Excellent authentic Mississippi pizza. Best pie on either side of the Mississippi imho. Sweet tasty dough, generous toppings… what’s not to love.

Just ordered a large Chicken Alfredo and 1st time ever, it was extremely dry, luke warm and the crust was so tough it would have pulled out your dentures. I'm so disappointed because I didn't want to cook today but it was beyond edible ? ?.

We're on vacation out here and chose this pizza place because it was highly recommended. We called and placed the order. They said it'd be ready in 30 mins. So when I drove out there to collect it, they told me that they were out of an ingredient and "Didn't make it." We ordered 3 different pizzas and I asked about the other 2, to which the girl behind the counter shrugged and said she didn't know. I had to MAKE her check and ended up still paying full price for what we got, with no apologies, no accommodations, nothing. Worse service I have ever had at any restaurant.

When theyPearl location first opened, we were SOOO excited! Our weekly Wednesday night dinner! The pizza was piled high with toppings and it was wonderful. Then, for some reason, the quality started to drop, and the last few times the pizza was either raw (dough) or burned. Toppings are sparse, too. PLEASE PLEASE bring back your high quality pizza so I can have my Wednesday night treat again! Salads are not as "stacked" as they once were. Dining room is always empty...mostly takeout. WE NEED THIS RESTAURANT IN PEARL TO SUCCEED! Understaffed

THE LOCATION: The Pizza Shack is located directly on the usually busy Fortification St. The building is smaller than you might expect, with a humble "The Pizza Shack" sign not much taller than the roof being your only heads up that you've arrived. The sign is difficult to spot until you're right up on it, so if you're cruising at a normal speed, you may find yourself having to turn around because you missed it. The parking situation is tricky to navigate. There's a couple of spots out front (and I mean literally a couple), but these seem to be dedicated as handicap accessible spots. There's more space around the backside of the building for additional parking, but the drive to access it is just wide enough for one vehicle. Take it slow. You may run into a confused customer trying to get back out the way they came in. THE ATMOSPHERE: The exterior of the building was splashed with the colors of the Italian flag. These colors continued into the interior. When I visited, what most likely used to be a dining area had been cleared of most tables. A sign at the register indicated that The Pizza Shack was strictly take-out only, at least for the time being. I'm sure this was an adjustment made due to COVID regulations. A TV tuned to ESPN filled the room with some white noise. The Pizza Shack is, for lack of a better term, one of those hole in the wall joints that you periodically run into throughout middle America. But please be clear that I don't mean that as an insult. It's very much meant as a term of endearment. Some of the best food I've ever eaten has come from such establishments, a sentiment I think all of us would agree that we share. THE SERVICE: I called my order in at the beginning of my lunch hour and was told to expect my food to be ready for pickup in 15 minutes. The young lady who took my order over the phone was pleasant enough. She sounded busy, and she probably was. Having previously worked in the restaurant industry, I empathize with any restaurant staff, especially one that's dealing with a lunch or dinner rush. I was punctually at the restaurant 15 minutes later, and as promised, my order was ready to go. Judging by her voice, the same young lady that took my order helped me pay my bill and sent me on my way. In a word, the whole process was efficient, and efficiency is the best compliment that can be paid to the service of a restaurant. I was very pleased with how orderly things seemed to run. THE FOOD: My order was simple: a small pepperoni pizza. The Pizza Shack had a very elaborate spread of specialty pizzas on its menu, from "Chicken Curry Delight" to "Italian Cowboy," but maybe the best way to judge a new pizza experience is to see how they handle the basics. If they couldn't handle a pepperoni pizza, I would have assumed that everything else would only "go downhill from there." Thankfully, The Pizza Shack not only "handled" my pepperoni pizza, they blew it out of the water. My pizza was delicious. The crust crisped very nicely around the perimeter of the pie, only to taper into a flakier, foldable center. The majority of the pepperonis were baked underneath the cheese, which made for pepperonis that didn't shrivel underneath the oven heat. My suspicion is that this also aided in the flavor of the sauce, but that may just be conjecture on my part. The sauce exploded with flavor and made me want to take another bite before I was done with the first one. The cheese exemplified the gooey, perfectly browned topping of any successful pizza. To be clear, this pizza was not "just okay" or "fine." This pizza was very good. THE BOTTOM LINE: It became a bit more clear to me why The Pizza Shack was recently named as Best Pizza in Jackson by the Jackson Free Press. If you find yourself in the Jackson area, do yourself a favor and patronize this business. Make things easier on the staff and on yourself by calling in your order ahead of time, and enjoy some delicious pizza. This "ho
