So, we booked here 4 weeks in advance based on recommendations from friends. In summary; lovely space, limited food and wine menu, excellent service. Probably would come back. Really pretty and lively space but our table location was in the middle of the restaurant. Not ideal but they are limited on space and I get it. We ordered the shrimp and grits, chicken and dumplings and Lamb meatballs. Our food came out 3 minutes after we ordered (not sure if that was good or bad). The food was was just ok. Chicken and dumplings was over seasoned with way too much garlic. Not how my wife's grandmother would make them. Same for the shrimp and grits (why cover the dish in mushrooms? Didn't make sense). Lamb meatballs were delicious, and so were the fries. $36 for shrimp and grits in Mississippi is a travesty, particularly when they weren't that good. Chocolate cake and bread pudding were average. Awesome waitress. Loved her.

If you are wanting a piece of Oxford history, this is your place, in business for 30+ years. Wait staff was amazing and Bella was not wrong on the dishes that she recommended. My husband and I ordered a salad to split and then each had our own entree, it was definitely the way to go to not be to full. Looking forward to trying different dishes next time (maybe)

You will hear great things about this place and they are all deserved. Food is excellent, service is excellent and it's a great ambience. I was really looking forward to eating there and now I'm already looking forward to going back.

We were seated immediately. The French 75's are the best in town. Service was prompt. They had several delicious non-meat selections (Lent), which pleased us. The pear and arugula salad was delicious, as was the cheese and pickles plate. My friend ordered the shrimp-n-grits and the server even offered to have the bacon omitted. I had the seared tuna. It was beautifully seared and perfect atop the Mole' (which was amazing - although a bit too spicy for my taste). The crème brûlée was decent. I would have liked a little more of the brûlée. It lacked the crispy snap from the spoon but the taste was really good.

Loved the food here!! We got the surf and turf special with a filet & shrimp skewer and manicotti. Both were amazing and the service was one of the best in town. We ended the night with a creme brûlée and it was also delicious

Always the best service and food. We love Terry Moon to the core and when I couldn't decide what to eat, he surprised me! Love this place and this town. We will always be back!!! I had the shepard's pie and husband had the filet. Both were amazing. The absolute highlight was the lemon crème brûlée.

We were seated promptly at our reservation time. We were given menus but no wine list. Had to ask for that. Noticed other tables had cocktail menu, but were not given one either. We have been to the City Grocery several times. This was the first time seated at a table in the aisle. We were constantly being bumped into by staff. The chairs were very uncomfortable also. We were very disappointed with this experience.

We had a delicious dinner at CG. We had two appetizers - the lamb meatballs and pickle and cheese plate - which were as good as we've ever had. Each of us had a different entree and they were also amazing. There is a great mix on the current menu of southern dishes and seafood options.

We enjoyed lunch here and were pleased with the mildly creative take on classic southern dishes. The hoppin’ john cakes were delicious, the sauce on the flash fried catfish was both slightly sweet and spicy. And the cornbread was perfect.

The waitstaff was lovely & attentive, including manager. Drinks were excellent. The shrimp & grits were excellent, as always. Sadly, no seafood specials this time. The beef/pork dishes tend to be very rich. Upstairs bar was amazing—loved the bartenders!

Shrimp and Grits ... The best I've ever eaten. My bride had Salmon and it was perfectly cooked and so tasty. The service was excellent and after the chocolate cake dessert, we ordered the panna cotta too. What a night!

The Hostess always has a friendly welcome and once you are seated the great service immediately begins. Water glasses filled and the incredible corn muffins are served. The server described all menu items and the food as always were awesome!!. Do not hesitate to go to City Grocery. Our favorite place to dine in Oxford.

We had a wonderful meal with great service and reminders of the many years we enjoyed City Grocery when my father-in-law brought us here so many times. We now live in Houston, Texas and make City Grocery a must when we visit Oxford.
