This place makes an excellent martini (with blue cheese olives). It's a cool environment, somewhat crowded, but the busy-ness adds to the appeal. I think they shine more in cocktails than in food. The burger is made with American cheese, to its detriment. Burrata was good, and the table tried some small Spanish-style fish. We had another OK pasta dish as well. Less likely to return for a meal but happy to come for drinks + apps.

We’ve had multiple lovely experiences at Tall John’s from after school snacks, multi course date nights, and bigger family special occasions. The staff has always been attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. We love watching the open kitchen and appreciate the consistent waitstaff and chefs. The specials are always top notch. We will return many times! Every time we eat there, we are well cared for and well nourished, but more importantly we see how their model genuinely supports their kitchen staff which really sets them apart from so many others. This place is a true gem for the neighborhood and Asheville at large.
