Don’t worry ! You can drive almost to the summit ❣️ interactive museum and gift shop both are worth stopping in. You could spend hours in the museum with so much information about North Carolina’s tallest mountain. The gift shop husband and wife team were the most helpful on a cold day, they didn’t stop till we found a hoodie for a cold hiker. Thank you! The snack and sandwich bar was manned by the owner of our campsite! (Surprise)It’s a short walk to the summit and the views are worth it.❣️

A few trails to hike and a paved one to go to the peak of Mount Mitchell. The tallest peak on the East Coast. The gift shop was cash only, so make sure you have cash. Their wire was cut by accident 2 weeks ago and it had not been fixed. So to be on the safe side bring cash for souvenirs. The snack shop was working on another line so they still took credit cards. The burial place of Mr. Mitchell is at the peak of the mountain.

Seems the restaurant has been closed for a while. I had to call to find out, because it looks like according to the website, it is open. The guy on the phone says to check the website???????? I did,,,,looks like its open. It isn't and may not open til next year, 2024.

Trout cooked perfectly and deboned right at the table. Dining in the clouds with awesome panoramic views and the best peach cobbler I’ve ever tasted.

Appears closed since COVID-19 started. It's all boarded up and surrounded by fences . So sad we had to drive up there to find this out.

Let's put it this way, if you're driving to the top of Mount Mitchell to go to the restaurant at the top, you're doing it wrong...

Can't really rate it because it wasn't even open. Tried coming in early April but apparently they're only open May through October and this isn't clearly explained anywhere until you drive through the mountains for 45 minutes and see on the sign for the state park that it's May-October.TLDR: DO NOT plan on coming here if it's November-April

Always a great place to spend some time. Except for the park police officer with the extremely bad attitude.

I am sure its supposed to be good, but unfortunately it is closed. Please, update the information on the google.

We usually eat here at least once when staying at the campground. Great atmosphere and service. I wouldn’t make a special trip just for the food, but it’s OK.

The best view going for a restraunt. Closed in the winter. Friendly local staff. The menu has something for everyone and the food is good.

The food was really, really good. If just based on the food this rating would be 5 stars. However literally every other category is 1 star or less. Maybe it was just a bad day. But the servers were so disinterested. The tables were filthy. The hostess was flat out rude. So I would like to give this place another shot to see if this changes but for now my review stands.

The food was really good, the staff was very friendly and the view was great! It is worth the drive even if you don’t make it to the summit.

I want to give this a higher score. On the one hand these servers travel at least 25 miles to get here.On the other hand outside of the views it’s a very bland restaurant. I spent most of my time waiting; first for my food, then for a refill. The server was attentive but clearly over worked and stressed which was evident by the attitude that she had towards customers. The service was not bad just rushed and non- personal. The food was okay but I got a BLT below and it cost 10 dollars and came with one packet of Mayo this made the sandwich oh very drive. Add this to one napkin and the excessive use of styrofoam (bowls, cups, containers) and it almost has a hotdog stand feel.Lastly 1/2 of the drink was ice which added to the wait time and made eating the fries which were not completely poked challenging. As I mentioned above I want to give this a higher score because it’s views, environment and potential are unreal but the hotdog stand feeling needs to go.Side tip: if your going to buy drinks buy the Water bottle it’s $2 and is cheaper than buying a bottle of water and is very durable.
