Great hospitality

Mr. Feel Guhd Choppa (7x13)

This is now “Mitties Kitchen” and it is connected to a Church “God’s House of Deliverance Praise & Worship” The owner is Linda Gary and the cook is Lakeisha Echols. They use through away me from FoodLion that they get through a donation program that’s supposed to be give to those in need of help. They also use meat from Piggly Wiggly’s pick five which that meet is close to or is already spoiled.

Stopped in here today for some food after finding this place online. The curry chicken was spoiled, mac n cheese was not baked but out of the box Kraft. This was so disappointing and the salt in this whole meal... ridiculous..don't serve this to anybody else.

My mom and I wanted some home cooked food like we have in Mississippi, where I'm originally from. I normally don't eat out, but my mom lives with me now and wanted to try places out. Sadly Hilda retired, that was good food. We decided to try this place. The dining area is big, but nothing special to look at. The cashier and server was nice, but the food was not good. The oxtails were okay. The plantains were good. The macaroni was disgusting. The worst I've ever tasted, made me sick on stomach. The J*** chicken was not good. I've made homemade j*** chicken better than what we had. The water had a weird taste and there was a bug in my food. I didn't get angry, like most people would, like maybe I should have. For nearly $30, this was not worth it. My mother still talks about this place and how she would never eat it again. She said "she's not up on this" in other words, "This is not good food." There were specific items we would like to have had, but were not serving that day, which were disappointing. Not worth it, for the money you'll spend, there's better places.

This is place is great, they have authentic Jamaican curry chicken that's addictive and their baked chicken is so tender and juicy it's hard to resist. The only con is that the hours aren't longer but their food is one of the best in town!!

This is a hidden gem for anybody who loves soul-food! I ordered Liver & onions and my husband ordered BBQ sliders. Everything were fantastic! I definitely will come back.

The lemon cake is the bomb, Hilda's has always been number one when it comes to southern cooking in the jacksonville area! So if you looking for home cooked food at a great place, take your self to Hilda's you will not be disappointed

Our party ordered mac n cheese, yams, green beans and cornbread. Everything was good except the mac n cheese which was pretty terrible. Maybe they had an off day. I'll probably give it one more try as I was raised on soul food and love good mac n cheese.

Re-located to 331 Western Blvd., just north of Onslow Mem. Hospital and west across W. Blvd. from Jax. Mall. I first learned of Hilda's when they were in Northwoods Shopping Ctr. A long-time patron who stopped in and was awaiting seating when I departed this week stated the "first" location was on Bell Fork Rd. This new location serves the busy Brynn Marr folk, as well as those visiting Jacksonville Mall & Onslow Mem. Hospital. The menu is "Southern-style home cooking." There are 2-3 daily lunch specials in addition to the regular menu items. On our visit, chicken & pastry was offered and two plates arrived, joining my "smothered" fried (also available baked) chicken. One is offered biscuits, cornbread or hush puppies to accompany your plate. Side veggies include potato salad, lima beans, mac & cheese, collards, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and fried okra (I did advise you it was Southern/Soul Food, yes?). Despite being on the late side of lunch rush, and only one server to help with take-out and table service, our lunch experience was similar to always--fairly priced meals with tasty, varied side dishes and all the Southern-style baked carbs your cardio system shouldn't think about! And, yes, you can ask for refills of your tea and soft drinks!
