Neatly tucked away off the street with great outdoor area. Love the antiques on display and our waitress was a very friendly person. Who took care of us. Breakfast was great and orange juice was freshly squeezed and menu was extensive along with great espresso
If you are staying in Missoula, MT or just passing through, this is a great breakfast restaurant in downtown Missoula. This restaurant is in an older downtown building which seems to have plenty of architecture and history. We had a typical breakfast meal and received great service although the waitress stated this was her first day. It like this restaurant will either be gone or changing owners based on some of the TripAdvisor reviews, but hopefully that won't change their menu or service.
The food was good but we waited over an hour.. the server was sweet and took our drinks off the bill. Highly recommend sitting outside! Very cute atmosphere.
Walked in at 11am on a Saturday morning. Was told it would be a 25-30min wait. We waited 30min and they seated the 4 of us. The first staff member brought us water right away. A few minutes later our waitress came by and introduced herself and asked if we wanted anything else to drink besides water. The entire front page of the menu is all alcoholic beverages. When I asked to order a mimosa, the waitress informed me that they sold their liquor license 2 months ago. I’m curious as to why the entire front page of the menu still advertises alcohol if they no longer sell any? There were no signs in or outside the restaurant that informed me as a customer of this change. The waitress left our table and said she would be back shortly to take our orders. She came back promptly and we ordered our food. We sat and waited for an hour and 12 minutes. Our waitress had come by once in that time and said “oh you haven’t gotten your food yet?” Why didn’t my waitress know when my food was arriving at my table? Isn’t that their entire job? I asked another employee walking by if she could check on our food. A little while had passed and our original waitress came back and said “Sorry, your order ticket got lost. Do you want me to ring it in for you now?” I said no I’m not waiting any longer and I left. Very very disappointed in the service. At least 5 other employees passed near our table within that hour and didn’t think to check on us. Probably won’t be going back.
Our weekend place. Always amazing service and delicious food. I recommend the blueberry buckle. I get it everytime without fail!
This is the breakfast that you wake up for. This place is a Missoula landmark and we were told to check it out. The atmosphere is very comfy, like you are at Grandma's house. Friendly service, waiter knew the menu and gave suggestions. The coffee was hot and fresh. I ordered the banana bread french toast, as suggested. My man crush went with a traditional egg, bacon breakfast with hash browns. Take a look at my french toast picture, it may look plain or not very fancy - IT WAS AMAZING! Who would've thought of banana bread as french toast? Mind blown. You have to order it. Will be back...thank you The Shack!
Mimosas at The Shack used to be a thing. Not this Saturday. Thankfully, we weren't hung over and needing them. The Shack has been up for sale since before COVID so it makes sense that they sold their $$$$ liquour license to hang on/make some money back. It was probably an all-beverage license (including beer and wine) because there was no beer-mosa version. There was COVID wait time (outside) for an open table and COVID seating inside. The food is still the same - huevos rancheros and the 147th buffalo pie since the 1990's. :-) Staff were attentive and orders were quick. If you enjoyed The Shack, go eat there while they are still open. If you don't, your will regret not having done so. This will be another Missoula place whose absence will change downtown.
The food was pretty good. Pricey. The decor and ambience are extremely dated.
My boyfriend and I go here almost every weekend. Prices are great, food is delicious. The blueberry buckle is probably my favorite item.
Great chicken fried steak.
The Shack is a great little place. Cute, great coffee, fresh ingredients and a mellow atmosphere. I think they may have changed the preparation of a few mainstays on their menu. They should definitely go back to the original way of making their sautéed veggies and browns (used to be the #12) I couldn’t resist them. The banana French toast is amazing, omelettes are original and the service is always top notch.
Great service and food! Enjoy!
Came to the Shack because of other reviews. I could not be more disappointed. I get the COVID thing, but don’t treat me like a leper. Service was a ZERO. Breakfast Huevos Rancheros were some of the worst I’ve had. This place is way overrated.
As the title says, words absolutely cannot describe how disappointing this experience was for myself and my family. We decided to eat here as we remembered really enjoy the food here a few years back. I am not sure if my memory failed us. ALL of our food was bland and tasteless. The bacon in my sons burrito was as hard as a rock. The egg whites that came with the chicken fried stake were raw. When we mentioned it to the waitress said “that’s just how they come”, runny yolks a
