We were pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem in Jackson, Mississippi!!! Gumbo, sandwiches, and salads were all so generous and tasty. Our party of 7 raved about the meal we had. If we had one recommendation, it would be heartier napkins. Keep up the great work!

I had the opportunity to visit the restaurant with my mother. The two ladies who were working that day greeted us with smiles, patiently answered our questions and made recommendations for menu items based on our preferences. All I can say is do yourself a favor and give the Mississippi Gumbo a try! The wonderful personalities in addition to the amazing food made our visit quite an experience! I can’t wait to go back!

Nick Wallace has a very different take on Southern Cuisine. His gumbo is truly unique, including greens, black-eyed peas, and Mississippi Grown brown rice. The pork belly BLT is amazing and a really generous portion.

I ordered the gumbo, flatbread, and sweet tea. It was wonderful. The service was great, too. The ladies at the front recognized that I was looking for something to try and made suggestions as well as offered to let me taste the gumbo. The owner was at the front counter and introduced himself. The place is clean and neat and has plenty of seating right outside in the lobby as well as limited seating inside. It's a cafe that just happens to be located in a museum. It's definitely not what I expected in a very pleasant way. I'll be sure to go back and try everything.I took a bite out of this before I decided to take a picture, but here it is.I've gone back and tried the Ramen Noodle Bowl and Penne Pasta. They were both delicious, as well.Holy cow! The shrimp and grits is phenomenal. I can't believe how good it is.

My husband and I’s expectations were beyond exceeded. I never expected to eat the best salad of my life by mistake!! We didn’t even plan to eat lunch here but we were so hungry and it was close so we went in. I had the chicken salad and he got the shrimp and grits and we both were so satisfied. The dressing and pickles in the salad were delicious. 10/10

We had lunch February 24, 2023 at this cafe in the Two Museums in Jackson. In a word, this food is terrific! Order at the counter and they'll bring the food to your table when it's ready. We shared a "cup" of gumbo that was more than enough for 2. Turkey, black eyed peas, butter beans, brown rice, okra, collards, and file. Very different and very good. My wife had a Cafe Chicken Melt. Chicken thigh meat, cheddar cheese, fig tomato marmalade, lemon aioli, on sourdough bread. I had shrimp and grits. Cheesy (but not overly so) grits, sautéed shrimp, tomato, spinach, mushrooms, and pork belly, in a saffron/mild yellow curry sauce. Also very different and very, very good. These entrees were spectacular, and both were more than we could eat. Negatives? I had to ask for Tabasco for the gumbo. You don't have to buy an admission to the museums to eat at the cafe, and we very highly recommend it. It's a very modern, open arrangement, with tables indoors and out, perfect for a nice Spring al fresco lunch. There is a free parking garage with an entrance off Jefferson Street, with an elevator to the main level of the Museums, where the cafe is located.

This is the best part about visiting this museum. The staff is nice and the food is amazing! It's a small cafe, but I guarantee there is nothing on the menu that's less than phenomenal! If you come at the right time, you might get to meet Chef Nick! Very personable! Will laugh and chat with you about his culinary journey! The average cost is around $12-$14. There are some items that's a little less and some that are a little more. Don't forget to try his desserts! The coffee cake is a front runner for sure!!Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options. I had a salad with blueberries and pecans and this sunflower medley that was so good I could've eaten it alone.Kid-friendliness: I brought a group of elementary girls! They all were accommodated and had a blast.Dietary restrictions: I didn't want any meat or cheese, and the staff customized my salad to meet my restrictions...for that day. I eat meat and cheese, but didn't want any that day.

Beyond Delicious and fresh. I loved the Shrimp Vermicelli. It was a perfectly seasoned creamy shrimp pasta with the warm lightly toasted flatbread. The MS gumbo was delicious too; I ordered it to go. Definitely will return to eat these and try more of menu.

SoundBias

This was a breath of fresh air with a cuisine to die for. I enjoy all three dishes we tried and loved the warmed up coffee cake, ad some espresso and I'm there everyday. Word up!
