sake, season your components!!! It's almost like they're charging for the idea of what they're trying to create vs the product they actually do!! I'll be searching for a different breakfast spot next time I'm in town.

A staple brunch spot for my boyfriend and I. We always share the Salmon Benedict and Potato Bowl add 1 egg & bison sausage. We recently tried the French Toast as well- no surprise, it’s amazing! It’s not cheap for brunch but the freshness and taste is 100% worth it.

We had 4 different menu items at breakfast. None were something we’d order again, and 3 tasted burnt or off.

Went for restaurant week on a Saturday. Service was lacking. I walked in was the only person there waiting for the host. Employees kept walking by and looking but no one said a word. By the time someone walked up to the host stand to help there was a line of 10 people standing at the door. Even though, I was literally the first person standing there, helped and seated two other groups standing behind me before even looking at me. Finally got to tell her that we have a reservation (which I just heard one of the other groups standing behind me say they did not have reservations) and I was told it would be a few minutes. Really not sure the point of a reservation on this day. Finally got to a table and then had to wait again for a server to bring drinks and order. I want to tell everyone the place was packed when we walked in but it wasn’t. I want to tell you they were short staffed but there were employees running around everywhere. Then in the middle of our meal had an employee walk up and ask us if we had made a reservation. Not to make fun but I felt like I was in La La land. Maybe it was just this particular day. I think they have an interesting regular menu. We ended up doing the pre-set menu. The first course the salad was delicious, wanted to lick the plate, and is the last salad listed on the main menu. The second course was a chicken corstata. It tasted fine. Served on a big plate by itself, Looked odd. I wanted to ask if that’s the way it was supposed to be served. At this point I didn’t have it in me to go down that road. The dessert course I did not care for. It was a cute muffin but not flavorful. I know it’s a boutique kind of restaurant and the goal is to be unique. But this day it wasn’t connecting. That being said I would still recommend that you try Blue Bird. The menu looked creative with lots of tasty options.

I stopped in about 3pm, so a bit early (but the benefit of getting lunch prices!).It's a seasonal, local market restaurant and I had high hopes.Unfortunately, while the server was friendly enough--the food was kinda meh.The eggs and salad were fairly decent, the salmon was way overcooked (so it was rather tough and dry and it wasn't as flavorful as it should have been) although the veggies were pretty good. The beet cake was interesting but they forgot the basil sauce until I asked--plus, it really needed some other flavors to balance with the rather bland cake (perhaps, rather than a dollop of cream, some vanilla bean ice cream and a bit of tang to the sauce).

We dined in here on a Saturday night for KC Restaurant Week. We've been here several times before and it's always been a good experience. They have a plethora of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free items at all times. We ordered a bottle of Malbec which paired nicely with our food. My wife had the $55 option with the sweet potato soup, stuff mushrooms, grass fed beef tenderloin and the vegan chocolate dream cake. I sampled all of her items (except meat--I'm a vegetarian) and I really enjoyed the sweet potato soup. I'm not a chocolate person, but I did find the cake quite tasty as well. My wife said the tenderloin was good, but it didn't knock her socks off. I chose the $40 option with the Blue Bird salad, which contains bleu cheese. I'm not a fan of the moldy cheeses, and I don't remember reading on the menu about it, although that could be my fault. For my second course, I had the vegan veggie loaf which has a base of black beans. It was tasty but came out a little cold. In retrospect, I probably should have chosen the nettle pasta, but I wanted to give the vegan loaf a try. For my third course, I had the chestnut cake, which, in my opinion, was the best part of my meal. I'm not a huge sweets person, but I devoured it! Our service was decent and Blue Bird always has a nice ambience to it. They have a nice wine list and a good drink menu as well. It's a great place for a date night or to take friends who have dietary restrictions.

Food is good if you catch them on a good day, however, inconsistent. Service is rarely good. Normally seeming absent minded and slow. I will only go there when all the other restaurants with vegan breakfasts are too busy.
