It’s been a long, slow decline, and I finally come here to ask: have we hit bottom yet, please god? I admit I come here for one specific dish, which used to be the best I’ve ever had. Their cheese grits here were phenomenal for years. Sometimes, now, they still are. Sadly, incompetent management and questionable food have left me disappointed repeatedly, consistently as I leave Broad Street’s breakfast in recent months. The lines to order moves at a pace glacial. Somehow, counter service seems a net negative on kitchen speed, as workers appear confused and generally disorganized. Anyone’s guess if the consistent drag is the fault of the largely septuagenarian crowd, these days, or the confused employees. I read that your tastebuds die as you age. Nonetheless, I guess the fault falls on MGMT, when you go this wrong. After placing my 10:50am order, the cashier left to prepare my order immediately, trying to be accommodating but ultimately helping no one, as the man behind me waited for someone, anyone to step up to the register for at least two minutes. I wondered the hold-up on slopping grits in a bowl with some bacon. She finally returned with the answer: they were apparently out of grits, so she’d been dutifully scraping the container’s edges to gather me a half-filled bowl of dry, gummy grit. “All we could scrounge up, I’m sorry.” I’d already paid, and screw it, but I go into such detail to explain in full one minor and ultimately negligible instance of incompetence because I doubt it’s unique. How many of these happen per day? I saw the fella behind me’s face sour as he waited for someone to take his order. Mr. Good, I beseech you, please bring back the golden age of Broad Street cheese grits. All this complaining to say, I finished my meal, and I will return hoping against hope my beloved cheese grits may be here again, served to me in a manner timely, generous, and warm.

Super yummy food with lots of vegetarian and gluten free options. Such friendly and helpful staff! I requested an odd food substitution and the owner not only approved it, it was on the house. 100%, will be back next time I'm in town!

The people and atmosphere were terrific. It's neatly situated in a bookstore which adds a nice feel. The food was not especially good and several items were not correctly prepared.

Several pieces of toast were burned. Ideally, it would not be served, and the problem (with machine?) would be identified. Scrambled eggs tasted fine but had a grayish/brownish tint to a few bites, maybe from cookware. Coffee is a little on the weak side. I would sit outside the restaurant to avoid noise level. Hashbrowns were good; cheese grits were also tasty.

Finally! Hands down the BEST cheesecake we've had since being here. 3 different flavors were tried along with the strawberry shortcake and all were phenomenal! We will be back and will also inquire if you can purchase whole cheesecakes for special occasions too. The service was great as well! Thank you ?

What a great place! Even if you just get a drip coffee (which was so good) this is a great space to be in!Took someone else's recommendation to get a coffee and explore around.Good food (we enjoyed a breakfast burrito and a blueberry roll with lemon glaze)Would highly recommend stopping by! Even if you're just passing through the area on a road trip, worth the stop to stretch your legs.
