I’ve had some of their beers at some craft beer bars, but I finally had a chance to check out the brewery in person. This is a massive brewery with a fun bier-hall like atmosphere. They mostly make good tasting German style beers. It has German style food as well as good tasting pizza. Unfortunately, they didn’t have flights, but they do have half pours for some of their beers.

Enjoyed a couple of beers here during a weekend visit to St. Louis. Mostly enjoyed the sours myself! The food looked good, but we didn't try any as we were trying to explore as many new places as we could. Friendly staff and nice environment.

Urban Chestnut is a great place for meeting friends. I love the atmosphere, and everyone working was super friendly. However, the food was disappointing. I love pretzels and was excited to see them on the menu, but they were mediocre and not worth it. My burger was really good, but the fries were only okay. I loved the cider I ordered. I'd definitely go back, but it wouldn't be my first choice for food.

A very nice German style brewery in St Louis.

Really cool bar but got shafted on the salt with our pretzels :/Edit: there is salt in the butter!!!!! Second edit, pretzels are awesome.

Cool place to go with a couple of friends, not the best choice for food. This place is huge on the inside with plenty of picnic style eating. At the entry, there are lots of arcade games and a pool table ($2.50/30 minutes). They also have 2 posting lots, the one further from the door is bigger but it’s about a 2 minute walk. They serve German dishes and my partner and I tried the Brat Sandwich with Potato Salad & Burger with Fries. These flavors were new to us and not for our palettes. The mustard on the sandwich is strong & we didn’t like the sweetness of the meat. Potato salad is not good at all, left the skin on and it was really tough, like baking potato skin. The burger was just decent, not overly flavorful and not many toppings. The fries were deplorable. They were cold and tasted like they’d been sitting out for a while before we even placed our order. We really wanted to try the loaded fries but they were out of cheese and wouldn’t serve them.

Good beer and atmosphere. However, the German food I had was a bit disappointing. The schnitzel would have been better with gravy. The breading on the schnitzel flakes off quite easily. And I would have rather had mashed potatoes or almost any other side than French fries which is what it comes with.

Nice big space, lots of their own beers with seasonal specials. Good food.

Tried the zwickel and it was so bad I asked if she would swap for the German Pilsner. This is not just “bad” beer. Something is wrong with the lines or brewing process. Also, the person pouring my beer was on the phone and the tap was in my beer.Just get a can of old style and throw some roasted pennies in it and you’ll have better beer.Awful representations of two of my favorite styles of beer.

Although the beer was good as usual, I was extremely disappointed with the food service. I had to wait 1 1/2 hours for a currywurst and a brat board! I was with a tour group of 50 and we had a hard departure time. I had to package everything to go, and of course, the quality of the pommel writes in particular, were cold and soggy. Expand your kitchen to fit your space.

I invited my family on a brewery tour at UCBC's location in the Grove earlier this month and it was a huge hit! Adam was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, taking us behind the scenes and sharing many interesting facts about the brewery, their brewing process, and even the overall history of brewing in St. Louis. Fascinating stuff, even for those in our group who aren't big beer drinkers. We also got to taste several beers at the bar afterward, and Adam selected limited releases for us to try, which was a fun treat and got us out of our comfort zones. My group stayed for dinner and everyone loved their orders: the pepperoni pizza, chicken sandwich, currywurst, and barley bowl were all delicious. The bierhall is a perfect place to spend a chilly evening and we felt so welcomed by Adam's hospitality. Highly recommend the tour and tasting experience, or just stopping in for a pint with dinner anytime!

Truly great, can’t recommend enough. Massive space, proper Bierhall vibes, equipment in view. Impressive variety of lagers and other styles on tap and well-priced at $7/pint, which is cheap these days. Full kitchen serving some solid German food and a few American staples (grain bowl and chicken sandwich were delicious). To-go area as you walk in has some swag and plenty of their canned and bottle beers available. Their payment system is efficient, with a bar tab allowing food and to-go beer to easily be added. Pretty busy on a Wednesday just after noon and I can understand why. A neighborhood institution that seems to be a reliable community space and likely the business that resurrected this old corner of STL just south of Barnes-Jewish Hospital. If I were local, I’d be coming here weekly. Bravo!

Very lively and fun beer hall. Family-friendly with games like pinball. Obviously a great beer selection too. I’ve eaten many times here and it’s usually been great. The past few times I’ve gone I’ve been surprised at the service and quality of food - not always consistently good. The food staff are pretty inflexible on substitutions which is tricky when you have kids, and they are kinda rude sometimes, which may be due to understaffing or a gap in training.
