I was in town for a meeting and decided to try Ray's. The ambiance is rustic and appropriate for a BBQ/Country restaurant. I had the brisket and the flavor was decent but it was dry and tough. Not sure when they smoked it, but I don't think it was fresh. The black eyed peas were excellent, fried squash was heavy and the BBQ slaw was not good. The staff was friendly, I just wish the food was better.

Solid, no frills, little local bbq joint. Ask about the daily sides as there were a bunch not listed in the menu. BBQ pork was good chopped and pulled and smoky. Smoked and fried chicken wings were great. Seems like a local lunch place for the judicial system workers.Vegetarian options: Not many
If I'm wanting good BBQ in Gastonia, I go to Ray's. The pulled pork BBQ is tender, juicy, and nicely cleaned of fat and gristle. Very tasty! They serve a good selection of veggies as sides and have the great crushed ice I love! It's typically packed at lunch time, so come before or after to get a seat. Service is good and food comes out quickly and is hot. It has a casual, low light, bar atmosphere.

Google brisket in the area and this place popped up. While I didn't get the brisket because I was eye hustling other customers plates I got a carolina burger. Every bit of food we ordered was outstanding. Portions were more than enough so we had food to enjoy for later. My friend actually did get a brisket sandwich which was super tasty and did not disappoint. Loved the food. Loved the service and loved the atmosphere. Was also surprised by the prices. Very practical. Definitely recommend. Loved it.

Today, we went on the hunt for some great hot dogs . While it is something simple, it can easily be messed up with a mushy hot dog or bun. Saw there were recommendations on Ray's and decided to head there. Our waitress was Amber, and Madison was as well there too to assist. I loved a few things in this quaint place. 1. The bacon wrapped hot dog with the homemade BBQ coleslaw was on point. They offer 3 slaws (Regular, BBQ, and red slaw) and goodness . The BBQ was my favorite . 2. We saw regulars coming and talking to the servers and people there like family. When you get regulars at a place, it speaks volumes for service and food. 3. They serve a few options of beers, including a local beer from Charlotte . 4. Service was impecable with smiles and all the questions I had being answered. I even asked to try the slaws to decide if I wanted a specific one and was given samples. So yummy Learning that they have been in business over 62 years is super cool. We also noticed that their menu has something you don't see often. That's local businesses advertising in them. I think, in my opinion, it gives quaint places like this a certain je ne sais quoi. So, while yes, this is a review on hot dogs it's also showing an honest review on a place where you can feel at home and enjoy a nice meal.

The fried pickles were a great size and flavor. The serving sizes on the dinner plates was nice. There was an error with our order and they fixed it with a bigger portion than we originally expected.
