Food was delicious and portions are hugeeeee. Plates were $25 (entree plus 2 sides). I got stew beef over rice, mac, and cabbage. Be prepared to wait in line. We probably waited an hour and a half. The food was worth it though. We will definitely return. If you're looking for quality soul food, you'll really enjoy the food here.

I've been trying to experience this for a while, and finally did it last night! The line was wrapped around the building 30 minutes before they opened. The food did not disappoint and came out quickly. I did have a little sticker shock, but the quality of the food took care of that. Definitely not an every week spot for me, but maybe once a month as a treat because I like to cook at home.

Do not pre order with the promise of a staggered pick up its a lie everyone pick up at the same time and it's later than the time posted. The over priced and over seasoned food ain't worth the drama or wait

Every time I go, the line is wrapped around the building. It is worth the wait though. You always get a generous portion of food...enough to last a couple of days! The taste/flavor is consistently good....always a hit! Once, I got the steak. It was so big, the food container wouldn't close. I also got a double portion of mac n chz. I ate some, shared some, ate some more, and still had a nice portion left. Because I don't believe in feeding trash cans, I froze the rest. Fast forward 2 months, I took it out and heated it and that mac was just as cream and moist as the day I bought it!!!!I live in VA, but when I visit Durham I always check their IG page to see if they are selling plates. Kales Kitchen is definitely worth the time and $$$!!!

I was very fortunate to have a southern grandmother with a heart of gold, who cooked the most amazing meals usually all from scratch. Soul food (when done right) is expensive, time consuming, but most importantly a labor of love. Our Kale's Kitchen food didn't taste like business. It was something akin to what you would expect granny to serve Sunday after service. Our orders of Turkey Wing, and Stuffed Chicken were each accompanied with green beans and mac and cheese. I also ordered a side of yams. The Turkey Wing was tender and flavorful. The green beans (from a can, I believe) were cooked in a broth of some kind and well seasoned. Mac and cheese buttery and loaded with a mild cheese(s). The stuffed chicken is a very large breast stuff with a more complex cheese mixture similar to perhaps an artichoke dip. Yams thick not watery and well seasoned. Very, very, very good! Fun fact: I used to really be out here ordering from these Instagram chefs and Kales Kitchen was one of them. I think it was a 10 meal prep for less than $100.00. We had a quality issue and she was quick to respond and resolve and I love to see the growth. With that being said, you will have to be flexible. They are still working through process issues. However, for me, the food justified the inconvenience. Considering all the hype that isn't an easy feat. Soul Food 4.7

If you are thinking about booking this place for catering DON'T!!! My family spent a large amount of money for family size dishes for Thanksgiving and had the most chaotic and unprofessional experience of my life. We booked in October and was told through direct text communication from her that we would get a time to come and pick up our order the day before Thanksgiving. We never received said time slot so I went to the business because at that point because it was well past the cut off time put in the message and I was not getting any communication back when I called and text. I get there and there is a LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE STANDING OUTSIDE IN THE COLD FRANTIC ABOUT THEIR ORDERS AND WE ARE ALL BEING IGNORED BY THE STAFF INSIDE THAT CAN CLEARLY SEE US!!! When the owner finally comes out she has the nastiest attitude and simply tells us that she has nothing to do with the confusion because she just cooks and that either we can continue to wait for our food (at this point it's 8 pm) or forfeit our order. Not one time did she take accountability for all the chaos going on or even apologize especially to the people who drove HOURS to support her business. She couldn't even give us an estimate time of when orders would be finished and distributed. Finally at 10 pm .. yes 10 at night I gave up and just took my items RAW and undercooked because I could no longer wait outside in the cold at 6 months pregnant. She wouldn't even let this elderly woman who was waiting for her order use the restroom!!! Anyway, I got my items home and was severely disappointed!!! I could not in good conscience feed my family the food I was given. I even text and called back because we paid 100$ for gumbo and crab claws and got 4 skinny Walmart frozen legs dropped in a tray of rice and gravy!!! My mom had to recook the greens due to no seasoning, meat, and was under cooked. We cooked the turkey wings because again they were RAW!!! And the gumbo was unsalvageable. I will never be purchasing anything from this business again.

I have been following Kales for a while but never wanted to take the drive to go try the food. Last week (Friday), I saw that she was doing preorders for Sunday & me & my bf decided to order. We spent $85 for 2 plates. He wanted stuffed salmon w Mac & green beans and I was getting steak n shrimp w Mac & baked beans. We knew that pickup would be between 6p-8p Sunday so we patiently waited. Sunday comes, she sends a message stating family emergency & needs to postpone til Tuesday. Tuesday comes, the weather is bad so she sends ANOTHER text saying that the power keeps going out so she needs to postpone AGAIN to Thursday. Wednesday, she makes a post on IG taking walk-ins. Today is Thursday...& my bf & I are awaiting our pickup time...only to get ANOTHER TEXT saying the stove caught fire and she needs to postpone until tomoro. At this point, no ma'am. Run me my $85 back. This is why it's hard to support black owned businesses. Instead of postponing your PREPAID orders, she SHOULD HAVE fulfilled SUNDAYS orders Wednesday so that u don't have people WAITING day after day!! Instead, as a money grab--u open for walk-ins, disregard the money you've already been given & expect to keep postponing people due to various issues. I am HIGHLY disappointed with the level of professionalism & lack of courtesy. It seems that if you wanna try this food, wait for a walk in announcement. Definitely don't preorder.

It was my first time at Kale's Kitchen, and the food didn't disappoint. Nice sized shrimp and fried with good flavor. I never had fried salmon before, but in North Carolina, you will find out we fry anything. The macaroni and cheese are homemade, and the candied yams are on point. All in all the meal is very good and worth the wait outside. For out-of-town folks, the area looks suspect. It's just good people waiting for good food. You will not be disappointed.Check out Kale's Kitchen Instagram page to know when the establishment will be open.

Kales Kitchen was a hit. I traveled 3 hours for 2 trap platters and 2 very berry lemonades. The lemonade was one of the best lemonades I have had. The platters were packed with food. The only thing that I didn’t like was the wait. I got down around 5:00 n got a text saying pick up is at 7 my food wasn’t ready until 8 something. I was one of the last to get my food but it was worth the wait. I will be back for more. I want to taste everything lol.

5 star! SEASONED food! I've been here twice! Pop-up shop so you need to have your social media notifications on to know when they open! Bring your phone or a book if you get there early to wait in line. THE WAIT IS WORTH IT!!! The portions are heavy and full and last 2 to 3 meals.

Love the food, but pack your patience! I preordered and live 40 mins away. Pickup time was between 4:30-6. You receive a text on the day of with the exact time. And there is a 15 min grace period once you receive your pickup time. I arrived in Durham and received a text at 5:15 that my pickup time was not until 7. I show up at 7 and there is a line of people waiting to also pick up their food. My name was finally called at 7:30.The food was still warm when I arrived home and was delicious-salmon, collards and yams. My husband had shrimp, yams and mac & cheese. He said his was delicious as well. Servings are huge! I would order again, but I know that it’s going to be a long wait.
