Finally got to try Summit Hickory Pit, which is surprising considering it's been around about 30 years. I found it to be a solid KC BBQ joint that clearly has a devoted following, and has fantastic service. It's very affordable. Much like many old-school joints, the platter comes absolutely slathered in sauce which isn't my preference. I love sauce but I feel like anything more than a drizzle means the meat quality is lacking or it's over cooked. The ribs are old-fashioned style where they still have the rib tip. The ribs are well-made but unfortunately, too much sauce to taste the meat. The chicken is nicely blackened but greasy and over cooked. The sausage is average and a little dry for me. The burnt end is not a true burnt end. I found the cubes of beef to be rubbery and not true burnt ends. The turkey was exceptional. Some of the better turkey in town! Sides were all very good but the stand-out was the beans. There's a medley of bean types with balanced sweet and savory flavors. Nice strands of meat throughout. Mac 'n cheese is gooey with nice flavor. Potato salad is solid as well. My recommendation would be to order the meats "dry". I always like to try a BBQ joint as it's intended to be served. The sauce is excellent but they just go overboard. I would go with turkey and beans and Mac for sure! Stay away from the burnt ends and chicken.

Went In for a late lunch, and had a to go order to go along with it. We had a great lunch, food was good and hot. To go order was on time and correct. The server (Ashley) was excellent, had been awhile thru numerous visits at numerous restaurants, where we had such good service!

I found the service to be very good the staff was extremely friendly and made you feel like you were at home. The decor is somewhat rustic but up-to-date very nice spacious seating comfortable seating. The menu is priced in accordance with the regional pricing of barbecue per pound I would rate it medium expenditure with an average price including tip of about $20 a person without dessert. The food presentation is very appealing the coleslaw extremely tasty. They have two sauces spicy and regular they have their own unique flavor at first taste I wasn’t impressed but as I continued to finish my meal each sauce started kind of sticking to me. I got a double meat combo with ribs and brisket. The brisket the Stanley sliced and lightly glazed in barbecue sauce. On the brisket I did not detect any heavy types of rub. The ribs are large and meaty and the amount of smoke on the meat shows that it was provided a good smoke ring however the ribs seem to be just a tad bit on the not so tender side. It’s my understanding this business has been an operation for over 30 years for that I take my hat off to them, as they must be doing something right in their community. I would like to add I did dine in during a non-busy time from 2:30 to 3:30 so I must take that into consideration in my review. Unfortunately I do not think I would schedule a return trip to this location

Waiter was good and helpful. There brisket wasn't my favorite very thin sliced meat, I like it about a1/4" thick and juicy. This was not that at all like that, it reminded me of a school lunch. I wish I would have tried the ribs instead. There pork was ok and the burnt ends were nice and tender! Others in my group said the turkey and sausage was really good. We also had there loaded nachos which was good. The building is nice and well decorated and there wasn't much of a wait to get in.

Been a while since eating here, but the wife and I had our valentine's dinner a few days early. The food is as good as anywhere. I however am not a fan of the coleslaw, because I prefer creamy slaw. I had the burnt end and sausage dinner, and it was very good. We also had the combo appetizer plate to start things off that was really good as well. My wife had the rib dinner and said they were very tender and good. The service was excellent too.

I can't really give them a good review. We got some of their food to go, and what we are tasted like it was prepared 6 hours before and reheated. The only really GOOD thing we are was the baked beans. Do not get the mashed potatoes as I'm pretty sure they use instant mashed potatoes, as it was super grainy. So I'd say they are okay, but there are plenty of good bbq places in KC, I'd say go elsewhere for that. Not sure why they have such a high rating on Google. Perhaps they actually prepare and serve fresh food if you dine in. But honestly, ours wasn't even good enough to keep left overs, we just trashed what we didn't eat.

Our first time to go. Stopped by for lunch and ordered the rib special which was $12.99 each and came with fries and beans. The ribs were heavy with sauce so each bite was gooey. Worse, the meat didn't taste smoked and was alternately tough, or fatty, sometimes I got a good bite. The beans were overly sweet so we didn't eat those. My fries were tasteless and limp; my husband's sweet potato fries were burned. Who would even serve that? Overall, pitiful. We won't be going back.

Service was good once server figured out I was there, but that took a while. I ordered a rib dinner that included fries and slaw. I never got the slaw. The quality of the ribs was good and they were well prepared, but the sauce fell somewhere between boring and tasteless. Very disappointing.

Plate of Chicken came out 300 degrees and drowned in BBQ sauce. Too hot to pick up and too impossible to not make a mess with a fork flinging molten bbq sauce everywhere. Separate time* Plate of “burnt ends” and sausage comes out (overdone beef cubes not technically burnt ends) I could fit all the meat in one hand…for $15.99?? 3 chicken tenders and fries.. $14.99!!?? I’m positive 3 chicken tenders and 1 potato cost the restaurant $1.89.

We celebrated my husband’s 65th birthday at Summit Hickory Pit. There were six of us, and our meals were incredible! We had ribs, the others had burnt ends and brisket. The cheesy potatoes are my very favorite. The Pit was excellent, and bonus - they have a boutique!! I purchased a couple of last minute Chiefs shirts and earrings. Make this your place for BBQ!!

Placed a party package order for my family’s Christmas gathering. Weather caused us to change days. They were very nice and helpful and took care of us. Great BBQ!

The service and atmosphere at SHP are fantastic! Our servers were on top of it and very nice. We had the buffet so I'm not sure how everything on the menu is. The buffet chicken was good and tender. The brisket a little dry but forgivable. I would go back!

BBQ was good. Couple of us had the beef burnt ends and they were lean and kinda soft but think they could have been fattier or softer, so we both thought we have had better at other BBQ places. The baked beans, cole slaw, and french fries were all great!
