I loved the place and the super friendly service. Would I definitely return to that place?

Normally I don't go out to eat but I'm glad I did. The food was delicious and the service was great. I don't really like the decor but that's just me because I'm picky. Overall the female host got us to our tables quickly, the male server was polite and helpful, even though they both looked young.

We had a disappointing visit to Canyon Cafe this week. Went in on the Sunday of Presidents Weekend. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes, no problem. They took my cell number to text when the table was ready. The restaurant had the appearance of being understaffed with tables needing to be bussed. We decided to get a drink while we waited. Went to the bar. The bartender was totally overwhelmed. She wouldn't take our order. She listened that we would like to order some drinks. She just walked away without comment. We heard from the others sitting at the bar that they were not being served either. This experience gave us a bad feeling about how the night would go so we left and went to near by Uncle Julio's instead. (See post for Uncle Julio's). I never did receive a text about the table being ready. Thinking we made the right choice.

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone still eats here. Absolutely HORRIBLE service and equally as terrible food. The hostess’ have no clue what’s going on and treat you like a burden for asking for a table or help with an online order. After waiting 30 minutes to place a take out order they’ll ask why you’re being so impatient and continue to ignore you until you leave. The little blonde hostess also has a terrible attitude and refuses to look up from her phone when being spoken to. In an area where so many world class restaurants exist, skip this place at all costs. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

This place used to be great! It is not clean, the employees are not friendly (like at all), and the food has definitely become sub par. In terms of cleanliness-the bar was gross. Crusty stuff in the cracks, the bathroom floor was disgusting. The bartender was checked out. We had to ask for chips and water. So unfortunately I don't think we will be back there.

Last review here from 2016 and now in 2024, I'm still a regular of this place. Every so often I get a craving for the Panchos Enchiladas and/or the Poblano Chicken Chowder. Most times, I can be seen having the Enchiladas on site with a to go of the soup. I really want to try other menu items, but it's super hard to sway from my classics. I have no clue how to make that sauce on the Enchiladas, but as long as they have it, you can find me at this restaurant at least once per quarter. Luv it, luv it! Seating at the bar is always met with friendly service and on a weekend or after work, you can count me in for a Limit 2 Top Shelf Margarita, no Salt.

Good food and good service. But you still feel like you're sitting in the middle of a shopping mall. The lighting is way too bright.

The food here was excellent, I can recommend the grilled tuna ? ?We did come here for a work dinner and there were 9 of us. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty, we were shoved into a small corner with 2 tables and it was quite crammed. Additionally, our waitress would disappear for long periods of time.Parking: Lots of parking available as this is at a mall

We order takeout food from local restaurants at least once a week, sometimes twice. Except for Canyon Café, the food has always been ready within 5 minutes of the requested pickup time. Here's our recent experience at Canyon Café. We ordered takeout with a pickup time of 6 p.m. It was a weeknight. The restaurant was busy - though nowhere near full -- so we understood the food might be a little delayed. However, we did not get our orders until 6:30, half an hour late. When we got the food home, we did not have chips in our bag though we had been assured that they were in there. Instead of chips, the bag contained plastic utensils. The food was room temperature, not hot, so we don't know why they didn't give it to us sooner. Because of the restaurant's proximity to the movie theater we go to, we have previously ordered takeout from Canyon Café on at least five occasions, and it has been delayed every time. The 30-minute delay convinced us to give up on them, despite the fact that the food is good. There are too many other restaurants to choose from in St. Louis.

I was so hungry and really looking for anything close. I was in Plaza Frontenac shopping and found Canyon Cafe. No wait and was able to sit quickly. Service was quick and the specials looked yummy but opted for something else. I ordered the Queso dip and street tacos. I went with Carnitas, Shrimp and Bison. Everything came out quick and was really good. The decor is cute and clean. I would definitely return when I am in the area.

I came for lunch and we were immediately sat. The service was excellent, and I decided to have an off menu item. The stuffed chicken was SUPERB!! My compliments to the chef!

Great food! Great service! Great margaritas! Great go-to in the Plaza that doesn't offer many food options.

The service was absolutely top notch! Our server made great recommendations, and was very attentive and helpful. The food was good. Not the best I’ve ever had, but very good. The chicken chowder soup was excellent! The only downside was the space. It was a very cold day, and the restaurant was also quite chilly. But the worst was the Men’s bathroom- it was filthy. Looks like it hadn’t been cleaned in a month. It really turned my stomach. And it was clear that it isn’t properly maintained because people actually drew in the dust on the walls above the toilet, telling me that it hasn’t been dusted in some time. But dust wasn’t the big problem- the room was really dirty. A shame for anyplace in such a high end shopping center.

The one downside to St. Louis' vibrant and exciting food scene is that you tend to forget the ones that have been around for years. Tucked in a corner of Plaza Frontenac, it's easy for Canyon Cafe to drift into the back of your mind, where you dream of frosty margaritas and warm chips and salsa. Tonight, I am continuing to work my way through St. Louis Magazine's best soups (and when it's only a few degrees above polar, can you blame me?) and settled on a sure thing: Canyon Cafe's Chicken Poblano Chowder. As the name implies, it's a creamy take on a chicken soup, kicked up with roasted poblanos and it's sublime. Velvety with a slight kick at the finish, the flavor teases something out of an old standard that is unexpected but definitely to be appreciated. As I read through the menu, I planned my next few visits for tacos and a black and blue quesadilla and I probably would have ordered a quesadilla for tonight, except I'm not hungry enough to do it justice. So that will be for another night. PRO TIP: If you're wanting take out, you have to either order online or sit and wait at the bar as was explained to me when I tried to call because the online ordering system was not working. People watching at Plaza Frontenac is always fun; just make sure you have the time.
