J Tops was the caterer for our wedding and made our day so easy. John was easy to communicate with and the food was great as always! Our guests raved all night and we’re glad to have been able to share our favorite BBQ with our friends and family!

Staff didn’t really seem to their menu very well; for example, I was told I was getting baby back ribs but the ribs I received were definitely St. Lewis which matters a lot to me. That would’ve been fine if the food had actually been good. All the meats tasted like they were cooked in bulk and then cooled and reheated which may be cost effective, but it significantly reduces the quality. The ribs were so tough you that they were hardly edible. Overall, I was disappointed.

John catered a dinner for our church for almost 200 people and it was seamless- everything from communication to delivery and set up. Food was phenomenal. Highly recommend!

Ordered on Grubhub. Not a fan. Left an item out of our order. Ribs were bland. Potato salad had way too much mustard. Brunswick stew wasn't very good either. Not hating on the place but I've had better off of my Recteq smoker. Will not be eating there again.

This is the place for great meats and equally awesome sides! Great location in Clayton, definitely worth the trip! We've also enjoyed their catering a few times and they always deliver great food and service. Try that Mac n cheese!

Stay away!!!! If I could give zero stars I would. This was bottom 3 worst bbq I've had In my life. I feel like I was robbed. The fact that all I saw was teenagers working should have given it away. The sides were THE worst I've EVER had. The "BBQ potato's" were literally some canned potato's with bbq sauce on them. I was blown away. The Mac and cheese was grisly, greasy and dry, also blown away. The Brunswick stew was as sweet as a bad dessert. The fried okra was clearly straight out of a freezer and the worst version of restaurant supply store subpar garbage. I spent $60 and literally nothing was good, most was bad and very little was okay. The hushpuppies were almost good but greasy. I could have let them pass, were it not for the grey brisket staring at me with a dollop of vinegar, perpetuating as BBQ sauce. I genuinely don't think they care. Do not eat here if you like bbq, or your money. In fairness, the sausage was okay, but it's sausage. The brisket was also okay, but that sauce! This is probably very mean but I said what I said, because I felt how I felt.

This was a real treat! The burnt ends are the absolute best! Don't know how to say it any clearer.

This is a pretty nice small BBQ shop that provides some pretty good BBQ, excellent service, and a nice atmosphere. The prices are seem to be around the prevailing price for this area. The sugar custard of the pecan pie is, surprisingly, not overly sweet. Though it is quite sweet. The smoked sausage was well cooked with a very nice smoke flavor, crispy casing, and juicy. The collard greens have a hint of sweetness, no bitterness, and a nice counterpoint to the crispy hushpuppies. I liked the brisket, though a touch on the dry side, it had a delicious char, was tender and complimented their house sauce superbly. The BBQ potatoes were the only thing that I was not the biggest fan of. I have seen it on other NC BBQ menus, but this was the first try so I don't have much to compare with. It is peeled sliced potato that has been cooked, almost to mash, in a sauce that is kind of like red hot sauce. It very much made me think of scalloped potatoes that replaced the cheese with Texas Pete/Louisiana Hot Sauce. Tasted Ok, though.Very much enjoyed my dinner and the the serving staff were friendly and quick to offer assistance.

J Tops catering is a rating of 10 with good quality, taste, service and economical! Nothing but compliments from the 200 guests at my daughter’s wedding. The charcuterie table was also wonderful during the cocktail hour!
