We were forced to open a tab at the register when we check in, and had to order drinks on the spot without menus, instead of being allowed to take time looking at menus at the bar while we waited for a table. We then sat at our table, the QR code prompted us to order and pay for our food. We were really confused about why we have to order food on our phones but get up and order more beer on our first open tab at the register. There has to be a better way.

Second best pizza in surf city. Peaks on topsail is by far the best pizza. Oval & Ale overall is a great restaurant. Will always come back. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Great food and great service. Very nice atmosphere. The size is perfect for individuals. Enough to share a piece and get a piece of everyone in your party if you agree to share with your friends. Fresh ingredients unique to the restaurant. Loved it.

I hate giving bad reviews but this is the review I was looking for that will hopefully help someone else.If you are allergic to gluten DO NOT eat here regardless of what they might tell you. We ate here right before Christmas after hearing they had GF pizza. I was surprised not to see GF on their menu so I proceeded to ask and got an answer similar to "Our flour is imported from Italy, many people with celiacs or gluten sensitivities have eaten here without any issues because they don't process their flour like we do here in the U.S." I decided to take the risk and got violently ill within hours after leaving. It's probably a good idea if they stay away from this blanket statement unless they are truly using GF flour.3 stars as I know it was my decision to take the risk but hopefully this brings attention to them and anyone who may be swayed by this statement.

Delicious inventive, cross between pizza and flatbread. Local beers on tap. Clean. Warm and efficient staff. Very welcoming.

Really enjoyed our dinner. Food was delicious and came out quick. A little odd how they do service online at the table and water, napkins, and boxes are all self service. It's not counter service but it's also not full waiter/waitress service either. But overall, we really enjoyed our experience and are glad to have a solid place to go eat right here in town!
We moved in Hampstead over the summer but had not had a chance to eat at Oval & Ale. Once our son started basketball season we wanted to eat there after a game so that is what we did. We thoroughly enjoyed two vegan pizzas as you can see from photos. It is easy enough to look at the menu on your phone then order right from your phone. We did not wait long and they had a large crowd outside. Our son wanted AC so we were inside. This is definitely a cute, fun and tasty spot to go to when in Hampstead.Vegetarian options: Vegan cheese, vegan meat

The Pinsa is amazing. Great place to hang outside on with family or friends. Love entertainment in addition to lawn games. Nice to have an outside bar. A MUST.

Simple menu with great food. The service is excellent and operates by ordering on your phone, to which they then deliver. This is helpful in that it allows you to control when you get what you want. The restaurant itself is quite roomy and they have outdoor seating and entertainment as well. My favorite menu item is the bruschetta! We enjoy this quaint hot spot and I love their sense of community.
