I would almost call this New York style Chinese food on 9th Street in Durham. I ordered to go, the food traveled well and I like the little takeaway bowl that separates the noodles from the soup. The pork belly soup is where it's at, definitely order it while you're there. I also ordered the double cooked pork, it had one spicy marker next to it on the menu and I agree with that level of spice. ( If you don't like spicy food, note that one spice marker Will get your mouth tingling). Scallion pancakes were light and crispy. And the staff was very friendly.

If you’re in a mood for comfort food give this place a try. You can’t go wrong with steamed chicken with rice, scallion pancakes and braised beef noodles. We’ve eaten here several times and the food was delicious every time. Service was always friendly and fast. Highly recommend!

Hunan chicken like mom used to make! The service is excellent and the vibe in the room is everything you could want it to be. Bonus points to Wheat for playing really appropriate music at a truly appropriate volume at lunch time. The price is right, folks. Easy access for those on wheelchairs.

I lived and studied in China before coming to NC, and I have to say I feel angry at myself for not knowing about this restaurant before. Their mapo tofu and hainan chicken are awesome!

I Live in China. this place is just as good as many of the common small-city restaurants in China. Almost unbelievable how close and good the food is. Will be coming back extremely often until I leave Durham.

Absolutely must try! The decor and atmosphere is very simple, but you come for the food! The spice levels are right on point! Noodles have a bite and cooked just right! Dumplings are great! Salt and pepper ribs are a must try! Everything was spiced right, rich flavors and great portion to price ratio! Gotta stop by if your're in the mood for noodles!

The food was good, service a little slow, and the atmosphere was acceptable. I plan to return to try more items on the menu.

I looooove Wheat!!! This is my favorite spot on 9th St, and I’ve been to all the restaurants. They have great spicy options here — I recommend Crispy Beef with Chilis Noodle (鲜椒牛肉拌面) and Boiled Beef in Hot Chili Oil (水煮牛肉) Also Mango Pomelo Sago drink and Pumpkin Cake!! The fried rice is good too, not too salty. The portions here are HUGE (enough even for my boyfriend who can eat enough for 2-3 people lol). Environment is very clean and relaxing and the service is really good, the people who work here are so nice, friendly, and respectful. The menu often has new items to try and I’ve never been disappointed with anything I’ve had. Oh, and if you get a drink to go, ask if they have the cute little clear to-go cans! :) Even my Hong Kong heritage boyfriend likes it here and he’s very picky. Highly recommend here!! ❤️

I visited on a Sunday night for dinner. The staff was friendly and I was seated quickly.I ordered the cucumber salad and braised beef noodle soup. Food was served promptly and the portions were very generous for the price. The cucumber salad was crisp in texture and had good flavor from the hot oil and seasonings. Beef noodle soup had big chunks of tender beef that could be cut with chopsticks easily and noodles that were cooked to the right texture; however, the broth was just okay and felt a little watered down overall.I would recommend a visit if you're looking for some decent and more traditional Taiwanese food. I'm planning on visiting again to try something else and their desserts next time.

Wheat 麦茶 absolutely deserves a 5-star review! From the moment we walked in, everything about our experience was delightful. The staff was incredibly polite and friendly, making us feel welcomed and valued as customers. Their service truly added a warm touch to our dining experience. The food was great and tasty, leaving us wanting more. We started with the Chicken Lo Mein, which was a delicious blend of perfectly cooked noodles, succulent chicken pieces, and just the right mix of vegetables, all tossed in a savory sauce that was full of flavor without being overpowering.Next up was the Braised Beef Noodle Soup, a comforting bowl of rich, aromatic broth that had depth and warmth. The beef was tender and fell apart at the slightest touch, melding beautifully with the noodles and broth to create a symphony of flavors in each spoonful. The Peking Beef Burrito was a delightful surprise, combining traditional flavors in an innovative way. The beef was seasoned and cooked to perfection, wrapped in a soft, warm tortilla with a hint of crispiness. It was an exciting twist on classic Peking beef, and we savored every bite. The only downside was the limited selection of desserts available during our visit. We would have loved to try more sweet treats to end our meal on a high note. But, usually, they have a lot of desserts. Our overall experience at Wheat Restaurantwas exceptional. The inviting atmosphere, combined with the delectable food and outstanding service, made our visit memorable. We highly recommend Wheat 麦茶 to anyone looking for great food in a friendly setting. It's a place we'll definitely be returning to!
