Our waitress, Angela, was professional and personable. It wasn't very busy. Disappointed to see many tables covered with dirty dishes. The menu was pricey but good selection. Chicken salad on croissant was delicious, as was the steak sandwich.

We chose Cafe La Vie because we could get a reservation and the menu online looked tasty. I have to say that I was disappointed that a French restaurant didn't have a croissant option. I had eggs Benedict and the sauce was lovely but instead of Canadian bacon it has slices of ham lunch meat and it sure wasn't an English muffin underneath. It was bread that had been cut in a circle. The omelet my friend had was good. There weren't more than 10 people eating when we were there and it took a long time to get waited on and get food. Our server was very pleasant and once things got going it was ok. Not sure where the holdup was. All in all not $53 worth of breakfast for sure.

Just had the tackiest most over priced Easter buffet ever. The strangest ambience, in a random banquet room, loud club music, manger yelling to people across the room, literally terrible. The food was ok but everything else felt like if Kmart had an Easter buffet and charged Nordstrom prices. Major let down. Would never consider for a second coming back.

Café La Vie in Clayton, MO, is the restaurant located within the Le Méridien hotel! It has a chic design to it with stylish decor and versatile seating styles. The spot is a perfect spot for a morning coffee, a lunch meeting, having drinks at the bar for happy hour, or having a sitdown dinner. It’s a very versatile restaurant. They also have different experiences throughout the year such as the champagne and chocolate tasting. We came for lunch! We tried the cheeseboard which had a lot of variety in addition to the baked brie. The salmon lox BLT (hold that bacon) and the salmon entrée were both delicious. The salmon entree had a crunchiness to it and it was juicy on the inside. All excellent!Very pleasant dining experience! Angela took great care of us!

The food and cocktails were amazing. I ordered the risotto, and it was honestly one of the best risottos I've ever had! Our server was very friendly and personable but service was slow. But overall, great experience and delicious food/drinks!

I could have gotten a much better experience elsewhere for the same price. Was looking for new restaurant so I decided to try Cafe La Vie. Highlight was our server. She was excellent. Cornish Hen was the lowlight, closely followed by the mid-century decor and the low table/chair backs. Prices charged suggest a certain amount of luxury. Mid-century design does not say "luxury". This combined with the so-so food experience make me not want to go back.

First off, it was a HORRENDOUS experience. We had a reservation at 7P. By 7:45 all we had were waters. We saw our waiter once. Didn't even have a chance to order food. Will not be returning EVER. He tried to come back and offer us drinks for free to comp his horrible service. We didn't take it.

The food was very good, Our server did a very good job, considering the number of tables she was handling. When we made our reservation I specifically asked for the ability to order from the menu and not take the pre-fix meal. When we were seated we were told that we had to take the set menu. The food was very good, but we only had 2 choices on each course. Since we don't like oysters, we only had one appetizer choice. Having had filet and shrimp the night before, we really only had one choice for our main entree, too, without copying our previous dinner. I don't think we will go back in the near future. The open seating to the hotel lobby isn't our preference when having a nice meal. the staff was very friendly.

Was seated in the back. Waited 10 minutes with no acknowledgment no drink order. Walked out.

Our server was great! He was attentive and kind! The decor of the restaurant created a nice ambiance. Looking forward to going back for the full menu to experience more of their food.

I went here with 4 friends and we tipped our waiter his name is RAY 40 in CASH and he decided TO do fraud and wrote and added a service tip to my bill and my friends bill without us knowing and when I tried to ask for my original receipt the waiter RAY and the manger of the cafe couldn’t provide our original receipts (they said they didn’t have them) which is very scandalous and doesn’t even make sense because what restaurant doesn’t have a receipt log? You literally have to enter that information into the computer !!!! However when we left they were able to email us the receipts but the writing on the receipt wasn’t my hand writing and in fact the waiter RAY tried to tell his bosses that we was lying so now instead of firing Mr RAY whose been working there for 3 years the director tells me instead of trying to figure out whose lying ima just give you theTIP money back he stole off your Card so now I have to go through a process to get my money back & we tipped RAY 40 in cash just for him to steal 40 more dollars from us out of our bank accounts. As for food wise I had salmon and salad the salmon was dry as hell! And blend as hell the cocktails and drinks are good tho ! Service just sucks . You can really tell they been stealing from people for a while now !

My boyfriend and I went to cafe la vie for a date night during restaurant week and ordered the Boursin tartine, Cornish hen, and eclaire. We also ordered a Caesar salad, martinis, and the steak sandwich. We were seated right next to the server station which was not ideal or romantic. We were given water upon being seated, but it was at least 10 min before we were greeted by our server. Once he greeted us though, the rest of our service from him was superb. The app, salad, and drinks were wonderful. However, the Cornish hen was so cold. There was not a single bit of warmth in the dish and it had very little flavor. The dessert was also bland and soggy. My boyfriend enjoyed the steak sandwich. While I would recommend cafe La vie for their apps and drinks, I would not recommend it off of their entrees or ambience.

We visited for restaurant week. Food was mediocre but we had a nice time at this hotel restaurant in Clayton. Starter was basically toast with goat cheese, procuitto and tomato. Cornish hen was difficult to maneuver but squash puree was good. Homemade gelato was delicious. Bar area was lively and designed beautifully.
